Specification

The present disclosure, in general, relates to a weatherstrip that is attached to a peripheral portion of a door opening of a sash door type automobile and, more particularly, relates to an assembly required for efficiently holding a beltline weatherstrip with a window sash channel of an automobile door in a vehicle.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Nowadays, most of motor vehicles are equipped with a sealing device broadly referred to as a weatherstrip that is disposed about a periphery of a window and provides an air and water tight seal between a door and the window.
[0003] A portion of the weatherstrip along a horizontal top and vertical sides of a window opening are referred to as a glass run weatherstrip whereas a portion of the weatherstrip disposed between the door and a lower extremity of the window opening is typically referred to as a beltline weatherstrip. The beltline weatherstrip hides an interface between the window and the door.
[0004] In one approach as shown in FIG. 1A, a beltline weatherstrip 102 is mounted over a base line of a window opening 104 in such a way that the beltline weatherstrip outer consists of multiple locks (not shown) that help in fastening the beltline weatherstrip 102 with a lancing or reverse flange formed at several locations along the length of an outer door panel 106. In addition to fitting the beltline weatherstrip 102 with lancing on the outer panel 106, the beltline weatherstrip outer 102 is not extended continuously

from A to B pillar areas. This creates a possibility of theft as the weather-strip outer can be removed easily and a door latch can be accessed manually during locked condition.
[0005] In another approach shown in FIG. 1B, the beltline weatherstrip 102 is extended from A to B-pillar areas of the vehicle. In such approach, a snap 102-S can be provided for establishing a positive locking of the beltline weatherstrip 102 over the base line of a window opening 104. Although a positive locking is facilitated, the snap 102-S can be easily removed by pulling from outside the vehicle.
[0006] In another arrangement, a positive mounting can be provided at 102-S between the beltline weatherstrip 102 and the outer panel 106, further this positive mounting at 102-S is provided when the beltline weatherstrip 102 extends toward rear of the door panel i.e. beyond the window pane. However, once the beltline weatherstrip outer is removed, an outsider can get access to the door latch and open the vehicle door. Thus, there is a possibility of vehicle theft. Therefore, there is need of an assembly having advanced locking system that helps in firmly mounting the beltline weatherstrip over the window.
[0007] In addition, the attachment of the beltline weatherstrip over the window can also result in vehicle streamlining that further helps in reducing both drag and wind noise. To achieve these goals, there is need of an improved locking structure that can hold the beltline weatherstrip over the periphery of the window so as to eliminate gaps between the beltline weatherstrip and the window.
[0008] Hence, there is requirement of an improved structure that can firmly mount the beltline weatherstrip over the window, and that can eliminate the gap between the beltline weatherstrip and the window.

204-A is of rectangular shaped structure. The horizontal upper end 204-U is also of rectangular shaped structure. In addition, the hook shaped bracket 204 is either of an inverted L-shape or an inverted J-shape.
[0046] The horizontal upper end 204-U of the hook shaped bracket 204 is fitted inside the slot 202-S formed in the lower end 202-L of the hook shaped link to form a slot type straight link locking (L-link) that helps infirmly holding the beltline weatherstrip over the window.
[0047] In addition, FIG. 2 depicts the different orientation of the one section of the assembly 200 formed at one side of the beltline weatherstrip that helps infirmly holding the beltline weatherstrip over the window.
[0048] FIG. 3 illustrates a line diagram of the assembly 200 that is depicted in the FIG. 2. It illustrates the line diagram of the assembly 200 formed in between the horizontal upper end 204-U of the hook shaped bracket 204 fitted inside the slot 202-S formed in the lower end 202-L of the hook shaped link to form a slot type straight link locking (L-link) that helps in firmly holding the beltline weatherstrip over the window.
[0049] FIG. 4 also depicts the enlarged view of the assembly 200 as well as the line diagram formed at both the side of the beltline weatherstrip 102 that helps in firmly holding the beltline weatherstrip 102 over the window 104 comprising the slot type J-link locking between the hook shaped link and the hook shaped bracket. The assembly mentioned in FIG. 4 is an embodiment of the assembly depicted in FIG. 2. Here the structure of the hook shaped bracket 204 comprises a vertical arm (204-A), a horizontal upper end (204-U) and a bend (204-B) in the inward direction while viewing from the front. This hook shaped bracket is fitted inside the slot 202-S formed at the lower end 202-L of the hook shaped link 202 to form the slot type J-link locking.

[0050] It also depicts the line diagram of the assembly 200 as mentioned in the FIG. 3 between the hook shaped link 202 and the hook shaped bracket 204 along the section C-C that helps in firm mounting of beltline weatherstrip 102 over the window 104.
[0051] It also depicts the line diagram of the assembly 200 as mentioned in the FIG. 4 between the hook shaped link 202 and the hook shaped bracket 204 along the section D-D that helps in firm mounting of beltline weatherstrip 102 over the window 104.
[0052] Thus, after effectively mounting the beltline weatherstrip over the window 104 through the assembly 200 in which the hook shaped bracket 204 is fitted inside the hook shaped link 202 as claimed in the present disclosure, various technical problems of the state of the art are resolved.
