Abstract: In the new design of guide stop (Ref Fig. No.02), main consideration were to increase circulation of oil, proper bonding of insulation material and to eliminate complicated machining. In the new design instead of machining from a heavy block of steel it is made from six thick steel plate, which is trimmed and bent at both the ends to get the required size and shape of pad stop, without any machining. The pad stop made by bending the steel plate is moulded with epoxy fiber glass insulation to make it a monolithic mass. There is no danger of knocking down of the insulating from pad stop during working condition.
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention is related to an improved top guide pad stop made of steel plates moulded in epoxy for insulating it from bearing housing of hydro generator. More particularly the invention is related to eliminate the complicated machining of a solid steel block to produce the pad stop and to avoid gluing of insulation of pad stops.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Top guide bearing is a main part of Hydro Generator which guides and supports the rotating shaft (Ref. Figure No. 03) and pad stop is provided to restrict the circumferential movement of guide pads. The guide pad stops are designed such that these do not create any obstruction in the oil circulation path inside the bearing housing, so as to maintain the temperature of guide bearing pads within permissible limits. Further, to eliminate the circulation of shaft currents through bearing pads and to avoid electrical pitting and damages of bearing pads, only Top guide bearing pads needs to be insulated from the bearing housing. This necessitates the provision of insulated guide pad stop for Top guide bearing of Hydro Generators.
In the existing, pad stop having extremely complicated shape is machined from a solid steel block number of machining operations to achieve desired shape of pad
stop. For insulating it from bearing housing, insulated strips are glued to it on both the sides of the guide pad stop (Ref Fig. No. 01).
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
It is therefore, an object of the present invention to propose an improved top guide pad stop made of steel plates moulded in epoxy for insulating it from bearing housing of hydro generator which is able (to restrict circular movement of guide pad and to keep the top guide pad insulated from bearing housing of Hydro Generators, which eliminates the disadvantages of existing system (i.e. complicated machining and gluing of insulation of pad stops).
Another object of the invention is to propose an improved top guide pad stop made of steel plates moulded in epoxy for insulating it from bearing housing of hydro generator which can improve oil circulations and to keep the uniform temperature gradient inside the housing.
A further object of the invention is to propose an improved epoxy moulded top guide pad stop which improves the bonding strength of insulation with pad stop to avoid any chance of knock down of the insulation from the pad stop during operation.
A still further objection of the present invention is to propose an improved epoxy moulded top guide pad stop which is easy to manufacture and less cost.
SUMMARY OF TH E INVENTION
In the new design of guide stop (Ref Fig.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
As shown in fig (2); the top guide pad stop comprising six mm thick bent plates and two inserts (2, 2) in assembled condition. The top guide pad stop is provided with two holes (3, 3) for inserting fastenable means, to be mounted with guide bearing support ring (5) shown in Fig 3. The stop guide pad moulded with epoxy fibre glass insulting material (4, 4) pad stop in assembled Fig: 3 shows a epoxy moulded pad stop in assembled condition with the guide bearing, support Ring (5).
WE CLAIM
1. An improved top guide pad stop made of steel plates moulded in epoxy for insulating it
from bearing housing of hydro generator, comprising:
- six mm thick steel plates assembled with a plurality of inserts (2, 2) for producing the
top guide pad stop;
Characterized in that,
- the said top guide being provided with two holes (3, 3) for inserting fastenable means
for mounting with guide bearing support ring (5) when the pad stop is made by
bending the steel plate and moulded with epoxy fibre glass insulation.
2. An improved top guide pad stop as claimed in claim 1, wherein he six mm thick steel plate
is trimmed and bent at both the ends for achieving the required size and shape of the pad
stop.
ABSTRACT
AN IMPROVED TOP GUIDE PAP STOP MADE OF STEEL PLATES MOULDED IN EPOXY FOR INSULATING IT FROM BEARING HOUSING OF HYDRO GENERATOR
An improved top guide pad stop made of steel plates moulded in epoxy for insulating it from bearing housing of hydro generator consists of six mm thick steel plates is assembled with a plurality of inserts (2, 2). The top guide is provided with two holes (3, 3) for inserting fastenable means for mounting with guide bearing support ring (5). The pad stop is made by bending the steel plate and moulded with epoxy fibre glass insulation.
