"An Improved Method Of Inspecting Presence Of Water In Cooling Section Of Bright Annealing Furnace For Tube Annealing."

Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved method of inspecting presence of water in cooling section of bright annealing furnace for tube annealing. A pipe (3) is connected to an extended pipe (4). The extended pipe (4) is connected to a drain valve outside the cooling zone so that a man on the ground floor can perform the inspection to check the presence of water in the cooling section.

Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to an improved method of inspecting
presence of water in cooling section of bright annealing furnace for tube
annealing.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Precision tube mills of tubes division has 6 ton (6T) Bright Annealing
furnace for tube annealing. The length of its cooling zone is 50.17 meters.
Cooling zone has 15 water jackets and each water jacket has outlet drain valve
at a height of 1 meter from the ground floor (below the water jacket). Presence
of water in cooling section is inspected every week by opening the drain valve.
Presence of even small quantity of water in cooling section affects the quality of
tube badly due to scale formation on tube. For this, operator has to go beneath
the bottom water jacket to handle the drain valve which is very unsafe. Each
drain valve is surrounded by water pipe lines and electrical cable tray. Thus the
process of discharging water from cooling zone is very unsafe.
Hence there exists a need for an improved method of inspecting presence
of water in cooling section of bright annealing furnace for tube annealing.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
Therefore, it is an object of the invention to propose an improved method
of inspecting presence of water in cooling section of bright annealing furnace for
tube annealing which can eliminate the disadvantages of prior art.
Another object of the invention is to propose an improved method of
inspecting presence of water in cooling section of bright annealing furnace for
tube annealing which is capable of completely eliminating the safety hazards of a
person working below the cooling zone of furnace.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Fig.1.: Shows a 6T furnace cooling zone and the place of inspection in the
prior arts and also according to invention.
Fig.2.: Shows the improved method according to the invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE
INVENTION
Fig. 1 shows the cooling zone cross section of 6 ton furnace (F). The
cooling zone (C) is surround by water jackets (5) from all sides. Cooling zone has
15 water jackets. Below the water jackets (5) there are plurality of water tubes
below which there is cooling zone roll. It is of utmost important that there is no
water present in cooling section which otherwise shall affect the quality of tube
very badly. Hence presence of water even of small quantity is checked regularly
in every weak. But the method of checking is very hazardous and unsafe. One
has to move one meter from the ground level below the water jacket at position
CD-
Fig. 2 shows the new improved method where a pipe (3) is connected to
the drain valve outside the cooling zone and the pipe (3) is connected to an
extended pipe (4) having 1" BSP thread at the end which is ultimately connected
to a drain valve (2). With the help of this drain valve (2), the inspection is carried
out without moving below the water jacket, for checking the presence of water
in the cooling section. This eliminates all the hazards of the prior art and makes
the operation very safe considering ergonomic and 6 directional (E, W, N, S, top
and bottom) hazards.
With the existing modification, operator need not go beneath the water
jacket. Instead of going inside the cooling zone, operator operates standing
outside on ground floor.

For this purpose, a 1" normal bore galvanized pipe (4) is used to extend
the drain line outside the furnace water jacket opposite of the drive side. Pipe
used are threaded end having thread 1" BSP. The pipe used is 112 meters long
and is disposed for the process of moisture evacuation from cooling zone.

WE CLAIM
1. An improved method of inspecting presence of water in cooling section
(C) of bright annealing furnace (F) for tube annealing comprising;
connecting water jacket to a pipe (3);
wherein the pipe (3) is connected to a pipe (4) extended towards a drain
valve (2) outside the cooling zone (C) when the extended pipe (4) is in threaded
joint with the drain valve (2) so that inspection to check the presence of water in
the cooling section is carried out without moving below the water jacket.
2. An improved method as claimed in claim 1, wherein pipe (4) is a
galvanized pipe of 1" bore having threaded end of 1" BSP and a length of 112
meters.
