FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to an improved hood hinge arrangement for passenger car hood.
BACKGROUND
When a pedestrian collides with a vehicle, head injury is major cause of fatality in road accident. An adult head often collides with the rear end of the hood, and its surrounding areas such as the cowl, and the windshield area. Hood comprises of two thin sheet metal panels often gets deformed during the impact of adult head and absorbs the energy. But, seriousness of injury increases when head further comes in contact with rigid parts underneath the hood. In order to minimize the severity of injury to pedestrian due to impact with rigid parts of engine, hood is so designed that gap between the rigid part underneath the hood and Hood outer surface can be increased.
In conventional design, the gap has been increased significantly with rigid parts of the engine. However, in case of hood rear area where hood hinge (a rigid part) is located close to hood outer surface, a cost effective provision is not available. In prior art, arm of hood hinge is located inside (towards vertical longitudinal plane) whereas the bracket is located outside (away vertical longitudinal plane).

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of the present invention is to provide an improved hood hinge arrangement for passenger car hood which is simple and cost effective.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved hood hinge arrangement for passenger car hood which overcomes disadvantages associated with the prior art.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide an improved hood hinge arrangement for passenger car hood which decreases severity of the injury to the pedestrian head during the impact with hood rear area when struck by the front end of the vehicle.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided an improved hood hinge arrangement for passenger car hood comprising of arm, bracket and pivot wherein arm is provided for the mounting of hood, said bracket is mounted on the cowl box system and the pivot is provided for the rotation of arm of hinge on bracket.

Reference may be made to fig 1. and fig. 2 wherein following components have been indicated-
1. Arm of hood hinge,
2. Bracket of hood hinge,
3. Pivot,
4. Cowl Panel Side,
5. Cowl Panel Top.
The present invention discloses an improved hood hinge arrangement for passenger car hood comprising of arm (1), bracket (2) and pivot (3) wherein arm is provided for the mounting of hood, said bracket is mounted on the cowl box system and the pivot is provided for the rotation of arm of hinge on bracket.
Further, the arm of hood hinge is located outside (away from vertical longitudinal plane) and the bracket is located inside (towards vertical longitudinal plane) unlike prior art. The arm of hood hinge is located (outside the cowl box of the vehicle) in such a way that, sufficient space is available for the movement of arm during the impact of the pedestrian head. In this arrangement, cowl box packaging becomes more convenient and cost effective.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the following claims:-

WE CLAIM:
1. An improved hood hinge arrangement for passenger car hood comprising of arm, bracket and pivot wherein arm is provided for the mounting of hood, said bracket is mounted on the cowl box system and the pivot is provided for the rotation of arm of hinge on bracket.
2. An improved hood hinge arrangement as claimed in claim 1, wherein the arm of hood hinge is located outside (away from vertical longitudinal plane) and the bracket is located inside.
3. An improved hood hinge arrangement as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein the arm of hood hinge is located (outside the cowl box of the vehicle) in such a way that, sufficient space is available for the movement of arm during the impact of the pedestrian head.
4. An improved hood hinge arrangement for passenger car hood substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
