Abstract: The present invention relates to an information retrieval system adapted to provide information related to newspapers and magazines to plurality of subscribers over communication network, said comprises: at least one input device for inputting a request for information by the subscriber; at least one server at the service provider side, each said server consists of : a plurality of databases containing information related to newspapers and magazines, subscriber identification means for identification of the registered user to allow him for accessing of the database; processor unit for processing a request made by the subscriber, memory unit which is coupled with said processing unit, said memory unit consists of search engine, subscriber interface means and means for modifying the databases, wherein said at least one input devices is connected to said service providers server via a communication media & in that as per the request made by the subscriber said processor unit fetch said information from the databases using search engine and provide it to the subscriber.

Field of Invention:
The present invention relates to information retrieval system and method. More particularly it relates to an information retrieval system adapted to provide information related to newspapers and magazines to plurality of subscribers over communication network and method thereof.
Prior Art:
Information is the backbone of today's information society. All human activities are dependent on information. Information has become so vital for all processes, without which any human activity can hardly take place. Among the several kinds of information, current information is highly demanded and needed by various research groups and individuals. Newspapers and magazines are prominent sources for the current information. They bring to the readers the global information by overcoming all geographical limits.
Information democracy and right to information are hot topics of discussion among the information professionals today. Newspapers and magazines contribute a lot to these issues. In any event, in today's modern world there is a great need to correlate and obtain up-to-date information concerning various topics as well as relationships and characteristics between topics and society. The amount of information generated each day by newspapers and magazines throughout India is alone is massive.
Nowadays many newspapers and magazines are mainly available in printed form. In today's modern computer world people hardly get the time to read the printed

newspapers. But if these newspapers and magazines are available online on internet then it will become easy for most of the people to go through it. Hence many newspapers are available online. But the limitation of this facility is that it is limited to only particular newspaper. It doesn't cover all newspapers & magazines. Also search facility provided to subscriber in such system is not adequate and subscriber-friendly to meet his requirement.
Therefore there is a need of an efficient information management system which will store the information of all available newspapers & magazine and will easily be accessible by the readers.
Objects of the Invention:
It is the object of the present invention to provide a system for solving the problem related to data management as discussed above in the prior art.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a system and method of the information retrieval which provides a sophisticated high quality digital imaging services for the digital record keeping of information related to newspapers and magazines to plurality of subscribers over communication network.
Another object of the invention is to provide a system and method of the information retrieval which provides a subscriber friendly and precise search of information related to newspapers and magazines to plurality of subscribers over communication network.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a system and method of the information retrieval which is customized application to carry out day-to-day task swiftly.

Still another object of the invention is to provide a system and method of the information retrieval which provides fast and easy accessibility of document by the means of a powerful search engine.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a system and method of the data retrieval which provides security and Safe Storage of images from tampering and misuse, also provides disaster recovery capability.
Accordingly there is provided an information retrieval system adapted to provide information related to newspapers and magazines to plurality of subscribers over communication network, said system comprises:
at least one input device for inputting a request for information by the subscriber;
at least one server at the service provider side, each said server consists of: a plurality of databases containing information related to newspapers and magazines,
- subscriber identification means for identification of the registered user to allow
him for accessing of the databases;
processor unit for processing a request made by the subscriber,
- memory unit which is coupled with said processing unit, said memory unit
consists of search engine, subscriber interface means and means for modifying
the databases,
wherein said at least one input devices is connected to said service providers server via a communication media & in that as per the request made by the subscriber said processor unit fetch said information from the databases using search engine and provide it to the subscriber.
The input device of the system comprises: processing means for executing the codes being required for working of said input device; memory storage means for

storing said codes; input means for inputting the request by subscriber and displaying means to display the request made by subscriber and the information obtained by the subscriber from databases through said server.
According to invention the subscriber identification means consists of subscriber database consisting of the information related to subscriber, more particularly subscriber's identification for identifying the validity of the subscriber.
The search engine provides subscriber to search the information on the basis of following criteria: Date, month and year of newspapers and magazines, Article wise search, Name of newspapers and magazines, Keyword search and Advance search.
The subscriber interface means facilitates connection to databases and helps subscribers define searches for databases. The means for modifying the subscriber database and database containing information related to newspapers and magazines provide facility for modification more particularly addition, deletion and editing of data by service provider.
According to another embodiment of the invention a method is provided for retrieving information from a database containing information related to newspapers and magazines. This method comprising steps of: logging in by subscriber in to the information server provided by the service provider; checking validity of subscriber by said subscriber identification means; inputting a request for information by the subscriber; fetching of the requested information from said databases by said processor unit of the server; and displaying said information on the displaying means.
In this method inputting, fetching and displaying steps runs if subscriber is registered subscriber. This registration of the subscriber is checked by subscriber identification means. Also this method comprises modification of information in to

the databases by server using said means for modifying the databases. The modification includes addition, deletion and editing of data in to the databases by server using said means for modifying the database.
Inputting step in the method comprises entering search criteria into the search engine and search engine finds relevant document to subscriber queries and evaluate the matching results and sort them according to relevance. Brief description of the drawings:

and 7. Detailed Description of the invention:
The above, and the other objects, features & advantages of invention will become apparent from following description read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
Refereeing to figure 1, it shows an information retrieval system adapted to provide information related to newspapers and magazines to plurality of subscribers over communication network in accordance to present invention. As shown in figure 1 system for information retrieval comprises at least one input device for inputting a request by the subscriber and at least one server at the service provider side.
The input device comprises processing means for executing the codes being required for working of said input device, memory storage means for storing said codes, input means such as keyboard for inputting the request by subscriber and displaying means to display the request made by subscriber and the information obtained by the subscriber from databases through said server.
The system of the present invention may include more than one server. Each server consists of processor unit, memory unit, plurality of databases containing information related to newspapers and magazines and subscriber identification means. The processor unit processes a request made by the subscriber. The validity

of the user is cheeked by the subscriber identification means. The subscriber identification means consists of subscriber database. The subscriber database mainly consists of the all information of the registered subscriber. The information consists of login id and password of the subscriber. Hence when subscriber will enter his subscriber name and password and if it matches with the data given in subscriber database the subscriber is the authenticated subscriber and eligible for retrieving the data.
The memory unit of the server is coupled with the processing unit. The memory unit consists of search engine, subscriber interface means and means for modifying the databases containing information related to newspapers and magazines and subscriber database. The input device is connected to service provider's server via a communication media. The communication media may include but not limited to telephone lines, cable lines, communication buses and satellite transmission.
The search engine provides various kinds of searches. The searches include simple search, topic wise search, keyword search and advanced search. The features of aforesaid searches will be discussed later. The search engine provides subscriber to search the information on the basis of various criteria. These criteria includes but not limited to Date, month and year of newspapers and magazines, Article wise search, Name of newspapers and magazines, Keyword search and Advance search.
The subscriber interface means helps subscriber define searches for databases. The technique includes one or more browser compatible applets, WebPages templates, subscriber interface elements, objects or control features or other programmatic objects or structures. Also there is a provision in the system to modify the subscriber database and the databases containing information related to newspapers and magazines. This is taken care by means for modifying the databases. The modification of database includes addition, deletion and editing of the data in the databases. The modification feature keeps the databases updated with the recent information.

Now refereeing to figures 2 shows the detailed system flow diagram in accordance to present invention. First of all it consists of login block being used by the subscriber for retrieving the data or by the service provider to modify the data in the databases. This login block is divided in to several sub blocks like data entry, search, view, print, fax and e-mail.
Now we will see the every block in details. The data entry block consists of means for modifying the databases. The means for modifying the databases consist of further blocks called add, delete and edit blocks. Addition block facilitates service provider to add the information into databases for keeping it updated. Deletion block facilitates service provider to delete the information from the database. For example if subscriber want to discontinue the service provided by the service provider then in such condition name of that subscriber will be deleted from the subscriber database. Edit block facilitates service provider to edit/modify the data from databases. Due to this service provider get opportunity to correct the errors in the databases and keep it updated.
The search block is divided in to further four blocks which covers the nature of search. These blocks includes simple search, topic wise search, keyword search and advance search. The system of the present invention provides both simple as well as advanced search. Subscriber can use any search as per his need. These search blocks are illustrated in greater details in figures 3 to 6. In all searches first user has to make the request for information and has to enter the search criteria in the search engine. Then search engine finds and fetch the relevant information from the databases and displayed it on the displaying means. The simple search is based on date and name of the newspaper or magazine. Topic wise search is based on the topic in which subscriber is interested. Keyword search includes search based on keywords. Advanced search is based on the date and name of newspaper, and the keyword. The keyword may include topic name or article name, editor name etc.

The view block as shown in figure 7 provides the subscriber to choose the option for the display of information. The information can be displayed in single as well as multi page format. In multi page format subscriber has option to select the number of pages which will be displayed at a time. Same is illustrated in flowchart form in figure 15.
As shown in figures 8, 9 and 10 the system of the present invention also provides the features of print, fax and email. By using these features subscriber can print the information which he has retrieved from the databases using a search engine. He can also fax as well as e-mail the information. In this way the system of the present invention facilitates the subscriber in choosing the outputting mode of the information.
Now we will see how data/information is retrieved from the plurality of database using the system of the present invention. Firstly the subscriber who wants the information has to make a request through the input means. For that purpose he has to first log in into the server of the service provider. For that subscriber first enter his subscriber name and identification code through input means. Then service provider checks for the validity of the subscriber. If the name and code of the subscriber matches with the data given in subscriber database server allows the subscriber to access the databases and if subscriber found invalid it displays the same on the displaying means and disallow the subscriber to further access. Then by using search engine subscriber can search for the data by any of the search method i.e. Simple search, topic wise search, keyword search or advance search. These search methods are illustrated in flowchart form in figures 11 and 14 respectively. Once the search engine found the appropriate data, same is fetched from the databases and displayed on the display.
Simple search is based on two parameters one is date of newspaper or magazine and second is name of the same. Once said parameters are entered in search engine the search engine with the help of processor means finds out relevant data and

fetch it from the databases and displayed it on displaying means. Same procedure is applicable in topic wise search in which instead of date and name, topic of the interest is given to search engine. The keyword search provides both match case search as well as whole word kind of search. Advanced search is the combination of simple search and key word search.

Since the online editions of newspapers and magazines are seamless, there is no need to cut paragraphs or quotes. A story can be as long as it can be, and features, related articles, maps and charts can be linked to it. They can also add technology such as full screen photos, videos, forums and polls that users can participate in. They open the way to upgrading the news with full screen photography and video,

while hugely enhancing the richness and the timeliness of the news. The sites of online newspapers and magazines also allow the users to browse and select stories and advertisements at their own time and place.
Online newspapers will attract users if they create a series of sites about the metropolitan region. Then the paper will act as a chamber of commerce. They also allow for discussion beyond the letter to the Editor page, for example, contact between journalists, editors and readers, and for relevant information regarding reader's preferences and choices.
Industrial Applicability:
Information retrieval system of the present invention find information related to newspapers and magazines to given criteria by matching text records (documents) against subscriber queries. A document retrieval system performs the following two tasks:
i. Find relevant documents to subscriber queries
ii. Evaluate the matching results and sort them according to relevance.
The present invention is not limited to the above described embodiments, and various changes may be made, if desired, without departing from the essence or spirit of the invention which can be read from the claims and the entire specification. All these changes are also intended to be within technical scope of the present invention.

WE CLAIM:
1. An information retrieval system adapted to provide information related to
newspapers and magazines to plurality of subscribers over communication
network, said system comprises:
at least one input device for inputting a request for information by the subscriber;
at least one server at the service provider side, each said server consists of: a plurality of databases containing information related to newspapers and magazines,
subscriber identification means for identification of the registered user to allow him ior accessing of the databases;
processor unit for processing a request made by the subscriber, memory unit which is coupled with said processing unit, said memory unit consists of search engine, subscriber interface means and means for modifying the databases,
wherein said at least one input devices is connected to said service providers server via a communication media & in that as per the request made by the subscriber said processor unit fetch said information from the databases using search engine and provide it to the subscriber.
2. The information retrieval system as claimed in claim 1 wherein each said
input device comprises:
processing means for executing the codes being required for working of
said input device;
memory storage means for storing said codes;
input means for inputting the request by subscriber and

displaying means to display the request made by subscriber and the information obtained by the subscriber from databases through said server.
The information retrieval system as claimed in claim 1 wherein said subscriber identification means consists of subscriber database consisting of the information related to subscriber, more particularly subscriber's identification for identifying the validity of the subscriber.
The information retrieval system as claimed in claim 1 wherein said search engine provides subscriber to search the information on the basis of following criteria:
Date, month and year of newspapers and magazines,
Article wise search
Name of newspapers and magazines
Keyword search
Advance search.
The information retrieval system as claimed in claim 1 wherein said subscriber interface means facilitates connection to databases and helps subscribers define searches for databases.
The information retrieval system as claimed in claim 1 wherein said means for modifying the subscriber database and database containing information related to newspapers and magazines provide facility for modification more particularly addition, deletion and editing of data by service provider.
A method for retrieving a information from a database containing information related to newspapers and magazines by using a system as claimed in claims 1 to 6, said method comprising steps of:

logging in by subscriber in to the information server provided by the service provider;
checking validity of subscriber by said subscriber identification means;
inputting a request for information by the subscriber;
fetching of the requested information from said databases by said processor unit of the server; and
displaying said information on the displaying means.
The method as claimed in claim 7 wherein said inputting, fetching and displaying steps runs if subscriber is registered subscriber.
The method as claimed in claim 8 wherein said registration of the subscriber is checked by subscriber identification means.
The method as claimed in claim 7 further comprises modification of information in to the databases by server using said means for modifying the database.
The method as claimed in claim 10 wherein modification includes addition, deletion and editing of data in to the databases by server using said means for modifying the database.
The method as claimed in claim 7 wherein inputting step comprises entering a search criteria into the search engine.

13. The method as claimed in claim 12 wherein search engine finds relevant document to subscriber queries and evaluate the matching results and sort them according to relevance.
14. An information retrieval system adapted to provide information related to newspapers and magazines to plurality of subscribers over communication network such as hereinbefore described and illustrated with reference to accompanying drawings.
