Abstract: This invention relates to an Ayurvedic denture adhesive and oral medicine carrier comprising of 2-70% of salem panja or salep, 5-70% of Isabgol or Psyllium, 2-70% of safed musli, 20-75% of seed of makhana and 2-25% of seed of Tulsi.
FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to an Ayurvedic denture adhesive and oral medicine carrier.
PRIOR ART
Denture adhesives are used to secure artificial denture within the mouth. Conventionally known denture adhesives were prepared from fine powder of natural gum such as karaya, acacia or tragacanth and adhesives were also prepared by the synthetic materials such as car boxy-methylcellulose and polyvinyl cellulose. However, the same is associated with the drawbacks of synthetic adhesives reaction and toxicity.
DRAWBACK IN EXISTING KNOWN ART;
Main drawback in existing denture adhesive is its toxic and adverse side effect over mucosa and other part of body. All presently available denture adhesives are made by the use of artificial chemicals which exert adverse effect.
Presently all available denture adhesives act as a carrier and house for chemicals.
Available denture adhesives are not stable into water or saliva. Due to this, after application it is washed away from oral cavity after some time.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The primary object of the present invention is to propose such type of denture adhesive for the artificial dentures which minimizes the side effect of denture adhesives.
Again the objective is to propose such type of denture adhesive composition which does not contain any chemical.
The further objective is to propose such type of denture adhesive which is made by natural component.
Another object of the present invention is to propose such type of denture adhesive in which natural ingredient has natural sweetener by which there is no need of adding artificial sweetener agent.
Further objective of the present invention is to propose such type of denture adhesive in which color of used natural ingredient is colorless, therefore there is no need to add coloring agent into denture adhesive.
Another objective of present invention is to propose such type of denture adhesive which doesn't cause any side effect to oral mucosa and also safe for other systemic organs of body in the case of swallowing of denture adhesives.
Yet further object of the present invention is to propose such type of denture adhesive in which ingredient possesses feature of water stability and remain insoluble into water even after placing it into water for more than one week.
Further objective of present invention is to propose such type of denture adhesive which can withstand into oral cavity environment for a long period of time i.e. more than 48 hours.
Another objective of present invention is to propose such type of denture adhesive which increase the retention of denture and on pressure can produce non shear homogenous film.
Again the further objective is to propose such type of denture adhesive which possesses the feature of static flow ability and consistency in different temperature and pressure.
Further objective of present invention is to propose such type of denture adhesives which ingredient molecule has better cohesive strengths and not separate from each other even after giving more pressure.
Further objective of present invention is to propose such type of denture adhesive which also acts as an old age supplement for user.
Another objective of present invention is to propose such type of denture adhesive in which used ingredients also act as a neurological tonic, muscular tonic and tonic for general weakness.
Again the further objective is to propose such type of denture adhesive which act as a antacid and increase the digestion capacity of old aged person and also helpful in constipation to regularize normal motion.
Yet the further objective of present invention is to propose such type of denture adhesives in which ingredients also possesses the quality of
anti-inflammatory agents and tissue healer by which reduces the chance of denture stomatitis ulceration of oral mucosa and also helpful in healing of oral mucosa.
Again the further objective is to propose such type of denture adhesive which increases the ability of old aged oral mucosa to fight against chemicals, heavy metal and pressure and simultaneously increases the salivary secretion in the case of reduced salivary secretion.
Another objective of present invention is to propose such type of denture adhesive which made successfully in all three forms i.e. Powder, gel and tablet.
Again the further objective is to propose such type of denture adhesive in which ingredients also act as antimicrobial agent by which there is not required adding of antimicrobial agents.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided an Ayurvedic denture adhesive and oral medicine carrier comprising of 2-70% of salem panja or salep, 5-70% of Isabgol or Psyllium, 2-70% of safed musli, 20-75% of seed of makhana and 2-25% of seed of Tulsi.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
In this invention applicant propose composition of a new ayurvedsic denture adhesive and a medicinal carrier for skin and mucosal
medicament. The proposed composition is, prepare by the use of three natural herbs as a fine powder. The name of used herbs given below-
1- Salam panja or salep
2- Isabgol or psyllium
3- Safed musli
4- Seed of makhana
5- Seed of tulsi
These three medicinal plant is well known in the ayurvedic science and has been used as a health tonic and to treat several condition from thousands years.
These herbs naturally have those entire ideal characteristic which is necessary to use any ingredient as a denture adhesives.
Fine powder of these herbs used as a denture adhesive and the property of these herbs aid to make denture adhesive advantageous rather than toxic or adverse effects.
These all of three herbs used from a long time to treat various conditions and has well known and established effects. These all herbs are safe and till the date not a single case reported for the toxicity of herbs and don't have any side effects.
The detail description of all three herbs given below-
salam panja or salep-
Introduction-
Salam panja obtained from the tubules or root of a plurality of species of orchis such as latiforia L, o. laxiflora lain, o.maculata, o.militaris L, o.mario L, o.pyramidalis L, o.sambucina and o.simia L.
Chemical composition of herb salam panja is as follows:-48% mucilage 2.7% starch 5% nitrogen substance Glucoside and other component
USES AND PROPERTY OF SALAM PANJA HERB
This herb is used to treat many disorders. The fine powder of herb mixed with water or moisture becomes thick and mucilaginous
It is very much valued as a tonic. This feature of general tonic makes denture adhesive as a tonic during swallowing.
- It has sweetish taste
- It is used as a nutrient
- It is very useful to treat nervous debility, mental and physical exhaustion, hemiplagia and paralytic affections.
- It is also helpful in weak digestion, loose motion and hyperacidity.
- This medicine is useful for sexual inadequacy, diabetes, Leucorrhoea, general lethargy and Fibromyalgia
Uses of salep as a denture adhesive-
This herb fulfills all the requirements for an ideal denture adhesive.
Above said features of herb.remain active when it comes into adhesive form.
This herb salep has mucilage by which it swells to many folds when comes in contact with water which is a primary requirement to use any compound as a denture adhesive.
Salep has naturally sweetish taste by which there is no necessity to add sweetener into the powder of salep.
Salep is colorless due to which there is no need to add coloring agent into proposed denture adhesive.
Fine powder of salep is insoluble into water even when it is dipped into water for more than 7 days which gives stability to proposed denture adhesive into oral cavity saliva.
Molecule of salep has very good cohesive strength and its molecule does not get separated from each other even after applying more than 40 kg of pressure. Under high pressure, it changes into very thin film which is very important for a good adhesive.
Salep has sticky nature due to which it provides extra retention to composition of denture adhesive.
Main advantage of salep denture adhesive is that, it does not cause any adverse reactions into human body and it also acts as an old age body supplement in case patient uses this as a denture adhesive and swallow it.
All these properties of herb salam panja or salep remain active when uses as a fine powder for denture adhesive.
The amount of salep into proposed denture adhesive may be from 2% to 70% and in another embodiment it may be from 2% to4% and sometime it may be 100% by weight of adhesive

- It helps in Curing diabetes and arthritis.
- It increases male potency.

Adverse effect-
- It has no adverse effect.
Uses as a denture adhesive-
- This herb also possesses all features required for an ideal denture adhesive.
- It has mucilage and swells manifolds when comes in contact with water or moisture. It also has sticky nature.
- It has pleasant sweeter taste by which there is no necessity to add extra sweetener into the composition of proposed denture adhesives.
- It is colorless due to which there is no necessity to add coloring agent into proposed denture adhesive.
- It has very good cohesive strength which is very important for a good denture adhesive.
- When used as denture adhesive, it also acts as tonic and improves health of patient.
- The amount of safed musli into proposed denture adhesive may be from 2% to 70% and in another embodiment it may be from 2% to4% and sometime it may be 100% by weight of adhesive.
- Powder of safed musli remains insoluble into water for more than 7 days, which provides stability of proposed denture adhesive into oral cavity saliva.
Isabgol or psyllium husk-Genus- plantago Species- ovata Family-Plantaginaceae Common name: isabgol, psyllium
Edible uses- its mucilage seed coat is used as a stabilizer in ice cream, chocolate etc.
Physical property- the seeds have a mucilaginous coat and swell to several times of their volume in water.
This is another main ingredient of proposed ayurvedic denture adhesive. Character of this herb is suitable to be used as herb for a denture adhesive.
- Medicinal use-
- Psyllium is used as a safe and effective laxative.
- Used in the treatment of dysentery, catarrhal condition of the genitor-urinary tract and inflamed membranes of the intestinal tract.
- It helps to remove toxins from the body and also to reduce auto toxicity.
- Its most important use is that it is also effective in reducing cholesterol level.
- This herb is also used to treat atherosclerosis.
Preparing denture adhesive by using salep, isabgol, safed musli, makhana seed and tulsi seed.
Fine powder of this herb also possesses all features required for an ideal denture adhesive.
Powder of this herb is also colorless, tasteless and odorless due to which there is no necessity to mix coloring agent, sweeteners and flavoring agent into composition of proposed denture adhesive.
In addition to the five main ingredients as indicated above to prepare the adhesive base, the composition may optionally be prepared by adding any other component, which is commonly known and used in the denture adhesive art.
In one of optional embodiments, the proposed composition of denture adhesive is also made by adding methyl vinyl ether, maleic acid,
anhydride, or salt of the copolymer. However, these ingredients and equivalent thereof may be added although it is not necessary to do so.
In another embodiment, the proposed composition of denture adhesive can also be made by adding other suitable known water soluble hydrophilic colloids or polymers having the property of swelling upon exposure to moisture to form mucilaginous mass. These materials include copolymer of maleic acid or maleic anhydride or salts thereof, natural gums, synthetic polymeric gums, synthetic polymer, mucoadhesive polymer, hydrophilic polymer, sacchride derivatives, cellulose derivatives, and mixture thereof. Examples of such materials include karaya gum, guar gum, gelatin, algin, sodium alginate, tragacanth, chitosan, acrylamide polymer, polyacrylic acid derivative, polyvinyl alcohol, polyamines, polyamines, polyquartemary compounds, polybutenes, silicones and cationic polyacrylamide polymers.
In another embodiment, the proposed composition of denture adhesive is
mixed with optional adhesive component such as cellulose derivative in
the form of full or partial salts. Examples are methylcellulose derivatives,
sodium carboxymethylcellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose,
hhydroxypropylcellulose, hydroxyl-propylmethylcellulose, carboxymethylcellulose. In another embodiment, the optional components are carboxy-methylcellulose, karaya gum, sodium alginate, chitosan, polyvinyl alcohol, and mixtures thereof.

Proposed composition of new ayurvedic denture adhesive can also be formulated with addition of components known in the denture adhesive art. Those components are waxes, oils, preservatives, flavouring agents, colorant, sweetening agent, viscocity modifiers and so forth.
The composition of proposed denture adhesives is also mixed with waxes to enhance efficacy. The waxes comprise both natural and synthetic waxes and include without limitation animal waxes such as beeswax, lanolin and shellac wax, vegetable waxes such as carnuba, canelilla, and bayberry wax, mineral wax such as petroleum waxes including paraffin, and microcrystalline.
Proposed composition of denture adhesive can also be formulated with oils without limitation such as mineral oil, vegetable oil, corn, cottonseed, castor, palm, coconut and animal oils such as fish oil and oleic oil.
Existing known denture adhesive flavoring agents may be added to the composition of the present denture adhesive composition. These flavoring agents may be selected from synthetic flavor oils or oils derived from plants, leaves, flower, fruits and so forth. The flavoring agent may be a liquid, sprayed dried, encapsulated, adsorbed on a carrier and mixture thereof. In general amounts of these flavoring agents may be 0.01% to 5% by weight of the total denture adhesives composition. Sometime, it may be -05% to .15%.
In another embodiment, other preservatives can also be added into the composition of proposed denture adhesive. These preservatives are such
as benzoic acid and sodium benzoate: the parabens, sorbic acid and sorbate, prop ionic acid and propionates, acetic acid and acetates, nitrates and nitrites, sulfur dioxide and sulfite, antibiotics, diethyl pyrocarbonate, epoxides, hydrogen peroxides and phosphates. The amount of these preservative may be .03% to .6% by weight of the total denture adhesives composition.
New proposed denture adhesive composition may also include the sweeteners wherein the sweetening agent may be selected from a wide range of material including water soluble agents, water soluble artificial sweetener and dipped based sweetener including mixtures thereof.
Composition of denture adhesive and oral medicine carrier is as follows:
1- Salem Panja or salep - 2% to 70%
2- Isabgol or psyllium - 5% to 70%
3- Safed Musli - 2% to 70 %
4- Seed of Makhana 20% to 75%
5- Seed of tulsi 2% to 25%
6- Any preservative 0.03% to 0.6%
7- Any waxes and oil 2% to 8%
Properties of above said five herbs
Salem Panja or salep - sweet, antibacterial, antiseptic and Mucilaginous
Isabgol psyllium - acts as Thickening agent & provides consistency
Safed Musli - provides oily property and acts as base.
Seed of Makhan - insoluble in water and saliva & increases cohesive
strength
Seed of tulsi - Antibacterial, antiseptic and also makes adhesive
insoluble in Saliva
New property of the denture adhesive
When the five ingredients are mixed in the proposed composition, the resultant mixture can be used as Denture adhesive-Tissue conditioner Medicament carrier
New property of resultant mixture is tissue healing with better cohesive strength. This permits wider dispersion of forces and hence aids to decrease force per unit area transmitted to the supporting tissues. The conditioners are generally used to preserve residual ridges. They are also used to heal irritated hyperemic tissues prior to denture fabrication. The resultant mixture fulfils all these criteria to be used as a tissue conditioner. Additionally, it also has antiseptic and antibacterial effects on oral mucosal ulcers.
Steps of Preparing denture adhesive
The herbs namely, Salem Panja, Isabgol, Safed musli, seed of makhana and seed of tulsi are collected separately and washed with water. Herbs are then dried and powder of each individual herb is prepared. The powders thus obtained are then mixed in the proportional ratio to obtain the resultant mixture.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the following claims:-
I CLAIM:
1. An Ayurvedic denture adhesive and oral medicine carrier comprising of 2-70% of salem panja or salep, 5-70% of Isabgol or Psyllium, 2-70% of safed musli, 20-75% of seed of makhana and 2-25% of seed of Tulsi.
2. An Ayurvedic denture adhesive and oral medicine carrier as claimed in claim 1 comprising of 0.03-0.6% of preservative and 2-8% of wax and oil.
3. An Ayurvedic denture adhesive and oral medicine carrier as claimed in claim 1 or 2, comprising of water soluble hydrophilic colloids or polymers, adhesive component and other components such as waxes, oils, preservatives, flavouring agents, colorant, sweetening agent, velocity modifiers etc such as herein described.
4. An Ayurvedic denture adhesive and oral medicine carrier substantially as herein described and illustrated.
