Field of Invention:
The present invention relates to a novel substance with total extract of Agarwood (Aquilaria Agallocha synonimus with Aquilaria malaccansis) obtained by super critical fluid extraction method using C02 as a solvent.
Summary of Invention:
The present invention offer a total extract of agarwood obtained by Super Critical Fluid Extraction using C02. This product is of natural origin and is nearest to the natural form.
SCF extracted Agarwood contains active ingredients which are useful for aromatherapy, pharmaceutical formula and cosmetic applications.
PriorArt
At present agarwood oil and waxes are produced by
'!) Hydro distillation and ii) extraction by organic solvents.
In hydro distillation the oil and waxes are obtained but the product is having lot of hydrolysis products, monoterpene hydrocarbons as well as thermaly degraded/decomposed products. This gives the undesirable odour to the product. The product lacks the presence of natural ingredients.
Agarwood extracts obtained by extraction with organic solvents like Benzene, Hexane, Pet ether, Acetone, Alcohol etc. are always contaminated with organic solvents. The process is carried out at elevated temperature. This causes the thermal degradation of thermally labile ingredients. The extract is always contaminated with harmful solvent residue and undesirable odours.
The objectives of the inventions are:
i) To produce Agarwood extracts having very fine, near natural aroma.
ii) To extract all the naturally occurring ingredients of agarwood devoid of any degradation, hydrolysis products.

iii) A extract should be free from any residual solvent.
iv) Extract should be free from any microbial contamination and heavy metals.
v) To produce an extract with all natural ingredients, intact so that it can be used in aroma therapy, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and perfumery.
vi) To prepare extracts of Agarwood from fresh as well as from spent Agarwood chips (chips obtained after hydrodistillation).
Novel Features of Invention:
Super Critical Fluid Extraction extracted Agarwood extract has following features:
i) Product (Extract) is 100% natural, pure
li) Extract has unrestructured constituents
iii) Process employs non-toxic, tasteless, odourless, nonflamable and easily removable. GRAs solvent i.e. C02 so no harmful solvent residues in extract
iv) Lower levels of monoterpene hydrocarbon and no hydrolysis products in the
extract.
v) Extract has an aroma of natural agarwood.
Brief Description of Process -
Liquid C02 is pumped by high pressure pump through the heater to achieve super critical state [ C02 has its critical temp. 31 deg. C and pressure of 73.8 Bar ] prior to entring the extractor. The extracter is filled with pulverised Agarwood Super critical C02 carrying the desired extract is taken to the separator by controlling temperature and pressure. Solute is removed from C02. This C02 is recycled back to the system.
According to the present invention a extract of Aquiiaria Agailacho Synonimus with Aquilaria malaccansis obtained by treating with carbon dioxide in super critical state at a temperature of 31 deg. C having a very fine natural aroma, free from hydrolysis product and from any residual solvent.

The extract possess an aroma of natural Agarwood.
Further the extract of Agarwood is free from any microbial contamination and having metals, possessing unrestructured constituents.and comprises lower levels of monoterpena hydrocarbons and no hydrolysis products in the said extract.
Use of Invention:
SCFE extracts of Agarwood is non-toxic nearest to its natural form. This finds its usage in perfumery application as fixative and making attars of agar. The true nature identical extrat of agarwood by SCFE has its application in aromatherapy, cosmetics and oriental medicines.
The invention will be described in brief with reference to the following accompanying drawings.
Wherein Figure 1 shows system and apparatus used for super critical fluid extraction using C02.
Figure 2 shows gas chromatograph of duham grade extract by hydrodistillation method.
Figure 3 shows gas chromatograph of duham grade extract by super critical fluid extraction method.
Examples:
We have carried out the extraction of various grades of fresh agarwood chips as well as spent agarwood chips.

The present invention relates to a novel process for extracting oil, waxes and resins from Agarwood (Aquilaria Agallocha synonimus with Aquilaria malaccansis) by super critical fluid extraction method using C02 as a solvent comprising pumping liquid carbon dioxide by means of a high pressure pump through the super heater to achieve carbon dioxide super critical state, at critical temperature and pressure, filling an extractor with pulverised agarwood, passing the carbon dioxide in super critical state through the extractor, passing the said extract along with the v.iper critical carbon-dioxide through a separator maintained at desired temperature and pressure to remove the carbon-dioxide, removing the solute from carbon dioxide, recycling the said carbon-dioxide in the system pressure of system is 90 bar to 300 bar at a temp, of 35 deg. to 45. Deg. C The total extract obtained is 10.75 gms
The following table indicates the yields obtained from various grades of agarwood.

The extracts obtained by SCFE are analyzed against the products obtained by conventional hydrodistillation method of similar grade The analysis is carried out by G.C. and G.C.M.S. The results of Duham grade extract by SCFE and by conventional hydrodistillation method are discussed below.
a) Doham Extract by hydrodistillation.
This is a semisolid viscous brownish material. GC analysis of this indicates presence of about 47 ingredients. High boiling and high molecular wt Components are not present in the extract. The extract is having undesirable aroma. G.C.M.S. indicates lot of monoterpone hydrocarbon and hydrolysis products. (Pi. refer to Fig. 1 - G.C. of Duham Grade extract obtained by hydrodistillation)
b) Doham grade extract obtained by SCFE
This is a viscous, light brown coloured material. GLC analysis indicates total 50 components present in the extract. The peak No 44 - [ RT 68.42 and area 34.44% j and peak No. 47 [ RT 79.82 Area 9.44% ] indicates the presence of additional constituents presant in the SCFE extract. (Please refer to fig. 2 G.C. of Doham grade extract obtained by SCFE method). Aroma of extract is nearer to the natural agarwood.
GCMS analysis of both these extracts has been carried out, the results are tabulated below:-
