Specification

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention generally relates to manufacturing wind boxes for high pressure boilers used in furnace portion. More particularly the present invention further relates to an apparatus for inspection of tilting mechanism of nozzles assembled in wind boxes used in high pressure boilers for fuel firing in power generation.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The wind box is about 2.5meters of width, 3meters of height and 8meters of length. These wind boxes are aligned in pairs of top and bottom wind box at each corners with identical at diagonal corners. These wind box nozzles are placed at the four corners which due to tilting test operation fires tangentially to create an imaginary fire ball. This tilting test operation plays a major role in power generation.
In power plants, the windboxes are used for fuel firing inside the furnace. The coal, Air and Oil nozzles are assembled in each of compartments of windbox modules, which supplies pulverized coal, Oil along with the primary air. The coal nozzle is a casting component provided along with Oil and Air nozzle tip of stainless steel material at one of its ends, which oscillates in one axis at an angle of 30° along its pivot.

The purpose of tilting mechanism is to control main steam and reheat outlet temperature in boiler to increase the life of the tube materials and to increase the efficiency of the boiler
These nozzle tips assembly are to be periodically inspected in respect of tilting with the tip support (fig- 1). The existing tip support plate (08) needs to be welded in position with a wire rope (06) and counter weights (not shown) which in turn is connected to a Semi gantry crane apparatus. It is noticed that the nozzle tip and the tip supports generally remain misaligned resulting in cracking of welded tip support area to during tilting test inspection and during dismantling of the nozzle tip also.
Hammering, Grinding and again carrying out rework operations poses serious problem for final inspection. The dimensions of the coal nozzle are generally 787 X 685 X 584 mm and the weight of the nozzle under study is about 856 kgs. Moreover, this inspection method was found as highly unsafe to the workmen as the tip supports welded to nozzle detach by weld cracking and falls from wind box height. It takes about 3 shifts for grinding, dismantling and rework operations so as to carryout final inspection.
Hence there is a need to find out a safe and simplified methodology for clamping tip support to nozzles with reduction in man power and time, such that a safe tilting inspection of the nozzle tips assembly can be carried out.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
It is therefore an object of the invention to propose an apparatus for clamping tip support plate to nozzles in compartments of wind boxes for fuel firing in power plants to carry-out inspection of nozzle-tilting mechanism.
Another object of the invention is to propose an apparatus for fastener clamping tip support plate easy to handle and dismantle for positioning nozzles inside the compartments of high pressure wind boxes to carryout tilting inspection which is used for fuel firing in power plants, which is operationally safer and reduces cycle time.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Accordingly, there is provided an apparatus for clamping nozzle tip in position inside compartments of high pressure wind boxes for carrying-out tilting test which generates excess power by fuel firing in power plants, the device comprises of a tip support plate (01) the plurality of stopper plate (02) being perpendicular welded to each other at the slot provided at both ends of plate (01) adjacent to the slot plurality of hexagonal nuts (03) are welded perpendicular to plate (01) in zig zag position at both sides of plate (01) plurality. A plurality of fasteners (04) provided on each of said plurality of plate (01) to clamp the nozzle tip with the clamping tip support apparatus. The clamping tip support apparatus is positioned on the nozzle tips (05) and movement of the nozzle (05) arrested on all sides by locking the fasteners (04). Now the tip support plates (01) are interconnected with wire ropes (06) and

pulleys (07).Using counter weight (not shown) the tilting mechanism is checked easily without much effort.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Figure 1 - shows the tip support plates connected in series with wire ropes and pulleys for all the nozzles of the wind box to check the tilting mechanism.
Figure 2 - shows the existing tip support plate without slots and holes in the bottom.
Figure 3 - shows the developed tip support plate.
Figure 4 - shows the tip support plate with stopper plate, fasteners nut, bolt in zig zag position.
Figure 5 - shows the typical isometric view of one nozzle with all the components in assembled condition.
DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Referring to Figure 4,
The modified tip support plate (01) is made with slots at the middle. The stopper plate (02) is welded with tip support plate (01) at the one end of the slot as shown in the figure 4.The purpose of the stopper plate(02) is used to arrest the to and fro motion of the tip support plate (01) while tilting inspection is carried out.

Kl and K2 are two hexagonal nuts welded on the same side of the tip support plate (01) diagonally to each other in one plane. Similarly, K3 and K4 are other two hexagonal nuts welded on the other side and diagonally to each other of the tip support plate (01) in one plane. The purpose of this zigzag arrangement is to avoid number of nuts welded with tip support plate (01) and for better clamping of the tip support plate (01) with partition plate (09) of Figure 5. Four number hexagonal bolts (04) are used for tightening purpose.
Referring to Figure 5,
The tip support plate (01) welded with nuts (03) (Kl to K4) and assembled with bolt (04) and welded with stopper plate (02) and is positioned at the partition plate (09) of the nozzle assembly (05).
Identical fasteners (03) in zigzag at opposite locations are provided on either side of the tip support plate (01) and welded together as shown in Figure 5. The welded nuts (03) are kept parallel to each other, which are subsequently positioned into partition plate (09) of the nozzle assembly (05). The stopper plate (02) acts as stopper in position welded perpendicular to plate (01).The hexagonal nuts (03) are provided with hexagonal bolts (04) help to arrest the horizontal movement of nozzle tip during positioning and acts as a clamping apparatus as well. The fasteners (03) and (04) are tightened to the partition plate (09) after fixing the clamping apparatus. After using the developed apparatus, the cycle time for clamping tip support alignment positioning and dismantling from nozzle tips inside the wind box compartment has been completed in one shift by the elimination of welding the tip support plate (08) with partition plate (09) of nozzle assembly (05). The figure 5 shows only the partial insertion of the new tip support plate (01) on the partion plate (09) for understanding

purpose but to do the inspection this tip support plate (01) will be moved till the stopper plate (02) touched the partition plate (09) so that the stopper plate (02) will be used to arrest the movement of the nozzles in the other directions opposite to tilting direction. Once the inspection is completed at shop floor the items Nos. 01,02 & 03 are dismantled from the partition plate (9) along with wire ropes (06) and pulleys (07) by loosening the hexagonal bolts(04) thereby the time is substantially around 75% saved comparing to the earlier method of inspection.
