Abstract: AN ELECTRODE COMPRISING A BINARY LAYERED OXIDE AS AN ELECTRODE MATERIAL FOR RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES The present disclosure provides an electrode comprising K2/3Co1/3Mn2/3O2 5 (KCM) or K2/3Ni1/6Co1/6Mn2/3O2 (KNCM) as an electrode material. The present disclosure also provides a method of synthesis of KCM and KNCM compounds, and an electrochemical device comprising the electrode. The KCM or KNCM containing electrode can work as a cathode in K-ion rechargeable batteries.

(KNCM) as an electrode material.
2. The electrode as claimed in claim 1, wherein the electrode material is KCM.
5 3. The electrode as claimed in claim 2, wherein the KCM is a P2-type layered
compound.
4. The electrode as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the electrode is a
cathode.
5. The electrode as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the electrode
10 provides a voltage of about 2.7-2.9 V.
6. The electrode as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the electrode shows
discharge capacities of about 74 mAh/g to about 115 mAh/g at 40 °C.
7. The electrode as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the electrode shows
discharge capacities of about 80 mAh/g to about 126 mAh/g at 50°C.
15 8. An electrochemical device, comprising the electrode as claimed in any one of
claims 1 to 7.
9. The electrochemical device as claimed in claim 8, wherein the electrochemical
device is a battery.
10. The electrochemical device as claimed in claim 9, wherein the battery is a K20 ion battery.
