It must also be noted that as used herein and in the appended claims, the singular forms "a," "an," and "the" include plural references unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. Although an apparatus, similar or equivalent to those described herein can be used in the practice or testing of embodiments of the present disclosure, is now described. The disclosed embodiments for the apparatus is merely example of the disclosure, which may be embodied in various forms.

[0013] Various modifications to the embodiment will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art and the generic principles herein may be applied to other embodiments for the apparatus. However, one of ordinary skill in the art will readily recognize that the present disclosure for the device is not intended to be limited to the embodiments described, but is to be accorded the widest scope consistent with the principles and features described herein.

[0014] In one embodiment, an apparatus for drilling and spot facing on a gas turbine is described. The apparatus comprises a machine, a drill bit, and a grinder wheel. Further, the drill bit is coupled to the machine. During operation, the drill bit may drill a hole on a surface of the gas turbine. Furthermore, the grinder wheel is coupled to the machine after removing the drill bit. In addition, further during operation the grinder wheel may spot face the surface of the gas turbine.
[0015] Now, referring to Figures 1-3, Figure 1 illustrates an apparatus 100 and a grinder wheel 102. Figure 2 illustrates a view 200 of a drill bit 202. Figure 3 illustrates an apparatus 100 in drilling condition 300 on a gas turbine.
[0016] In one embodiment, initially, a lubricant oil system is made ready, post to that, foundation seats are levelled. Further, a gas turbine may be lowered or installed or mounted on the foundation seats. A lifting beam and a plurality of lifting slings may lower the gas turbine. Further, the gas turbine is aligned and the boltholes are marked. Further the apparatus 100 may be used for drilling and spot facing on the gas turbine.

[0017] The apparatus 100 may be a portable device or a handheld device. The apparatus comprises a machine 102, a drill bit 202, and a grinder wheel 104. The drill bit 202 may be coupled to the machine 102. The drill bit 202 may be customized drill bits. The drill bits may be modified to suit or to perform the individual task efficiently. The drill bits may be one of a twist drill, a counter bore, countersink, flat bottom boring, and the like. In one implementation, the machine 102 coupled to the drill bit 202 may drill a hole on a surface of the gas turbine. The surface may comprise a marked hole on the gas turbine.

[0018] The machine 102 may be powered by an electric supply like direct current DC power supply, an alternating current AC power supply, battery and the like. The machine 102 may operate on a motor installed inside, or the machine 102 may operate on the compressed air or may be named as a pneumatic drilling machine.

[0019] The machine 102 may comprise reduction gears in order to adjust the speed of the motor. In one aspect, the machine may comprise a jig or a fixture in order to align the drill bit 202 with the marking of the hole on the gas turbine, thus ease of implementing the drilling operation without any misalignment while operating. In another aspect, a nut and a bolt 204 may be installed into the drilled hole for fixing the gas turbine. The nut may be a check nut. The lock nut may be inserted into the drilled hole by the machine 102. An operator (as shown in figure 3) may implement the drilling operation, when the drill bit 202 is coupled to the machine 102.

[0020] In one another aspect, a bush may inserted into the hole. In yet another aspect, a feed screw may be a drill bit 202 in order to produce threading in the interior parts of the drilled hole.

[0021] In another implementation, for example, the coupled drill bit 202 is removed from the machine 102, and a grinder wheel 104 may be coupled to the machine 102. During operation, the machine 102 coupled with the grinder wheel 104 may be operated to spot face the surface of the gas turbine. Spot facing is the operation of facing the area around the drilled bolt hole and to fit the bolt’s head. Further, to fix the bolt in a predefined position, the machine 102 may insert the lock nut.

[0022] In yet another implementation, the gas turbine comprising an intake port, an exhaust port, a shaft, a thrust block, a Plummer block, and a propeller may be installed into a marine vessel. A gearbox may be coupled to the thrust block. Further, the thrust block may be coupled to the Plummer block.
