Abstract: This invention relates to wheel speed sensing device for vehicle with antilock brake system comprising of a connector connected to a data acquisition system wherein said connector is electrically connected to antilock braking system of the vehicle for retrieving wheel pulse signals.
FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to wheel speed sensing device for vehicle with antilock
brake system.
PRIOR ART
Vehicle testing plays a crucial role for development of vehicle. Various tests are
performed to check the vehicle performance at different conditions. One of the
important parameters to be checked is on safety grounds.
When sudden brake is applied on the vehicle, there is a high chance of wheel
lock. In this case, anti lock braking system prevents wheel lock and maintains
the steerability of the vehicle. During testing, it is important to test the ABS
performance by measuring wheel speed. Currently, the wheel speed data is
acquired with the help of wheel pulse transducers (WPT) which are mounted
externally on all four wheels and associated with the following disadvantages: ,
(a) Expensive
(b) Centering of the transducers is difficult, therefore, mounting takes more
time
(c) More prone to get damaged in wet conditions
Hence, it is required to develop wheel speed sensing device for vehicle with
antilock brake system which can address the aforementioned drawbacks.
An object of the present invention is to provide wheel speed sensing device for
vehicle with antilock brake system which overcomes disadvantages of the prior
art.
Another object of the present invention is to provide wheel speed sensing device
for vehicle with antilock brake system which is cost effective.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide wheel speed sensing
device for vehicle with antilock brake system which is functional in wet
condition.
Further another object of the present invention is to provide wheel speed
sensing device for vehicle with antilock brake system which is efficient and
reliable.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided wheel speed sensing device for
vehicle with antilock brake system comprising of a connector connected to a
data acquisition system wherein said connector is electrically connected to
antilock braking system of the vehicle for retrieving wheel pulse signals.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from
the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying
drawings and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows: wheel speed sensing device of the present invention connected to
wheels of vehicle with antilock brake system.
Fig. 2 shows: graphical presentation of data indicating various wheel speeds at
the time of antilock brake system actuation.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS:
The present invention is directed to wheel speed sensing device for vehicle with
antilock brake system. Now, reference may be made to fig. 1 wherein antilock

braking system comprises of wheel speed sensors (S), modulator unit (M) and

control unit (1). Said wheel speed sensor (S) for each wheel of vehicle and '
modular unit (M) of antilock braking system are connected to the control unit
of antilock braking system (1). The antilock braking system is provided in;
connection with wheel speed sensing device (WSSD). Said wheel speed sensing
device (WSSD) comprising of a connector (2) connected to a data acquisition
system (DAS) (3). The connector (2) is electrically designed to be connected to
the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) of anti lock brake system (1) of the vehicle.
Said connector (2) retrieves the same wheel pulse signals going to Electronic
Control Unit (ECU) of the brake system (1) in real time. Said signals are
forwarded to the data acquisition system as analog input for processing. The
wheel speed pulse signals are processed through said data acquisition system
to generate digital output, which is real time wheel speed of all wheels of
vehicle.
The wheel speed data from the data acquisition system (DAS) can be analyzed
in graphical form (as shown in fig. 2) by means of a microprocessor such as
computer (4). The data acquisition system (DAS) is provided in communication
with the computer.
The wheel speed sensing device (WSSD) is light weight and compact unit that
can be easily connected to the ABS unit of the vehicle to obtain the wheel speed
of all wheels. This is further used in several vehicle development testing. Some
of the applications are given hereinbelow:-
1. ABS development testing.
2. Measurement of slip of each wheel.
3. Validation of Wheel Speed Sensor performance.
4. Measurement of the slip of drive shaft.
5. Validation of added functionalists of ABS like Electronic Brake-force
Distribution and Engine Drag Control.
Advantages of wheel speed sensing device (WSSD) are as follows:-
1. Cost effective.
2. No need of mounting external sensors.
3. Unaffected functionality in wet condition.
4. Less vehicle development cost.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications,
adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments
employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within
the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the
following claims: -
WE CLAIM
1. Wheel speed sensing device for vehicle with antilock brake system
comprising of a connector connected to a data acquisition system
wherein said connector is electrically connected to antilock braking
system of the vehicle for retrieving wheel pulse signals.
2. Wheel speed sensing device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the connector
is electrically designed to be electrically connected to the anti lock brake
system of the vehicle.
3. Wheel speed sensing device as claimed in claim 2, wherein said
connector retrieves the same wheel pulse signals going to Electronic
Control Unit (ECU) of the brake system in real time, which is forwarded
to data acquisition system (DAS).
4. Wheel speed sensing device as claimed in claim 3, wherein said wheel
pulse signals are processed through the data acquisition system to
generate real time wheel speed of all wheels of vehicle.
5. Wheel speed sensing device as claimed in claim 4, wherein the real time
wheel speed of said wheels can be analysed by means of a
. microprocessor connected to the data acquisition system (DAS).
6. Wheel speed sensing device as claimed in any of the preceding claims,
wherein the device is associated with the advantageous features and
several applications such as herein described.
7. Wheel speed sensing device for vehicle with antilock brake system
substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying
drawings.
