Abstract: An improved drive line for pick and carry type cranes comprising the reduction gear box mounted in front of the rear axle and shaft 2 is completely eliminated and the input from the reduction gear box is put directly into the rear axle.
Field of Invention;
The present invention relates to an improved drive line mechanism on the Pick
and Carry type cranes. It describes an improved transmission mechanism
through a modified location of the reduction gear box in the cranes. In the
modified set-up the reduction gear box is mounted in front of the rear axle as a
separate unit after the shaft. The basic advantages that are obtained by such a
combination are that along with the weight reduction the separate shaft is not
required and better noise, vibrations and harshness (NVH) characteristics are
obtained.
Background of the Invention:
Traditionally, in the pick and carry type cranes the transmission drive lines are
of the geometries shown in Figure 1.
The gear box is connected with the engine through clutches. The output of the
gear box is fed to the rear axle through two shafts (S1 and S2) and the reduction
gear box mounted in between the two shafts as shown.

Description of Invention
According to the present invention there is provided an improved drive line
for pick and carry type cranes comprising the reduction gear box
mounted in front of the rear axle and shaft 2 is completely eliminated and the
input from the reduction gear box is put directly into the rear axle.
There is a weight reduction in the drive line system.
There is better noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics of the
system.
Box chassis can be used for the section rather than the L- or T- chassis. Being of
the highest strength the same capacity of the Liftall is achieved with smaller
weight of the machine.
In this invention, the reduction gear box is mounted in front of the rear axle and
shaft 2 is completely eliminated. The input from the reduction gear box is put
directly into the rear axle. The modified drive line is shown in Figure 2.
Figure 2 shows Improved transmission drive line in Pick and carry cranes with
new location of reduction gear box
The reduction gear box is directly connected with the rear axle engine and the
shafdt 2 is eliminated. The overall efficiency of the transmission system is
improved.
Advantages(Benefit) of present Invention:
Inter alia the advantages include as under:-
The present invention relates to an improved drive line mechanism on the Pick
and Carry type cranes. That the advantages of the invention are as follows:
(i) Additional shaft (Shaft 2) is not required
(ii) There is a weight reduction in the drive line system
(iii) Better noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics of the
system;
(iv) Box chassis can be used for the section rather than the L- or T-
chassis. Being of the highest strength the same capacity of the Liftall
is achieved with smaller weight of the machine.
WE CLAIM:
1. An improved drive line for pick and carry type cranes comprising the
reduction gear box mounted in front of the rear axle and shaft 2 is completely
eliminated and the input from the reduction gear box is put directly into the rear
axle.
2. An improved drive line for pick and carry type cranes as claimed in claim
1, wherein there is a weight reduction in the drive line system.
3. An improved drive line for pick and carry type cranes as claimed in claim
1, wherein there is better noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics
of the system.
4. An improved drive line for pick and carry type cranes as claimed in claim
1, wherein box chassis can be used for the section rather than the L- or T-
chassis. Being of the highest strength the same capacity of the Liftall is
achieved with smaller weight of the machine.
