BACKGROUND
[0002] It is known to provide a fuel tank for a vehicle to hold fuel to be used by an engine of the vehicle. Modern fuel delivery systems for automotive vehicles with engines having fuel injectors have utilized an electrically driven fuel pump in the vehicle main fuel tank. Such fuel pumps are generally provided, on fuel pump flange, with one or more fuel feed valves or ports along with one or more auxiliary connections/components.
[0003] In certain vehicle types, the fuel tanks, and in turn the fuel pumps, are provided in rear bottom portions of the vehicle floor, with the top portion of the fuel pump being in close proximity of the vehicle floor.
[0004] Japanese Patent publication JP4945492B2 provides - nipple part protection structure 1 for the fuel pump 20 comprises: a fuel tank 10 having a fuel pump attachment opening formed thereon; the fuel pump 20 including a fixing flange 22 inserted into the fuel tank from the fuel pump attachment opening and fixed on the fuel pump attachment opening; the nipple part 30 provided at an upper part of the fuel pump and connecting the fuel pump and a fuel pipe 40 arranged at an upper part of the fuel tank; and a protection cover 50 including an input surface part 51a installed on a connection part 41 of the fuel pipe and the nipple part and receiving load from the upper part, and a leg part 53 transmitting load from the fixing flange to an outside fuel tank upper surface part. Ref to Fig. 1.
[0005] JP2015189418A discloses a fuel tank protection structure capable of suppressing an increase in weight and cost of a moving body such as a vehicle on which a fuel tank is mounted while suppressing melting of the fuel tank when a fire
occurs. It provides, between a fuel tank 3 and a rear side member 21, a foaming and swelling member 4 is arranged which is made from a material that foams and swells under heating. Thus, when a fire occurs at a vehicle 1 because of accident or the like, the foaming and swelling member 4 foams and swells under heating when a heat comes in between the fuel tank 3 and the rear side member 21, so that a portion between the fuel tank 3 and the rear side member 21 is blocked with the foaming and swelling member 4 that has swollen. Ref to Fig. 2.

[0024] The present invention will be described below in detail with reference to an embodiment as shown in the drawing.
[0025] The present invention provides an integrated firewall structure for a fuel pump flange to protect the fuel feed port from flames during the event of a fire.
[0026] Ref to Fig. 3, an integrated firewall (10) structure for a fuel pump flange (100) is shown in accordance with a first embodiment of the present invention. As per the first embodiment, the integrated firewall (10) structure for a fuel pump flange (100) comprising of a first wall (20), a second wall (40), which has some grooves so that the water drains through them. The first wall (20) and the second wall (40) are separated through a plurality of side walls (60, 70). The first wall (20) and the second wall (40) defining a plurality of intermediate flanges (80) between them to make compartments (90) between them.
[0027] The integrated firewall (10) structure for a fuel pump flange (100) the height (HI) of the first wall (20) is smaller than the height (H2) of the second wall (40) to give an upward and away direction to the flame from the fuel feed port (30) and the overall height of the integrated firewall (10) is greater than the height of the fuel feed port (30).
[0028] Further, the side walls (60 and 70) along with the intermediate flanges (80) are angularly aligned in such a way that in the case of fire, the side walls (60 & 70)
divert the flame away from the fuel feed port (30). The side wall (60) has an acute angle and the side wall (70) has an obtuse angle.
[0029] The compartment (90), defined by the first wall (20) and the second wall (40) defining a plurality of intermediate flanges (80) between them, have grooves (110) for water drainage.
[0030] The integrated firewall (10) structure for a fuel pump flange (100) is made up of plastic, resins, PVC or moldable polymers.
[0031] FIGS. 4 shows a side view and FIG. 5 shows a top view of the integrated firewall (10) formed in accordance with the first embodiment of the present invention.
[0032] FIGS. 6A and 6B show a second embodiment of the integrated firewall (602) in accordance with the present invention. As shown in FIGS. 6A and 6B, the integrated firewall (602) includes a first wall (604) proximal to a fuel feed port (606) and a second wall (608) formed parallel to and at a predefined distance from the first wall (604). The first wall (604) and the second wall (608) are connected at their first ends with each other in such a way that their first ends form ribs of the fuel feed port (606). Such formation of the ribs and replacement of formed ribs with original rib ensures that no additional load is formed or mounted on the fuel pump flange (600).
[0033] Further, the first wall (604) and the second wall (608) are connected at their second ends through a vertical wall (610) disposed between the first wall (604) and the second wall (608).
[0034] Further, the first wall (604) and the second wall (608) form an L-shape in such a way that at the first ends forming the ribs of the fuel feed port (606), an external side of the first wall (604) has an obtuse angle alignment with respect to the fuel feed port (606) and an external side of the second wall (608) has an acute angle alignment with respect to the fuel feed port (606). For the purpose of describing particular embodiments only and is not intended to be limiting of the disclosure, the external side of the first wall (604) is the side facing away from the
second wall (608), and similarly, the external side of the second wall (608) is the side facing away from the first wall (604).
[0035] The angular alignment of the first wall (604) and the second wall (608) is made based on the various studies conducted on ascertaining the flame pattern and the area which is mostly affected by the flame. Accordingly, such alignment of the first wall (604) and the second wall (608) ensures that no flame reaches to the fuel feed port (606).
[0036] Additionally, the first wall (604) and the second wall (608) are formed with ribs (612) at their external sides so as enhance the rigidity of the first wall (604) and the second wall (608). Further, the first wall (604) has plurality of slots (614) which does not allow any foreign matter to collect between the first and second walls (604, 608).
