"An Improved Compression Ignition Engine"

Abstract: 1. An improved compression ignition engine pump / generator comprising: a compression ignition engine having two inlets in the cylinder head of said engine, one inlet is connected to LPG / CNG cylinder through a valve and a vaporizer, and the other inlet is connected to the diesel tank through a fuel injector and a regulator for regulating the flow of diesel to the cylinder head, the arrangement between said inlets being such that at the time of starting the engine the diesel is allowed to flow through the cylinder head and thereafter the flow of diesel is regulated by means of said regulator to minimum and the other inlet connected to LPG / CNG is simultaneously opened through said valve to allow LPG / CNG to enter into cylinder head for combustion and the minimum flow of diesel also acts as a lubricant for moving parts of the cylinder head.

Specification

This invention relates to an improved compression ignition engine pump / generator operating on LPG /CNG.
BACKGROUND
Existing compression ignition engine pump / generator operate with diesel and causes air pollution, more running cost and noise pollution.
The object of this invention is to reduce air pollution, running cost and noise pollution by operating the compression ignition engine pump / generator with LPG / CNG and diesel (dual fuel).
To achieve the said objective this invention provides an improved compression
ignition engine pump / generator comprising:
a compression ignition engine having two inlets in the cylinder head of said engine,
one inlet is connected to LPG / CNG cylinder through a valve and a vaporizer, and the other inlet is connected to the diesel tank through a fuel injector and a regulator for regulating the flow of diesel to the cylinder head,
the arrangement between said inlets being such that at the time of starting the engine the diesel is allowed to flow through the cylinder head and thereafter the flow of diesel is regulated by means of said regulator to minimum and the other inlet connected to LPG / CNG is simultaneously opened through said valve to allow LPG / CNG to enter into cylinder head for combustion and the minimum flow of diesel also acts as a lubricant for moving parts of the cylinder head.
The inlet connected to LPG is provided in the filtered air passage of the engine
The said valve is a shut-off valve.
A fuel pump is provided between the diesel tank and the regulator.
The LPG / CNG cylinder is connected to shut-off valve by a rubber hosing.
A regulator to regulate the diesel fuel is provided between the diesel tank, fuel pump and the fuel injector.
A pump or a generator is connected to the output of the engine for operating said pump or generator.
The said pump is an agricultural pump or water-lifting pump.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows the block diagram of the improved compression ignition engine pump / generator operating on LPG / CNG, according to this invention.
Figure 2 shows the two inlets in the cylinder head for providing LPG / CNG gas and the diesel in the cylinder head of the engine, according to this invention.
Referring to the drawings, (1) shows the LPG / CNG cylinder connected to the vaporizer (4) through pressure regulator (2) with a hose (T). The said vaporizer (4) is connected to the first inlet (8) of the cylinder head (5) through a shut off valve (3). The second inlet (6) of the cylinder head (5) is connected to the diesel
tank (K) through a pump (P) and the regulator (7) for regulating the diesel to the cylinder head (5). The fuel injector (not shown) is provided in the inlet (6). A pump (P) is provided just after the diesel tank for pumping the diesel to the fuel injector in the inlet (6). It may be seen that the inlet (8) is provided in the filter air inlet. The output of the engine is connected to either a pump (AP) or the generator (G). The said pump (AP) can be either an agricultural pump or water-lifting pump.
To start the compression ignition engine pump / generator diesel fuel is first injected to the cylinder head of the engine (5). The flow of the diesel is regulated through a regulator (7) to minimum, say one-fourth, and simultaneously open the gas cylinder (1). The gas passes through the vaporizer (4) and shut-off valve (3) to the inlet (8) of the cylinder head of the engine (5) for operating the engine. The minimum diesel fuel flow also acts as a lubricant for moving parts of cylinder head. In using the CNG or LPG gas, the air pollution, noise pollution and the running cost of the compression ignition engine pump/ generator is considerably reduced.
The total cost for converting the generator to dual fuel system will be around Rs. 4000/-, which is much cheaper than the system available in the market.
