Abstract: This invention relates to an improved cooling system for automobiles comprising of an adapter to mount water pipe with o-ring to absorb thermal and engine vibration loads.
FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to an improved cooling system employed in automobiles to keep engine temperature to optimum level. This invention particularly relates to joint of water pipe with engine in the cooling system.
PRIOR ART
Cooling system consists of radiator, water pump, water pipe and hoses connected with components like reservoir tank and thermostat.
Reference may be made to fig. 1 and 2. In a cooling system, the water pipe is connected to engine through a cap and hose which acts as a flexible coupling between pipe and cylinder block. Flexible joint is costly and bulkier due to more no of parts. In few vehicles O ring type joint is also used for the same location. O ring type joint requires special machining in cylinder block in cross direction along with extra boss in cylinder block for maintaining position of the O ring. This requires complicated shape of cylinder block. Further, modification in machining line of cylinder block is required so as to accommodate the O ring.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The primary object of the present invention is to provide an improved cooling system which overcomes disadvantages associated with the prior art.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved cooling system which is cost effective.
Further object of the present invention is to provide an improved cooling system which is light in weight.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an improved cooling system which is efficient.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided an improved cooling system for automobiles comprising of an adapter to mount water pipe with o-ring to absorb thermal and engine vibration loads.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows : conventional cap type design.
Fig. 2 shows : conventional O ring type design.
Fig. 3 shows: O ring type design of the present invention.
Fig. 4 shows: sectional view of the present invention.
DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENT INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS:
The present invention discloses an improved cooling system employed in automobiles (as shown in fig. 3 & 4) comprising of aluminium adapter to mount water pipe with O ring having flexibility to take thermal and engine vibration loads. Since this part is made up of aluminium, the weight of the system is lesser compared to conventional designs. Additionally, machining in cylinder block can be avoided.
Salient features of the invention over prior art
1. No special machining is required in cylinder block for mounting O-ring.
2. Reduction in weight of cylinder block due to absence of O-ring in block and elimination of boss.
3. Reduction in the cost of water pipe due to non flange type of design.
4. Intake of production variation and minor vibrations due to engine by O-ring joint.
5. Reduction of no. of parts compared to cap type of design.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the following claims:-
WE CLAIM:
1. An improved cooling system for automobiles comprising of an adapter to mount water pipe with o-ring to absorb thermal and engine vibration loads.
2. An improved cooling system for automobiles as claimed in claim 1, wherein the adapter is made of preferably Aluminium, which results in lighter weight of the system.
3. An improved cooling system for automobiles as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein machining in cylinder block can be avoided.
4. An improved cooling system for automobiles as claimed in any of the preceding claims, comprising of various features such as herein described.
5. An improved cooling system for automobiles substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
