FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to an improved parcel tray of vehicle to reduce visibility
of luggage.
BACKGROUND /PRIOR ART
Parcel tray is placed behind rearseat to provide coverage to luggage area, which
is also commonly called as tray.
According to one provision, slab surface(S) of the parcel tray is provided with a
pair of emboss (E) symmetrically placed with respect to each other as shown in
fig 1. The emboss acts as a resting surface for cushion (C). However uniform
gap can't be maintained between the tray and backdoor means (B) such as
backdoor trim/panel at the cushion area owing to protrusion of cushion.
In accordance with another prior art for which reference may be made to fig. 2
in which flat slab surface (Si) is assembled to a pair of symmetrically located
cushions (Ci). Here, the uniform gap can be maintained, but said gap between
the slab of tray and backdoor means is wider.
Thus, in existing design the parcel tray with cushion arrangement can't have
uniform clearance from backdoor means in cushion area and in case uniform
clearance is maintained, the gap is wider.
Therefore as a solution to the problem in case of tray slab surface with emboss,
following can be suggested:
T B (V- M--L HX - 3.Q -OS- -2B1S 1? ~ 3-2.
-3-
- The cushion resting surface (Trim line) is to be extended towards
backdoor surface with a smaller cushion therebetween leading to
inefficient flapping prevention as shown in fig. 3 indicating extended
cushion resting surface (Ei) and lesser vibrational damping capacity
Alternatively,
- Implementation of bigger sized cushion with wider gap between parcel
tray and backdoor means as in fig. 4. This gap results in exposure of
luggage from back window glass due to backward placement of
trimline of tray.
Further disadvantages can be listed hereinbelow:
-' Degradation of aesthetic.
- In case of larger extension of emboss, it involves chances of
interference of cushion with roof silencer leading to wearing out of
silencer. This subsequently demands maintenance thereof which
increases incidence of cushion popout. . .
In view of the above, there is a requirement to devise a novel parcel tray which
can efficiently serve the purpose by addressing the issues of prior art.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of this invention is to propose an improved parcel tray of vehicle to
reduce visibility of luggage through Closed back Door window or side window
(herein after referred to as visibility).
Another object of this invention is to propose an improved parcel tray of vehicle.
to reduce visibility of luggagewhich overcomes shortcomings of prior art.

Further object of this invention is to propose ah improved parcel tray of vehicle
to reduce visibility of luggage which maintains minimum and uniform
clearance from backdoor m e a n s .
Yet another object of this invention is to propose an improved parcel tray of
vehicle to reduce visibility of luggage which enhances aesthetic.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided an improved parcel tray of vehicle
to reduce visibility of luggage comprising of a parcel tray, slab surface of which
is provided with atleast one' slot to accommodate cushion.

DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
The present invention makes a disclosure regarding an improved parcel tray of
vehicle which can perfectly conceal luggage area. In order to accomplish the
same, trim line of parcel tray (slab surface) is required to be extended as rear
as possible.
Now, reference may be made to fig. 5 wherein the tray comprises a single piece,
trimline (T) of which is extended towards backdoor rendering the tray wider
comparatively.
There is a necessity of gap between parcel tray (1) and backdoor means (2) so
as to accommodate inter-component allowances and cushions (3) which
prohibit vibrational moment of the parcel tray both in vertically upward (V) and
downward (D) direction. In the invention, the size of cushion is required to be
bigger in size comparatively owing to bigger size of the tray which causes
higher vibrational movement. The bigger cushion can effectively damp the
vibration in dynamic condition of vehicle.
Further, it reduces the noise and also prevents articles on the tray from
jumping into the passenger area in vehicle running condition.
The cushion can form any shape without restricting to the shape in the figure
which is given as an exemplary embodiment. Rear elastic cushions are meant
to prevent the looseness of the tray in dynamic condition of vehicle. It is in
interference with backdoor means such as backdoor trim/panel which prevents
. the flapping of tray.
-6-
In order to accommodate bigger cushion and achieve uniform and minimum
clearance between tray and backdoor means in the visible zone from backdoor
glass, cushion receiving surface i.e. slab surface of tray is required to be
designed.
Hence, the slab surface of the tray. (4) is provided with atleast one slot (5)
constituting a depression and acting as cushion receiving surface. Thus to
ensure uniform clearance along the slab longitudinally (width direction of
vehicle), slot is placed in cushion resting area. So that bigger cross sectional
cushion can be assembled in the same area resulting in efficient flapping
prevention and minimized gap between parcel tray and backdoor means.
Thus, the above provision enables maintenance of uniform and optimum gap
throughout the slab.
The tray is hinged to a supporting means through a hinge (6), in which the
supporting means may include quarter trim of body panel, parcel tray holder.
According to another embodiment, the slot can be in plural. In case of even
number of slots, they can be symmetrical/asymmetrical. In case of odd number
of slots, the same can be same/different in respect of shape, size and
placement.
The radii (Ri, R2) of slot is smooth as best seen in fig. 6..
The tray is made of for example plastic, wood stock and by the method of
thermoforming. The cushion is made of any energy absorbing material such as

rubber. The materials/method are mehtioned as example without restricting
scope of the invention to the same.
Thus, other materials/method readily apparent to a person skilled in the art
are understood to be within purview of the invention.
