Abstract: AN ELECTRICAL SOCKET The present invention provides an electrical socket. The electrical socket of the invention comprises at least one contact assembly. Each of the contact assembly has a terminal and a contact clip. The terminal of the contact assembly is provisioned to accommodate one end of the said contact clip therein. Fig. 4
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to an electrical socket, and more particularly to an electrical socket having socket clip that has direct contact with the electrical cable.
BACKGROUND
Generally, electrical socket has a contact assembly comprising of terminals and its corresponding contact clips. Each of the terminals of the contact assembly has a provision to accommodate the electrical cable or wire connected to the terminal by a screw mechanism. Each of the terminals of the contact assembly is riveted to its corresponding contact clip that provides contact to the plug pins of the electrical load.
In the arrangement of the electrical socket described above, the electrical current flows through the electrical cable to the terminals and to the contact clips of the electrical socket resulting in voltage drop. Also, in the case of riveting done loosely, leakage of current occurs due to which there is an increase or rise in temperature which damages or burns the electrical socket and sometimes even the apparatus connected to it. On the other hand riveting done more tightly damages the contact clip and of the terminal. Besides this, riveting is an additional operation in producing the electrical socket, and hence directly contributes towards the increase in time of manufacture and of the cost thereof, and requires additional attention in assembling or manufacturing the electrical socket.
Also, it becomes imperative to ensure that the contact established for the plug pins within or by the contact clips is secure without loose contact, to avoid leakage of current and temperature rise in the electrical socket, as this is often experienced in the electrical socket of the present art.
Therefore, there is a need for an electrical socket that provides improved contact with the plug pins and also eliminates or reduces the voltage drop and of the leakage of the current thereof.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
It is an object of the invention to provide an electrical socket that provides improved contact to the plug pins.
It is also an object of the invention to provide an electrical socket, wherein the voltage drop is eliminated or reduced.
It is another object of the invention to provide an electrical socket, wherein the leakage of the current is eliminated or reduced.
It is yet another object of the invention to provide an electrical socket that is simple in construction.
Further object of the invention is to provide an electrical socket that is easier to assemble and manufacture.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Accordingly the present invention provides an electrical socket. The electrical socket of the invention comprises at least one contact assembly. Each of the contact assembly has a terminal and a contact clip. The terminal of the contact assembly is provisioned to accommodate one end of the said contact clip therein.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Fig. 1 shows a contact assembly (10) of the prior art. The contact assembly (10) has a terminal (11) riveted to the contact clip (12). The electrical cable or wire is inserted into the hole in the terminal (11) and secured by a fastening means (13) such as screw. The contact clip (12) has provision to receive or accommodate the plug pin.
The juncture of riveting of the terminal (11) and the contact clip (12) causes voltage drop and loose riveting as such causes leakage of current. This, increases or raises the temperature, and eventually damages the electrical socket and the apparatus thereof.
The invention is described hereinafter with reference to a non-exhaustive exemplary embodiment through Figs. 2 to 6.
In, Figs. 2 to 6, an electrical socket (100) is shown. The electrical socket (100) comprises of at least one contact assembly (110). Each of the contact assembly (110) has a terminal (111) and a contact clip (112). The terminal (111) accommodates the electrical cable or wire into it for electrical connection. The electrical cable or wire is inserted through the guide (115) like profile in the electrical socket (100), and is secured into the terminal (111) by a fastening means (113) such as screw. The provision for fastening means (113) in respect of each of the contact assembly are provided in a linear fashion or alongside to one another, enabling the insertion of electrical cable or wire and securing it by fastening means much easier. One end (112a) of the contact clip (112) is inserted or accommodated in the terminal (111), where the one end (112a) of the contact clip comes in direct contact with the electrical cable or wire secured therein in the terminal (111). The other end (112b) of the contact clip (112) suitably accommodates a spring clip (114). One end (114a) of the spring clip (114) has a profile such as a bent, to provide grip to the plug pin when inserted into the electrical socket (100) through the pin guide (116) in the electrical socket, so as to provide proper contact and thereby eliminate loose contact, and of the leakage of current and temperature rise thereof. The other end (114b) of the spring clip (114) is suitably positioned along with the other end (112b) of the contact clip (112).
Here, the terminal (111), contact clip (112) and the spring clip (114) are individual or separate components or elements that are suitably positioned and assembled together without any joints or rivets or the like, unlike the contact assembly of the prior art. This facilitates the assembling or manufacture of the electrical socket having such contact assemblies, as the above referred components or elements of the contact assembly are individually made available and its assembling is quite simpler eliminating the need for joining through riveting or the like.
Accordingly, the contact assembly of the electrical socket herein described eliminates the voltage drop and the leakage of current and of the temperature rise etc, thereby providing an electrical socket that is reliable and safe for operation.
