, Description:Field of Invention:
Present invention relates to a modem device for modulation and demodulation, while connecting to an internet service provider. More particularly, the invention relates to a modem device, which restricts unauthorized users from connecting a specified network.

Background of Invention:
US 5018190 discloses a modem detector that enables detection of whether a modem is coupled to a phone line. When one is detected, various responses can occur, including: hanging up on the modem; checking if the modem linkage is allowable and, if it is not, then hanging up on the modem; and/or logging in the occurrence of an unauthorized modem access. To provide protection against unauthorized modem access, a digital embodiment can be used at the T1 phone line or an analog embodiment can be used after digital telephone data is converted into analog signals.
US 7231045 A modem and secure communications method for the modem is disclosed in which the modem is capable of storing identifying indicia unique to the modem. The identifying indicia may include graphics data such as an image of a credit card, a signature, and/or an account holder to assist in user authentication. Software stored in the modem enables transmission of the identifying indicia to a communication line.
Thus, there arises a need to develop a modem device which allows operation of modem through an administrator, who can control the users and also can generate reports of usage of od data by the users.
Especially, in a work place various users are using a same modem; the administrator has no option to detect the bytes of data being used by each Individual employee. Also, there is no option to detect whether an unauthorized user has been logged in to use the modem.
Also, there exists no way to store the data packets when the modem is on and use it later when there is no power supply. So, modem can be used in a more secured and authenticated manner.

Brief Description of drawings:

The above-mentioned features and other advantages of this present disclosure, and the manner of attaining them, will become more apparent and the present disclosure will be better understood by reference to the following description of embodiments of the present disclosure taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Figure 1 shows a perspective diagram of the modem.
Figure 2 shows the key component of the modem, according to an aspect of the invention.

Detailed description of Invention:
Reference will now be made in detail to the exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure. Before describing the detailed embodiments that are in accordance with the present disclosure, it should be observed that the embodiment reside primarily in combinations arrangement of the system according to an embodiment herein and as exemplified in FIG. 1 to FIG. 2.

Any embodiment described herein is not necessarily to be construed as preferred or advantageous over another embodiment. All of the embodiment described in this detailed description are illustrative, and provided to enable persons skilled in the art to make or use the disclosure and not to limit the scope of the disclosure, which is defined by the claims.

It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications and variations can be made to the present embodiment without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Thus, it is intended that the present embodiment and disclosure cover the modifications and variations of this invention provided they come within the scope of the appended claims and their equivalents.

In the following description, for the purpose of explanation, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the arrangement of the system according to an embodiment herein. It will be apparent, however, to one skilled in the art, that the present embodiment can be practiced without these specific details. In other instances, structures are shown in block diagram form only in order to avoid obscuring the present invention.

As mentioned, there is a need for a device that is more secure and allows only authorized users to login and share its data. Thus, the embodiment herein addresses this by providing an authenticated modem device 100 as shown in Figure 1. The device 100 here has a display 1 which is touch screen will allow the admin of the device to monitor its authorized users. The device 100 includes a switch 6 that is used to switch on the device 100. Also, there is an antenna 2, which is used to capture signals.

In a preferred embodiment, the device 100 is square, rectangular or oval in shape and has four ports 5a, 5b and 5c and the device works with the help of power supply. The device also has place for rechargeable battery that can be used when there is no power supply. The data cables can be plugged into the ports 5a, 5b and 5c. If there is any unauthorized access to the device, it will raise an alarm automatically. The device 100 includes a reset button 3 that allows the admin to change the access rights.

The device has an option to enter the Unique Identification (UID) or MAC (Media Access Control) addresses and the registered users can be tracked. Also, the admin at any point of time can view the amount of data used by each user by clicking on the specified users UID.

Figure 2 shows a block diagram showing major components of the modem. The touch screen 1 is to show generated reports. A modulator 200 transforms digital information (1's an 0's) into analog (perceived as sound) signals, capable of being transmitted over telephone lines. A demodulator 202 transforms analog signals, previously modulated, back into digital information. Thus, the modem modulates and demodulates via a tuner 201 for correct processing of signals. Choice of users are detected by a preprogrammed chip 205, which is preprogrammed to choose MAC addresses as shown in step 204 of the devices to be connected. Alternatively, a Unique Identification number can be provided by the administrator to a new device (new user) to confirm the identity of the new user.
The preprogrammed chip 205 interacts with a router processor 203 to give the output signal.

A storage device is connected to the modem device 100 to store data usage by each user. The preprogrammed chip 205 has algorithms programmed so as to retrieve data from the storage device to generate reports on usage which can be sent to display screen of modem 1, mobile phone of administrator or screen of a remote.

According to an aspect of the invention, the activities of admin includes login to the system which means modem. The admin logs in, registers with his details, verify registered users. The admin will allow access to users only after verifying the details of user. The alarm is also built-in to the device and there is no need of an external application or a wizard setup which in turn requires the laptop to perform these functionalities.
