Abstract: A fuel pumping system (10) for an engine, is provided. The fuel pump housing (12) comprising at least one movable plunger (14) in a barrel (16) to pressurize fuel. Further, the fuel pump housing (12) includes a baffle screw (20) fitted in to said fuel pump housing (12) in proximity to an inlet hole (18) of the barrel (16), to receive the return jets of pressurized fuel. Furthermore, the baffle screw (20) is provided with extended length such that to prevent the rotation of the barrel (16). Further the barrel (16) comprising a slot (22) in the head such that said baffle screw (20) with extended length protrudes into said slot (22) in the head of the barrel (16), in order to prevent the rotation of the barrel (16).
Claims:1. A fuel pumping system (10) for an engine, said system (10) comprising:
-a fuel pump housing (12) comprising at least one movable plunger (14) in
a barrel (16) to pressurize fuel;
a baffle screw (20) fitted in to said fuel pump housing (12) in proximity to
an inlet hole (18) of the barrel (16), to receive the return jets of pressurized
fuel;
characterized in that:
- said baffle screw (20) is provided with extended length; and
- said barrel (16) comprising a slot (22) in the head such that said baffle
screw (20) with extended length protrudes into said slot (22) in the head of
the barrel (16) in order to prevent the rotation of the barrel (16).
2. The fuel pumping system (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said baffle
screw (20) comprising protrusions such that said protrusion encounters said
slot (22) in the barrel head, restricting rotation of the barrel.
3. The fuel pumping system (10) as claimed in claim 2, wherein said
protrusion has no threads such that it just fits in the slot (22) in the barrel
head.
4. The fuel pumping system (10) as claimed in claim 2, wherein the depth of
said barrel slot (22) is such that the gap between said protrusion of the
baffle screw (20) and the inlet hole (18) is retained as per the existing gap.
5. The fuel pumping system (10) as claimed in claim 2, wherein the width of
said slot (22) is such that the gap between said protrusion of the baffle
screw (20) fits in the baffle slot (22) with minimal gap between in order to
restrict the rotation of the barrel (16).
6. The fuel pumping system (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said slot (22)
is provided in the head of the barrel (16) near the inlet hole (18), the
countersink is eliminated.
7. The fuel pumping system (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said pump
housing (12) do not make use of a separate dowel pin and an additional
hole for a dowel pin. , Description:A fuel pumping system (10) for an engine, is provided. The fuel pump housing (12)
comprising at least one movable plunger (14) in a barrel (16) to pressurize fuel.
Further, the fuel pump housing (12) includes a baffle screw (20) fitted in to said fuel
pump housing (12) in proximity to an inlet hole (18) of the barrel (16), to receive the
return jets of pressurized fuel. Furthermore, the baffle screw (20) is provided with
extended length such that to prevent the rotation of the barrel (16). Further the barrel
(16) comprising a slot (22) in the head such that said baffle screw (20) with extended
length protrudes into said slot (22) in the head of the barrel (16), in order to prevent
the rotation of the barrel (16).
