Specification

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention generally relates to lifting of cutting chips from lathe and
horizontal/vertical machines. More particularly, the invention relates to an
improved device for bundling and loading machine-generated chips for safe
gripping and lifting by a crane.
The invention further relates to a process of bundling and loading machine
generated hips for disposal in a device adaptable to a crane.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In all machine shops, the machines remove extra material from work-pieces to
achieve required dimensions by using cutting tools. In this process, scrap
material is generated on regular basis in the shape of cutting chips. These
cutting chip bundles are collected and initially stored adjacent to open spaces
around the machine. Subsequently, the large accumulation of the scrap materials
is loaded on a dispatch trolley for recycling.
One of the major disadvantages in the existing disposal system is that the chip
materials are lighter in weight with a huge volume. Further, gripping of such
materials is quite difficult in the absence of self-weight and irregular shape.

Accordingly, the overhead crane and operator are engaged for a longer time,
because making a balanced and secured chips bundle takes longer time. In
spite of material bundling, the chips fall and spread out all over the floor, leading
to occasional accident.
Sometimes, the sling comes out from the steel rod ends and the chips bundles
under semi-lifted position fall down and damage man and machine. The entire
system is therefore risk-prone making the process time consuming under
utilization of man/equipment and less productivity.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
It is therefore an object of the present invention to propose an improved device
for bundling and loading machine generated chip for safe gripping and lifting by
a crane which eliminates the disadvantages of prior art.
Another object of the invention is to propose an improved device for bundling
and loading machine generated chips for safe gripping and lifting by a crane,
which reduces the Crane and manpower engaged time.
A still another object of the invention is to propose an improved device for
bundling and loading machine generated chips for safe gripping and lifting by a
crane, which eliminates the possibility of accident during the lifting process.

Yet another object of the invention is to propose an improved device for bundling
and loading machine generated chips for safe gripping and lifting by a crane,
which is enabled to handle large sized bundles and reduce repetition of lifting
cycle.
A further object of the invention is to propose a process for bundling and loading
machine generated chips for disposal in a device adaptable to a crane.
A still further object of the invention is to propose an improved device for
bundling and loading machine-generated chips for safe gripping and lifting by a
crane, which is user-friendly, simple, cost-effective and long lasting.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Accordingly, there is provided an improved device for bundling and loading
machine generated chips for safe gripping and lifting by a crane comprising:
a shaped metal plate (c) having at least three threaded holes E1, E2, E3)
substantially at central portion of the plate (c), at least three eye bolts fixed with
washers along the peripheral face of the plate (c) to allow free movement of
corresponding number of lifting arms (A1, B1 C1); the lifting arms (A1, B1, C1)
upon engagement with corresponding threaded holes (E1, E2, E3), an eye each
fixed at a proximal end of the upper portion of the arms; a bracket (F) including

a plate (G) welded on the reverse side of the plate (c) with a bush (H) fixed to
the bracket (F) which allowing a connection between the lifting arms (A1, B1, C1)
and said three eye bolts; one each first rod number (A2 B2, C2) welded
substantially at 90° angle at the distal end of the lifting arms (A1, B1, C1); one
each second rod member (A3, B3, C3) welded at 45° angle with the first rod
members (A2 B2, C2), the first rod members (A2, B2, C2) being operable at the
time of release of the arms (A1, B1, C1) upon completion of loading of the chips.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Figure 1 - shows a schematic diagram showing two sides of the chip-lifting
device according to the invention.
Figure 2 - shows a photographic view of the device of figure 1.
DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
As shown in figure 1, the chips bundling and loading device comprises a round
plate (c) with threaded holes (E1, E2, E3) in the center portion. On the plate face
portion, three eye bolts are provided and fixed by using washer and nut, for free
movement of at least three lifting arms (A1/B1/C1).

At the proximal end of upper side of the lifting arms (A1/B1/C1) an eye is
provided. After engagement of the lifting arms !(A1, B1 C1) in the threaded
holes (E1, E2, E3), the open portion of the lifting arms are closed by welding.
On the reverse side of the lifting arms, bracket (F) is welded with a plate (G) to
strengthen the bracket (F).
At the distal end of the arms one each first rod member (A2 B2, C2) is welded at
90°, the first rod members (A2 B2, C2) is further welded o one each second rod
member (A3, B3, C3) a 45° angle. On the other side of the plate, a bush (H) is
welded which is fitted in the bracket (F) of the arms (A1/B1/C1) so as to connect
the lifting arms with the plate eye bolts for free movement of the arms
(A1/B1/C1) and A2, B2, C2).
A stopper is also provided for the second rod members (A2, B2, C2), which are
used at the time of releasing the arm from chips bundle (when the chips are
loaded in the trolley by the crane).
According to the invention, the crane slings are firstly engaged to the plate
center eye (d) bolt to lift the device on the center of the chips bundle. Then, all
the three arms (A1/B1/C1) are first inserted in the chips bundle periphery
maintaining equal distance followed by insertion of the three first rod members
(A2, B2, C2).

The lifting of the chips bundle is started soon as the arms getting load as per
gravity force, and upon loading, the loaded chip is clamped by the first and
second rod members (A1, B1, C1; A2, B2 C2) including the stopper.
The device upon reaching the loading trolley, the operator releases the first rod
arms (A2, B2, C2).

WE CLAIM:
1. An improved device for bundling and loading a machine generated chips
for safe gripping and lifting by a crane comprising :
