Detailed Description of the Invention
[0027] The following is a detailed description of embodiments of the disclosure depicted in the accompanying drawings. The disclosed embodiments are merely exemplary of the invention, which may be embodied in various forms. The embodiments are in such detail as to clearly communicate the disclosure. However, the amount of detail offered is not intended to limit the anticipated variations of embodiments; on the contrary, the intention is to cover all modifications, equivalents, and alternatives falling within the spirit and scope of the present disclosure as defined by the appended claims.
[0028] In the following description, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of embodiments of the present invention. It will be apparent to one skilled in the art that embodiments of the present invention may be practiced without some of these specific details.
[0029] The present disclosure relates to an exhaust treatment system for a vehicle which produces symmetric swirling of the exhaust gas and the exhaust treating agent.
[0030] Referring to figure 1, according to an embodiment, an exhaust treatment system (1) for a vehicle is shown. The exhaust treatment system (1) includes an exhaust pipe (10) adapted to guide and direct an exhaust gas from the engine to the exhaust treatment system (1), an injector (14) for injecting an exhaust treating agent into the exhaust pipe (10), and a mixer assembly (100).
[0031] In an embodiment as shown in figure 1, a plate shaped mixer body (50) is arranged in the exhaust pipe (10) of the exhaust after-treatment system (1) such that the circumference (or perimeter) of the plate shaped mixer body (50) is air-tightly fixed with an inner surface of the exhaust pipe (10). Further, the exhaust pipe (10) comprises a diesel oxidation catalytic (DOC) converter (12) arranged at an upstream flow side (5-1) and a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalytic converter (13) arranged at a downstream flow side (5-2) and in between of the DOC converter (12) and SCR catalytic convertor (13) the plate shaped mixer body (50) is disposed.
[0032] Referring to figures 2a and 2b, the mixer assembly (100) comprising the plate shaped mixer body (50) with the upstream flow side (5-1) and the downstream flow side (5-2) with respect to a main exhaust gas flow direction (5). Particularly, the plate shaped mixer body (50) includes an elongated curved shaped slot (51) extending around the circumference (or perimeter) of the plate shaped mixer body (50). Further, the elongated curved shaped slot (51) is covered by a curved-shaped member (8) such that a first opening (8-1) and a second opening (8-2) is created in between the elongated curved shaped slot (51) and the curved-shaped member (8) at the downstream flow side (5-2) for producing symmetric swirling of the exhaust gas and the exhaust treating agent as shown in figure 5.
[0033] Further in an embodiment, the injector (14) is positioned at or on the exhaust pipe (10) (as shown in figure 1) such that the exhaust treating agent is sprayed in a space upstream of the plate shaped mixer body (50) into the exhaust pipe (10), where the mixer of the exhaust treating agent and exhaust gas flows towards the curved-shaped member (8) of the plate shaped mixer body (50) which produces symmetric swirling of the exhaust gas and the exhaust treating agent. Particularly, an impactor is arranged in the space upstream of the plate shape mixer body (50) such that the exhaust treating agent strikes on the impactor which breaks the exhaust treating agent into small droplets resulting in initial mix of exhaust gas and reductant agent.
[0034] Now referring to figure 2a, 3a and 3b in detail, the first opening (8-1) and the second opening (8-2) are arranged at opposite extremity of the curve-shaped member (8) and opens to a plane substantially perpendicular to the plate shaped mixer body (50) such that the mixer of the exhaust gas and exhaust gas treating agent flows substantially parallel to the plate shaped mixer body (50). In an aspect of the invention, the mixer of the exhaust gas and exhaust gas treating agent flows almost parallelly or with a tolerance of 5-10 degrees to the plate shaped mixer body (50).
[0035] Further in an embodiment as shown in figure 2a, the plate shaped mixer body (50) comprises one or more passage hole (52) arranged above the elongated curved shaped slot (51) and/or around the central area of the plate shaped mixer body (50).
[0036] In an implementation, firstly the exhaust gas from engine flows into the exhaust pipe (10) pass through the DOC (12) and then mixed with the exhaust treatment agent injected by the injector (14) which is of a cone shape. Then, the mixer of the exhaust gas and the exhaust treating agent flows towards the curved-shaped member (8) and the one or more passage hole (52) of the plate shaped mixer body (50) which produces symmetric swirling of the mixed exhaust gas and the exhaust treating agent which results into better mixing of the exhaust treating agent and is finally before exhausting into the environment passes through the SCR (13) to exhaust clean exhaust gases.
[0037] Now referring to figure 4, the mixer assembly (100) for an exhaust after-treatment system of a vehicle is shown. The mixer assembly (100) includes the plate shaped mixer body (50) with the upstream flow side (5-1) and the downstream flow side (5-2), with respect to an exhaust gas main flow direction (5). The plate shaped mixer body (50) includes atleast an elongated curved shaped slot (51) extending around the circumference of the plate shaped mixer body (50). The elongated curved shaped slot (51) is covered by the curved-shaped member (8) such that a first opening (8-1) and a second opening (8-2) is created in between the elongated curved shaped slot (51) and the curved-shaped member (8) at the downstream flow side (5-2). Particularly referring fig. 3a, 3b and 4, two sets of curved shaped slot (51) and the respective curved-shaped member (8) is shown. Two sets of curved shaped slot and curved shaped members can improve mixing performances. It may be obvious to a person skilled in the art to use more than two sets of curved shaped slot and curved shaped members in the mixer assembly (100) to improve the mixing performances.

[0039] While the foregoing describes various embodiments of the invention, other and further embodiments of the invention may be devised without departing from the basic scope thereof. The scope of the invention is determined by the claims that follow. The invention is not limited to the described embodiments, versions or examples, which are included to enable a person having ordinary skill in the art to make and use the invention when combined with information and knowledge available to the person having ordinary skill in the art.
[0040] The proposed invention provides an advantage of cost-effective, lean and compact design and easy to assemble mixer assembly (100).
