LARSEN & TOUBRO LIMITED, A COMPANY INCORPORATED UNDER THE COMPANIES ACT, 1956, WHOSE ADDRESS IS L&T HOUSE, BALLARD ESTATE, MUMBAI - 400 001, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA
THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION
PARTICULARLY DESCRIBES THE INVENTION AND THE MANNER IN WHICH IT IS TO BE PERFORMED.
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention generally relates to mounting assembly. More particularly, the present invention relates to a bracket for mounting a relay and an add-on block. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
A relay is operated electrically by a switch. Generally, an electromagnet is used to operate a switch mechanically. Relays are used where it is necessary to control a circuit by a low-power signal with complete electrical isolation between control and controlled circuits, or where several circuits must be controlled by one signal.
Usually, a contactor is assembled together with a relay. The relay is mounted on the contactor. A contactor is an electrically controlled switch used for switching a power circuit, similar to a relay except with higher current ratings. According to needs of a user, only a relay may be required to control a circuit by a lower power signal. During these instances, the issue arises as to how to assemble a relay.
At some instances, only the contactor would be assembled. At a later stage, the user may desire to install the relay separately along with the contactor; during these instances also it becomes difficult to mount the relay on the contactor at a particular orientation. Therefore, the said mounting of the relay on the contactor at a later stage may prove to be a complex and a costly affair.
Further, the relay and the contactor may require additional circuits for electricity distribution. For the same requirements, an add-on block may be installed with the relay or relay and the contactor in combination. One of the main features of the add-on block is
providing additional electric circuits for an existing bracket. Herein, the add-on block provides additional circuits to the relay and the contactor. However, when the add-block is installed at a later stage, i.e. after the installation of the relay in combination with the contactor or separate, expenses incurred for installing the same will be high.
Further, one of the precautions to be taken while installing a relay is to make sure the relay is separated from other circuits, in other words the relay should be isolated from electric circuits and electric components for a proper functioning of the same. In prior arts, there arise situations where the electric circuits of the relay come in contact with other circuits and electric components, thereby destroying or decreasing the efficiency of the entire bracket.
Therefore, in view of the above drawbacks, there is a need for an integrated bracket which overcomes the above mentioned problems.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
An objective of the invention is to provide a bracket for mounting a relay separately.
Another objective of the invention is to provide a bracket which will isolate the relay from other components.
Yet another objective of the invention is to provide a bracket that will firmly fix the relay and prevent displacement of the relay in all directions.
Yet another objective of the invention is to provide a bracket which facilitates in mounting an add-on block alongside the relay.
Accordingly, the present invention provides an integrated bracket for mounting a relay and an add-on block. The said bracket comprises a plurality of walls, the plurality of walls
includes a back wall, the back wall has a plurality of interlocking means for receiving the relay, a plurality of side walls are connected to the back wall, the plurality of side walls have locking projections, the locking projections are provided on opposite ends for locking the relay and at least one locking projection for mounting the add-on block in close proximity to the relay and a plurality of screw-holes are provided on the said locking projections for fastening the relay and the add-on block. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Reference will be made to embodiments of the invention, examples of which may be illustrated in the accompanying figures. These figures are intended to be illustrative, not limiting. Although the invention is generally described in the context of these embodiments, it should be understood that it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention to these particular embodiments.
Figure 1 shows an integrated bracket for mounting a relay.
Figure 2 shows a relay mounted on an integrated bracket.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Various embodiments of the invention provide an integrated bracket for mounting a relay and an add-on block.
In an embodiment, the present invention provides an integrated bracket for mounting a relay and an add-on block. The said bracket comprises a plurality of walls, the plurality of walls includes a back wall, the back wall has a plurality of interlocking means for receiving the relay, a plurality of side walls are connected to the back wall, the plurality of side walls have locking projections, the locking projections are provided on opposite ends for locking the relay and at least one locking projection for mounting the add-on block in close proximity to the relay and a plurality of screw-holes are provided on the said locking projections for fastening the relay and the add-on block.
Fig. 1 shows an integrated bracket for mounting a relay and an add-on block. The bracket 100 includes a plurality of walls, the plurality of walls including back wall 102 and a plurality of side walls 104, a plurality of interlocking means 108 and a plurality of screw-holes 110.
In accordance to an embodiment of the invention, plurality of walls includes back wall 102 and plurality of side walls 104.
In accordance to an embodiment of the invention, back wall 102 is provided with plurality of interlocking means 108 for receiving a relay 202. In an example of an embodiment interlocking means 108 is configured for fitly receiving the relay
In accordance to an embodiment of the invention, back wall 102 forms a skeleton framework of bracket 100.
In accordance to an embodiment of the invention, plurality of walls is provided with plurality of side walls 104.
In accordance to an embodiment of the invention, plurality of side walls 104 are provided with locking projections 106, each locking projections 106 are provided on opposite ends for locking relay 202. Another important function of locking projections 106 is mounting an add-on block close to relay 202
In accordance to an embodiment of the invention, plurality of screws holes 110 are provided on locking projections 106 for fastening relay 202 and the add-on block. In accordance to an embodiment of the invention, locking projections 106 is used for mounting the add-on block also. For example, at least one of locking projections 106 may extend vertically upwards to mount the add-on block in close proximity to relay 202 or may extend vertically downwards to mount the add-on block. Therefore, add-on block may be mounted in a direction of choice.
A method of mounting a relay and an add-on block on an integrated bracket comprises the steps of interlocking the relay with a plurality of interlocking means, fastening the relay, receiving the add-on block on one of the locking projections and fastening the add-on block on the locking projections.
Further, illustrating with an example of an embodiment, the step of interlocking the relay with a plurality of interlocking means includes, arresting relay 202 movements in a vertical direction by a plurality of interlocking means.
Subsequently, as illustrated above in step of fastening the relay by locking projections, wherein fastening the relay by locking projections facilitates in arresting the lateral displacement of relay 202.
In accordance to an embodiment of the invention, bracket 100 firmly fixes relay 202, thereby isolating relay 202 from other components. Due to isolation of relay 202 from other components like contactor or an add-on block, even the electric circuits associated with relay 202 will be isolated. As a result of which, short circuiting or any other accidents occurring thereto will be prevented.
In view of an embodiment of the invention, due to mounting the add-on block in close proximity to the relay the aforesaid arrangement facilitate in simultaneously actuating relay 202 contact and add-on block.
The foregoing description of the invention has been set merely to illustrate the invention and is not intended to be limiting. Since, modifications of the disclosed embodiments incorporating the spirit and substance of the invention may occur to person skilled in the art, the invention should be construed to include everything within the scope of appended claims.
Illustrated invention demonstrates the following advantages:
1. Separate mounting of relay at desired location and orientation.
2. The relay and the add-on block can be mounted close to each other; therefore we can define the bracket as an integrated bracket.
3. Mounting of the relay without the usage of mounting holes for the same.
4. Direction of bracket can be changed depending upon the position of mounting the relay; therefore even the relay position can be varied.
5. Actuating both relay and add-on block simultaneously.
6. Simple and robust design.
7. Bracket facilitates the isolation of the relay from other components.
