The following specification particularly describes the nature of the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.

2
Background of the Invention
1. Field of the Invention
The present invention relates broadly to an ATM environment monitoring and management system, and more particularly, to an e-monitored central monitoring system integrating all components of ATM system.
i
2. Description of Prior Art
All the ATM centers/sites have number of components/equipments working in tandem to make it full functional. Conventional major equipments/components present are ATM, VSAT IDU or leased line router, air-conditioner, surveillance system, UPS with battery, magnetic -door locks, smoke detector/fire alarm, raw power etc.
All of these equipments are supplied by different vendors and are maintained separately. The components and its functions are critical to entire ATM center and service-quality imparted by the banks. Each of these equipments is typically supplied by different vendors and has no interoperability to its monitoring and management.
The ATM machine can be centrally monitored. But the other components have no such facility as to remote management. Even, if some of the equipments could have remote management and access capability, the same is not integrated at the central monitoring system.
Besides monitoring the ATM one needs to physically attend to rectify various faults. Further a typical problem is to switch on and off the air-conditioning unit in the ATM site in a predetermined fashion sequence etc as and when required
i A typical problem faced by various banks, particularly in Indian scenario,
forces to integrate all components of ATM svstem through e-monitored central

monitoring system. As for an example, if the ATM is reported to be failed or not working, the ATM vendor says that machine is working fine and the link that connects the ATM to central server etc had failed. The link VSAT or leased line vendor says that link is fine but the power has failed. The UPS vendor in turn blames batteries for not having proper charges due to ground leakage. This procedure continues, and customers are deprived from the benefits of the ATM services. Therefore, a central monitoring of the equipments seamlessly irrespective of the make/model is required to over come the problem stated above as well as to locate the fault arising out due to nonfunctioning / malfunctioning of various peripheral components in an ATM site, and also switch on and off as and when required. Further the status of each and very components to be made available at any given point of time through existing network connectivity or through alternate network.
Known relevant prior art for the ATM environment monitoring and
i
management system include WO Application No. 2004029888 dated 09/24/2003 of Electronic Data Systems Corporation; US Pat. Application No. 20020038289 dated 02/22/2001 and US Pat. Application No. 20040215564 dated 05/20/2004 of Lawlor et at, US Pat. No. 5,841,118 dated 11/24/1998 and ZA Pat. No. 9,704,970 dated 1997-12-30 to East etal.
WO Application No. 2004029888 teaches a system and a method for providing information and services to and from an automated teller machine. As per their invention, an automated teller machine (ATM) system includes a central office, an ATM coupled to the central office, and a remote data provider coupled to the central office. The ATM performs bank transactions in response to user interaction. The remote data provider is operable to provide enhanced non-bank transaction content to the ATM through the central office.
US Pat. Application No. 20020038289 and US Pat. Application No. 20040215564 discloses a method and system for remote delivery of retail banking services. In this invention contact is established between the terminals and a central computer operated by a service provider, preferably over a dial-up telephone line and a packet data network. The terminal

4
interface is extremely user-friendly and incorporates some features of standard ATM user interfaces so as to reduce new user anxiety.
US Pat. No. 5,841,118 narrates a remote control operating device for use with an electronic banking machine. Their remote control banking system comprises an automatic teller machine (ATM) and a remote control operating device. The device includes a signal generator for generating radio frequency signals from the confidential and preset codes, and transmitters and for transmitting the signals to the signal receiver. The device includes an electromagnetic coil, which is energised to provide power for the device when in proximity with the electro-magnetic coil of the ATM.
Method to obtain customer specific data for public access electronic commerce services has been elucidated in US Pat. No. 6,606,605 dated 08/12/2003 to Kolls. A remote connection to network, as described in this patent, includes Internet type connections, telecommunication (telephone, ISDN, ADSL), VSAT satellite, and other wire and wireless transmission.
It is found from an extensive study of both relevant and related prior arts that none of the prior literatures / conventional ATM devices locates the fault arising out due to nonfunctioning / malfunctioning of ATM. Even conventional systems doesn't have components to support Management Information System (MIS) about functioning level and service level of the said ATM system.
Thus, it would be desirable to devise an ATM environment monitoring and management system that obviates the existing problems of the prior arts.
