Field of the invention
The present invention relates to an air cooler integrated with an air heater. More particularly, the present invention relates to an evaporative air cooler that enables cooling and heating functions embodied in same appliance.
Background of the invention
The conventional air coolers available in the market perform the cooling by means of a pump, a fan and a cooling media including a honeycomb pad or wood-wool. Said coolers also require continuous use water and electricity for the purpose of performing cooling function. The conventional heaters available in the market perform the heating function by passage of air through heating elements and circulating the hot air to the environment by way of a fan or a blower. Such cooling and heating function is not performed by a single appliance.
Such an appliance is disclosed in US4505327A. Said invention relates to Heating and cooling apparatus includes an evaporative cooler and a heat pump connected to each other and to a common duct system for utilizing the attributes of both systems for efficient heating and cooling. The evaporative cooler may be used to cool a structure directly or it may be used to cool the condenser coils of a heat pump. The evaporative cooler may also be used to cool attic space. The evaporative cooler and the heat pump are disposed adjacent to each other and are connected by an interface adapter, and the interface adapter is in turn connected to attic space through which air from the attic flows, particularly to assist the heat pump in the heating mode.
Such an appliance is disclosed in US4713943A. Said invention relates to an evaporative cooler air conditioning system comprising an air-to-air counter-flow heat exchanger having separate dry cooling and wet evaporating chambers, air saturating elements, and air movement devices. Ambient supply air or other fluid is forced through the dry cooling chamber of the heat exchanger and exits, after transferring through the heat exchanger, into the cooled spaced or room to be cooled. The air in the cooled space absorbs heat from the heat load and reaches an equilibrium at a warmer temperature, and is then forced directly through the wet evaporative chamber of the heat exchanger where it is heavily saturated with water or other liquid. As the air or other fluid passes through the wet evaporating enclosure a reverse temperature profile results and heat is drawn from the supply air fluid on the dry side through the heat exchanger to evaporate the water or other liquid; it results in the cooling of the supply air or other fluid exiting the dry side of the heat exchanger to a temperature that can be significantly below its wet-bulb temperature and approaching to its dew point temperature.
Such an appliance is disclosed in US4284128A. Said invention relates to an evaporation type air cooler, the improvement comprising a heat exchanger wherein circulating liquid is cooled by the evaporatively cooled air and subsequently used to air condition occupant space without humidity increase, and associated air ducting and flow controls. The improvement is also adapted to be used as a space heater utilizing hot water in the heat exchanger, and to utilize hot attic or external air to aid in heating water for occupant use.
Such an appliance is disclosed in US6324862B1. Said invention relates to an enhanced evaporative cooler, which can be transformed into a heater. It is embodied in a single unit with two operational modes. In the A or cooling mode it is comprised of two cooling stages, the first stage consists of an air blower and a plurality of evaporation channels, and a cold water collection tray placed under the said channels, the evaporation channels have nozzles injecting high pressure water, producing a very fine spray, part of the spray evaporates, the rest is cooled and collected in the cool water tray, this cool water is pump circulated through the second stage. The second stage consists of an air to water heat exchanger, an air blower and a warm water collection tray where the output from the heat exchanger is collected, the water in the warm water tray is pumped back to the nozzles starting a new cycle. In the B or heater mode a heater element located in the second stage warm water tray is activated, the so heated water circulates only within the second stage.
The appliances as described in the prior art are quite expensive and storage of said appliances requires a lot of space. Moreover, the appliances does not provide for integration of cooling and heating functions in an evaporative cooler.
Objective of the Invention
The objective of the present invention is to design an evaporative air cooler that provides for cooling and heating functions.
The instant invention achieves the objective by employing a heating system in connection to a cooling system in an evaporative air cooler thereby providing cooling and heating functioning.
Summary of the Invention
The present invention relates to an air cooler integrated with an air heater. More particularly, the present invention relates to an evaporative air cooler that enables cooling and heating functions embodied in same appliance.
The instant invention includes the following features:
1. Heating elements
2. Cooling media including wood wool or honeycomb.
3. Controls for heating & cooling function
4. Controls including manual switch or PCB (electronic) assisted.
5. Air delivery by fan blade or blower assisted.
6. Body material including plastics and metal.
7. Mobility by means of castor wheels or without castor wheels.
8. Four way deflection.
9. Water level indicator.
10. Motor.
11. Pump.
12. Swing motor.
13. Front grill.
14. Side grills.
15. Control panel.
The heating element employed in the instant invention is PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient). A PTC heater is made of small ceramic pieces pressed between two metal plates. The constraint compartment causes them to get a strong PTC effect. The typical temperature of ceramic stones is 140–250 °C. When a voltage is applied to a PTC heater electrical current flows through the material and the resistivity of the material causes it to heat up. As it heats up the resistivity increases rapidly and the heat produced decreases. At the same time heat is being transferred from the heater to the object it is attached to, and its surrounding.
