Abstract: The present invention relates to an automatic water and mud scrapping device and a method of scrapping. The device comprises of a drive shaft assembly (1) resting on two plummer blocks (6). The plummer blocks are fitted on plummer block brackets (5). The drive shaft is connected with non-drive shafts (2) by means of links. The actuator (4) actuates all the shafts working together for lifting the belt by means of a roller arrangement when the belt gets flattened. A scraper (3) fitted with a fixed bracket structure (7) scraps the water and mud from the flat belt (8).
The present invention relates to an automatic water and mud scrapping device and a
method of scrapping.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In CHP (Coal Handling Plant), several numbers of belt conveyors are there for
conveying the material from one place to another. Most of the conveyors are covered
with canopy but some of them needs to be kept uncovered in line with requirements
of some equipment working over it e.g. all the yard conveyors to which Stacker
Reclaimer has to move cannot be covered. In rainy season, these conveyors get
flooded with water & mud. This needs to be cleaned prior to feeding the material
over these conveyors which in turn has to feed the material into other stream. At
present, the cleaning of the belt is being done manually.
To overcome the existing problems, the inventor emphasizes on the development of
Automatic Water Scraper. This development reduces the engagement of manual
labor which is very expensive & difficult in present time. This invention will improve
the efficiency and will reduce the time for the work.

OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
Therefore, it is an object of the invention to propose an automatic water and mud
scrapping device and a method of scrapping which is capable of eliminating the
drawbacks of the prior art.
Another object of the invention is to propose an automatic water and mud scrapping
device and a method of scrapping which is able to enhance productivity.
A further object of the invention is to propose an automatic water and mud scrapping
device and a method of scrapping which is capable of taking care of safety of
working force.
Yet another object of the invention is to propose an automatic water and mud
scrapping device and a method of scrapping which is capable of reducing manual
intervention of the people.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is an equipment “Automatic Water & mud Scraper” which is
being used in conjunction with Belt Conveyor. With the increase in problems towards
deployment of manpower in hazardous area, it is essential that the project should be

designed in such a way that it needs minimum intervention of people. In view of this,
this equipment has been developed which can be operated remotely and also
reduces the total time cycle for the operation.
This equipment is fitted on the same structure of the belt conveyor and can be
operated either electromechanically or hydraulically.
Care has been taken while designing this equipment so that main shaft (drive & nondrive)
can withstand extra load on it during its operation.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE
INVENTION
This equipment/device is mounted on the same structure of belt conveyor with some
modifications. All the arms work together with the help of links. The drive
arrangement is through actuator (mechanical or hydraulic).
As shown in Fig. 1, the Automatic Water & mud Scraper comprises of a Drive shaft
assly (1). The drive shaft assly is made of round and is rested on two Plummer
blocks (6). These plummer blocks are fitted on plummer block brackets (5). The drive
shaft is connected with non-drive shafts (2) with the help of links. The mechanism is
as such that all the shafts (drive & non-drive) work simultaneously in case of
actuation. Roller arrangement has been used to lift the belt.
In normal condition, these shafts (Drive & Non-drive) rest beneath the belt allowing
belt to run freely.
On actuation of actuator (4), all the shafts work together and lift the belt. During this
operation belt got flattened with the help of rollers. Over this flat portion of the belt,
one scraper (3) rests which scraps the water and mud from the belt. This scraper (3)
is fitted with a fixed bracket structure (7).
Actuation is possible in local and remote both.

1. The device is actuated by electro-mechanically or hydraulically. Either we can
use Electro mechanical actuator or Hydraulic cylinder for actuation purpose.
2. The device also can be actuated even the belt is in running condition. There is
no harm to actuate it even if the belt is in running condition. The roller which
is basically mounted on bearings exerts the minimum friction on the belts.
3. In this device power is transmitted through drive shaft to lift & flatten the belt.
Actuation of drive shaft, tends to lift the rollers which is connected through
links and in turn elevated roller lifts the belt.
4. Also, power is transmitted to different shafts simultaneously with the help of
connecting link. This is through mechanical links arrangement.
5. Limit switches has been provided to prevent extra run. This has been provided
at both the extreme positions.

Movement of the rollers and belt over it can be seen in figure 2. When the actuator is
in closed position means belt is in normal operation. After actuation of the actuator,
belt got lifted means it is in scraping position. In this position scraper comes to the
contact of the flat portion of the belt and scrapes the water & mud from the belt.
WE CLAIM
1. An automatic water and mud scrapping device and a method of scrapping, the
said device comprising;
a drive shaft assembly (1) connected to a non-drive shaft (2) through links;
a plurality of Plummer blocks (6) disposed for the drive shaft assembly (1) to
rest on the said blocks (6);
a plurality of Plummer block brackets (5) disposed for the plummer blocks (6)
fitted to the said brackets (5);
Characterized in that,
an actuator (4) is disposed for actuating all the shafts to work together for
lifting the belt and making it flat with the means of rollers wherein a scrapper (3)
fitted with a fixed bracket structure (7) is disposed for scraping water and mud
from the belt (8).
2. The said device as claimed in claim 1, wherein number of Plummer blocks
disposed are two.
3. A method for scrapping water and mud from a belt comprising;
connecting a drive shaft assembly (1) to a non-drive shaft (2) through links;

arranging the drive shaft assembly (1) to rest on a plurality of Plummer blocks
(6);
fixing the said Plummer blocks (6) to a plurality of Plummer block brackets;
wherein
an actuator (4) actuates all the shafts to work together to lift the belt flattened
by means of rollers when a scrapper (3) fitted to a fixed bracket structure (7)
scraps water and mud from the flat belt (8).
