Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to an improved tooling for bearing cap face and crank half bore milling.
BACKGROUND/PRIOR ART OF INVENTION
Conventionally the bearing cap face and crank half round bore milling operation of the cylinder block (Fig. 1) was done by two different milling operations namely bearing cap face milling (operation no. 1) and crank half bore milling (operation no.2).
Reference may be made to fig. 2, wherein section A1 refers to bearing cap face. Machining of the bearing cap face is carried out by milling operation. This is as follows:-
Operation No. 1
Bearing cap face milling operation was being done with the help of the milling cutter as shown in the fig. 3.
Steps of operations:
Step- 1: Component as shown in figure -1 Loaded manually/automatically on machine fixture of machine no. 1.
Step-2: Component as mentioned in step-1 is clamped in the fixture of machine no. 1.
Step-3: Milling operation is done on section A1 by tool as shown in Fig. 3.
Further, section A2 refers to half round face. Machining of the same is carried out by crank half round bore milling operation.
This is given hereinbelow:-
Operation No. 2
Crank bore half round milling operation was being done with the help of the milling cutter as shown in the fig. 4.
Steps of operations:
Step-1: Component as shown in figure -1 Loaded manually/automatically on machine fixture of machine no. 2.
Step-2: Component as mentioned in step-1 is clamped in the fixture of machine no.2.
Step-3: Half round milling operation is done on section A2 by tool as shown in Fig. 4.
The drawbacks associated with the aforesaid known art are as follows:-
- More time consuming operation.
- Expensive
- Short life span.
- High running cost of operation.
- Requirement of more energy for operation.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The primary object of the present invention is to provide an improved tooling for bearing cap face and crank half bore milling which overcomes disadvantages associated with the prior art.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved tooling for bearing cap face and crank half bore milling in which two operations can be carried out simultaneously in a single set up on a single machine.
Further object of the present invention is to provide an improved tooling for bearing cap face and crank half bore milling which is cost effective.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide an improved tooling for bearing cap face and crank half bore milling wherein operation cost is reduced.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an improved tooling for bearing cap face and crank half bore milling which is energy efficient.
Yet another further object of the present invention is to provide an improved tooling for bearing cap face and crank half bore milling, life span of which is long.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided an improved tooling for bearing cap face and crank half bore milling comprising of a novel bearing cap face milling cutter accommodating a novel crank bore half round milling cutter.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and wherein:

Fig. 2 shows: section A1 and A2- profile of the machining area of the cylinder block
Fig. 3 shows: conventional bearing cap face milling cutter.
Fig. 3' shows: bearing cap face milling cutter of the present invention.
Fig 4 shows: conventional crank bore half round milling cutter.
Fig. 4' shows: crank bore half round milling cutter of the present invention.
Fig. 5 shows: cutter of the present invention for bearing cap face and crank half bore.
Fig. 6 shows: insert of the present invention for bearing cap face and crank half bore milling.
DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS;
The present invention discloses an improved tooling for bearing cap face and crank half bore milling. The improved tooling comprising of a bearing cap face milling cutter (as shown in fig. 3') holding a crank bore half round milling cutter (as shown in fig. 4').
The bearing cap face milling cutter is provided with a plurality of inserts along its circumference at top portion. The insert is having novel construction as shown in fig. 6.
The crank bore half round milling cutter is also provided with a plurality of inserts at its top portion. Said insert is having novel construction as shown in fig. 6. The cutter is required to be provided in inclined position with respect to the feed direction while machining the workplace.
During machining of the workpiece, the insert is not required to bear whole of the load as the load is distributed. This leads to longer life span of the insert. Further, the insert carries out cutting of the cylinder body effectively. It is also energy efficient.
Steps of operations:
Step -1 : Component as shown in figure-1 Loaded manually/automatically on machine fixture of machine no. 1.
Step -2: Component as mentioned in step-1 is clamped in the fixture of machine no.1.
Step -3: Half round milling operation on section A2 8B Milling operation on section A1 is done simultaneously with combination tool as shown in fig. 5.
Thus, in the instant invention two operations, namely operation 1: bearing cap face milling and operation 2: crank half bore milling are combined into a single operation. This consumes less time thereby saving time. Further, it is cost effective as compared to the known art. Again, operation cost is reduced.
Advantageous Features
- Two operations can be done simultaneously in a single set up on a single machine.
- Reduction in cost of machine for crank half bore milling operation.
- Reduction in running cost of operation.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the following claims:-

WE CLAIM;
1. An improved tooling for bearing cap face and crank half bore milling comprising of a novel bearing cap face milling cutter accommodating a novel crank bore half round milling cutter.
2. An improved tooling as claimed in claim 1, wherein the bearing cap face milling cutter is provided with a plurality of inserts along its circumference at top portion.
3. An improved tooling as claimed in claim 2, wherein the insert is novel in construction as shown in fig. 3 and 6.
4. An improved tooling as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein said crank bore half round milling cutter is provided with a plurality of inserts at its top portion.
5. An improved tooling as claimed in claim 4, wherein said insert is novel in construction as shown in fig. 4 and 6.
6. An improved tooling as claimed in claim 4 or 5, wherein the cutter is provided in inclined position with respect to the feed direction during machining.
7. An improved tooling for bearing cap face and crank half bore milling substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
