Specification

[001] The present subject matter described herein, relates to a vehicle construction and more particularly, relates to an engine oil receiving port / hole and a corresponding closure member.
BACKGROUND AND PRIOR ART:
[002] Engine oil is a necessary element for the proper operation and lubrication of an automobile engine. Thus, each automobile has a means or an access opening through which an operator may replenish the engine oil when it falls below a certain level. The means (or orifice) is referred to herein as the oil filler access or opening, generally in cylinder head cover, for filling the engine oil into the engine. This opening is used frequently while engine oil level top up/replacement is required.
[003] As shown in Fig. 1, the oil filler access or opening 90 is usually located at a top portion of the engine, such as at or near the top of the engine block or an associated component of the engine, such as a valve cover, and a removable cap 95, having an O-ring or plain gasket, is used to provide a pressure seal during normal engine operation. The removable cap 95 also prevents oil from splashing all over the engine compartment when the engine is running. Further, the removal cap 95 is provided with threads, teeth, or spiral slot mechanism, and corresponding mating structures are provided with the oil filler access or opening 90, such that the removable cap 95 is locked with the opening 90.
[004] However, the conventional design as shown in Figure 1 includes more number of parts, a projection on the removable cap 95 for holding and rotating, complex and intricate threads or equivalents on the removable cap 95 and the opening, and possibility of misplacing and/or contaminating the removable cap 95 when not engaged with the opening. Such is undesirable.
[005] However, the assembly, shape, operation and location of the parts mentioned in the prior art are not similar to the present disclosure.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION:
[006] The principal objective of the present invention is to provide a novel design for an engine oil filling structure provided with an integrated, self-locking, snap fit closure member / cap.
[007] Another object of the present subject matter is to provide a simple, cost effective, and efficiently engine oil filling structure that is distinct from all conventional designs.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
[008] The present invention relates to an engine oil filling structure for a vehicle. The engine oil filling structure includes an engine oil receiving portion defining a substantially hollow cylindrical opening surrounded by a cylindrical wall, the engine oil receiving portion having a converging-diverging throat defined by a converging part and a diverging part; and a covering structure configured to be removably secured to the engine oil receiving portion, the covering structure defining a gripping part, and an inserting part extending from the gripping part, the inserting part being configured to be retained about the converging-diverging throat upon securing of the covering structure with the engine oil receiving portion.

It should be noted that the description merely illustrates the principles of the present subject matter. It will thus be appreciated that those skilled in the art will be able to devise various arrangements that, although not explicitly described herein, embody the principles of the present subject matter and are included within its scope.
[0020] Fig. 2 illustrates a perspective view of an engine oil filling structure (100) for a vehicle (not shown) in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. In an embodiment, the engine oil filling structure (100) includes an engine oil receiving portion (102) defining a substantially hollow cylindrical opening surrounded by a cylindrical wall (104). Further, the engine oil filling

structure (100) includes a covering structure (108) configured to be removably secured to the engine oil receiving portion (102).
[0021] Fig. 3 illustrates an exploded view of the engine oil filling structure (100) depicting the engine oil receiving portion (102) and the covering structure (108) in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. In an embodiment, the engine oil receiving portion (102) includes a converging-diverging throat (106) defined by a converging part (106a) and a diverging part (106b). Further, the covering structure (108) defines a gripping part (110), and an inserting part (112) extending from the gripping part (110). In an embodiment, the inserting part (112) is configured to be retained about the converging-diverging throat (106) upon securing of the covering structure (108) with the engine oil receiving portion (102).
[0022] In an example, the inserting part (112) includes a sealing member (114) for ensuring a seal proof environment when the covering structure (108) is secured with the engine oil receiving portion (102). In an example, the sealing member (114) is an O-ring, or the like member. Further, the gripping part (110) includes an open-close assist (116). In an example, the open-close assist (116) allows an operator to open and/or close the covering structure (108) relative to the engine oil receiving portion (102).
[0023] Fig. 4a shows a sectional view of the engine oil receiving portion (102) of Fig. 3 in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. Fig. 4b shows a sectional view of the engine oil filling structure (100) of Fig. 3, wherein the covering structure (108) is secured to the engine oil receiving portion (102). Referring to Figs. 2, 3, 4a-4b collectively, the diverging part (106b) of the engine oil receiving portion (102) is tapered with an increasing diameter across a depth of the engine oil receiving portion (102). Further, the sealing member (114) compresses about the converging part (106a), and successively expands about the diverging part (106b) upon securing of the covering structure (108) with the engine oil receiving portion (102). Fig. 4b shows the expanded state of the sealing

member (114), with the covering structure (108) being completely secured to the engine oil receiving portion (102).
[0024] In an embodiment, the covering structure (108) is secured to the engine oil receiving portion (102) through a clamping structure (118). In an example, the clamping structure (118) includes a hinge. Further in an embodiment, the clamping structure (118) includes U-shaped claws (120) disposed on the gripping part (110), and a pipe shaped grip (122) disposed on the cylindrical wall (104), wherein the U-shaped claws (120) are configured to removably engage with the pipe shaped grip (122) to define the clamping structure (118). Referring to Fig. 4b, the U-shaped claws (120) are hingedly engaged with the pipe shaped grip (122), as the pipe shaped grip (122) allows a pivotal relation with the U-shaped claws (120).
[0025] The engine oil filling structure (100) as described above with reference to the accompanied drawings overcomes the limitations of the conventional designs. For example, the engine oil filling structure (100) includes less number of parts, no projection on the covering structure (108) for rotation, no complex and intricate threads or the like structures, and no misplacement and / or contamination of the covering structure (108), as the covering structure (108) is tethered / secured to the engine oil receiving portion (102).
[0026] Although embodiments for the present subject matter have been described in language specific to structural features, it is to be understood that the present subject matter is not necessarily limited to the specific features described. Rather, the specific features and methods are disclosed as embodiments for the present subject matter. Numerous modifications and adaptations of the system/component of the present invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, and thus it is intended by the appended claims to cover all such modifications and adaptations which fall within the scope of the present subject matter.
