An Improved Simulated Crash Test System

Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, a simulated crash test system comprises ; a sled trolley, an intrusion actuating mechanism, a stopping mechanism, a pivoted arms connected to the firewall panel and cross car beam (CCB), wherein said intrusion actuating mechanism further comprises; plurality of support members rigidly fixed to the sled trolley, a moving plunger actuated by a reaction pad which is fitted to a rigid wall, when the sled trolley is interacting with said stopping mechanism, said moving plunger is actuated by the reaction pad. The said moving plunger further actuates pivoted arms connected to the firewall panel & cross car beam (CCB). Thus when the said sled trolley is being decelerated, the CCB & firewall are intruding in the passenger compartment due to the plunger movement. The geometrical positioning of plunger, its guide, pendulum pivots controls the level and timings of the intrusions during a simulated crash test

PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner
in which it is to be performed.

FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to simulated crash test system and more particularly it relates to an improved simulated crash test system for simulating firewall and cross car beam (CCB) intrusions in automobile.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Crash tests are performed on vehicles to assess the potential threats of occupant injuries in real life world. In order to optimize the safety system performance for reducing the risk of occupant injury, simulated crash tests are performed on a test system known as "sled testing". Sled test consists of a trolley which is accelerated to required test speed and stopped by a stopping mechanism to generate a predetermined deceleration pattern called as "crash pulse". Such sled testing generates the required inertia loading on the test components attached to it. Additionally High speed actuation mechanisms are also installed on the sled trolley or on its periphery to generate dynamic intrusions during the test for example for control pedals, dashboards, firewall etc. (jenerally these actuators use complicated actuating mechanisms, either hydraulic or electromechanical which are very costly and difficult for troubleshooting.
OBJECTS OF INVENTION
The main object of the present invention is to provide an improved simulated crash test system
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved simulated crash test system which provides dynamic intrusions of firewall & cross car beam (CCB) in a sled test.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved simulated crash test system wherein a dynamic intrusion is actuated mechanically.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an improved simulated crash test system which is simple in construction & cost effective.

STATEMENT OF INVENTION
Accordingly the present invention discloses a stimulated crash test system comprising,
at least one sled trolley configured for mounting vehicle body shell;
at least one stopping mechanism mounted on rigid wall configured for stopping the sled trolley;
an intrusion actuating mechanism with actuating plunger is provided to generate dynamic intrusions of fire wall and cross car beam of vehicle,
at least one auxiliary actuating means provided to actuate the actuating plunger, wherein said intrusion actuating mechanism comprises; plurality of support members rigidly fixed to said sled trolley, an actuating plunger housed in plunger guide attached to said rigid frame, a follower link configured to be actuated by said actuating plunger, a guide rail provided to house vertical extension member, a pendulum arm configured to be pivoted at its one end to one of the support member and other end is pivotally connected to said follower link through connecting link which is provided to actuate said pendulum arm, an actuating link is configured to be pivotally connected to said pendulum arm at one end and at other end to cross car beam provided to simulate intrusion of cross car beam in vehicle crash test, a firewall support arm pivotally mounted at one end on said sled trolley provided for simulating firewall intrusion in vehicle crash test.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
According to the present invention,
Figure-01 shows a side view of a sled test set up in accordance with this invention. Figure-02 detailed side view of the dynamic intrusion mechanism in accordance with this invention.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
In accordance with the present invention, an improved simulated crash test system comprises ; a sled trolley (1) on which a vehicle bodyshell (3) is mounted, a stopping mechanism (2) mounted on a rigid wall (6), an intrusion actuating mechanism (4)
