Abstract: A high pressure fuel pump 10 is described. The high pressure fuel pump 10 comprises a housing 12, and a first worm gear 14 positioned proximate to the housing 12. A second worm gear 16 is positioned partially within the housing 12 and mates against 10 the first worm gear 14. A first dowel pin 18 is positioned proximate to a first end of the second worm gear 16. A second dowel pin 20 is positioned proximate to an opposite second end of the second worm gear 16. A fuel injector 22 is positioned within a bore 24 defined in the housing 12. An end of the fuel injector 22 is positioned against the second worm gear 16 such that the first dowel pin 18 is positioned within 15 a first groove 26, and the second dowel pin 20 is positioned within a second groove 28 defined in the fuel injector 22.

Specification

Claims:1. A high pressure fuel pump (10), said high pressure fuel pump (10) comprising:
10 a housing (12); characterized in that
a first worm gear (14) positioned proximate to said housing (12);
a second worm gear (16) positioned partially within said housing (12), said
second worm gear (16) adapted to mate against said first worm gear (14) such
that a rotation of said first worm gear (14) causes a rotation of said second
15 worm gear (16) in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation of said first
worm gear (14);
a first dowel pin (18) positioned proximate to a first end of said second worm
gear (16) such that a rotation of said second worm gear (16) causes a rotation
of said first dowel pin (18) along a direction of rotation of said second worm
20 gear (16);
a second dowel pin (20) positioned proximate to an opposite second end of said
second worm gear (16) such that a rotation of said second worm gear (16)
causes a rotation of said second dowel pin (20) along the direction of rotation
of said second worm gear (16);
25 a fuel injector (22) positioned within a bore (24) defined in said housing (12),
an end of said fuel injector (22) positioned against an upper surface of said
second worm gear (16) such that said first dowel pin (18) is positioned within
a first groove (26), and said second dowel pin (20) is positioned within a
second groove (28) defined in said fuel injector (22).
2.The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 1 wherein said fuel
injector (22) comprises a fuel injector body (30) and a first end of a sealing
washer (32) that is secured to said fuel injector body (30) to 5 facilitate sealing
said fuel injector body (30).
3. The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 2 wherein said fuel
injector (22) comprises a threaded bush (34) that is secured to an opposite
10 second end of said sealing washer (32), such that said sealing washer (32) is
compressed between said fuel injector body (30) and said threaded bush (34).
4. The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 3 wherein said
threaded bush (34) comprises a plurality of external screw threads that are
15 defined around an outer circumference of said threaded bush (34), the external
screw threads that are defined around the outer circumference of said threaded
bush (34) adapted to mesh against a plurality of internal screw threads that are
defined within said housing (12) to facilitate securing said threaded bush (34)
to said housing (12).
5. The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 4, wherein a
rotation of said first worm gear (14) via external means facilitates causing a
rotation of said second worm gear (16) in a direction opposite to the direction
of rotation of said first worm gear (14).
6. The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 5, wherein the
rotation of said second worm gear (16) causes a rotation of said first dowel pin
(18) and said second dowel pin (20) in the same direction of rotation of said
second worm gear (16).
7. The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 6, wherein a
rotation of said second worm gear (16) causes the second dowel pin (20) to compress against said threaded bush (34) via the second groove 5 (28) defined
in said fuel injector (22), thereby causing a rotation of said fuel injector (22) in
the same direction of rotation of said second worm gear (16).
8. The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 7, wherein the
10 rotation of said fuel injector (22) in the same direction of rotation of said
second worm gear (16) causes the external screw threads that are defined
around the outer circumference of said threaded bush (34) to rotate against the
plurality of internal screw threads that are defined within said housing (12) to
facilitate decoupling the external screw threads that are defined around the
15 outer circumference of said threaded bush (34) from the internal screw threads
that are defined within said housing (12), and thereby facilitating withdrawal
of the fuel injector (22) from within the bore (24) defined in said housing (12).
9. The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 9 wherein the first
20 worm gear (14) is rotated by a predetermined displacement by a user to
facilitate displacing said fuel injector (22) that is in contact with the upper
surface of said second worm gear (16) to a required predetermined
displacement above the upper surface of said second worm gear (16). , Description:A high pressure fuel pump 10 is described. The high pressure fuel pump 10 comprises
a housing 12, and a first worm gear 14 positioned proximate to the housing 12. A
second worm gear 16 is positioned partially within the housing 12 and mates against
10 the first worm gear 14. A first dowel pin 18 is positioned proximate to a first end of
the second worm gear 16. A second dowel pin 20 is positioned proximate to an
opposite second end of the second worm gear 16. A fuel injector 22 is positioned
within a bore 24 defined in the housing 12. An end of the fuel injector 22 is positioned
against the second worm gear 16 such that the first dowel pin 18 is positioned within
15 a first groove 26, and the second dowel pin 20 is positioned within a second groove 28
defined in the fuel injector 22.
