Abstract: AN IN VITRO MODEL FOR LUNG INFECTIONS The present disclosure provides an in vitro model for lung infection, the model comprising a hydrogel matrix embedded with a plurality of mammalian cells and at least one bacterial pathogen, in contact with a culture medium, wherein the hydrogel matrix is a matrix of crosslinked polymer defining a plurality of pores, wherein the mammalian cells are cultured in the culture medium for infection by the bacterial pathogen, for a predetermined period of time, wherein the mammalian cells are capable of differentiating in the presence of the pathogen, wherein the mammalian cells are selected from macrophage precursor cells, or macrophage precursor cells and macrophage cells.
