FIELD OF INVENTION:-
The present invention is related to engine systems of an automotive vehicle. More particularly the present invention is related to front cover of an engine integrated with sub-systems of an engine.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION:-
Object of the present invention aims at developing an integrated front cover for common rail diesel engine of a vehicle.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION:-
Accordingly the invention provides An integrated front cover for common rail diesel engine of a vehicle comprises an oil pump housing formed in the said front cover by pressure die-casting for holding oil pump outer rotor and inner rotor; a water pump mounted integrally formed involute therein holding water pump body with water inlet pipe with gasket mounted in the front cover and nipple for oil cooler water supply; an oil cooler mounting flange integrally formed therein for holding an oil cooler and oil filter; an oil filling elbow integrated therein to hold oil filling elbow with O ring; an automatic tensioner mounting flange integrally formed therein to hold belt tensioner with securing bolt; an alternator mounting lug integrally formed therein to hold an alternator mounted over a bracket; and the said oil pump, water pump, tensioner and alternator axes parallel to the driving pulley shaft.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENT INVENTION:-
A front cover has been designed with the integration of the water pump, Oil Pump, Oil cooler & Filter, Oil filling cap, mounting provision for Automatic Tensioner and Alternator. The main purpose of the components integration is cost, weight and assembly time reduction apart from the design simplification. The present invention provides (i) simplified cooling lay-out for Oil cooler and EGR cooler by mounting Water Pump, Oil cooler and EGR cooler in the front cover; (ii) simplified Oil pressurizing, cooling and filtering system by the integration of Oil pump, Oil cooler and oil filter in the front cover; and (iii) simplified belt-drive system by the integration of the Water Pump, Automatic Belt tensioner and alternator in the front cover.
The present invention addresses the solution for problems in conventional designs of engines such as (i) conventional design of separate water pump, Oil pump is eliminated; (ii) elimination of Necessity of additional brackets for mounting Oil cooler & filter, Automatic Tensioner and Oil filling cap; (iii) design simplification; (iv) Cost, weight and assembly time reduction; (v) consistent water flow since the Water Pump involute is in the Pressure Die cast front cover; and (v) ease of removal of complete assembly is achieved.
Generally in conventional designs front cover of the engine would function only as a cover for the timing chain or timing belt drive system. In addition, conventional design would have all the components separately with a complex cooling system and Oil lubrication system.
Referring to figure 1, oil pump assembly integrated in the engine front cover comprises of cover plate mounting screws (1), cover plate (2), oil pump outer rotor (3), oil pump inner rotor (4), oil pump housing (5) and oil seal (6) integrated in the front cover of the engine. Referring to figure 2, water pump assembly integrated in the engine front cover comprises of water inlet mounting screw (7), water inlet pipe (8) mounted in front cover, gasket (9) for water inlet pipe, water pump body mounting screw (10), water pump body (11) mounted in the front cover, nipple (12) for oil cooler water supply and water pump involute housing (13) integrated in the front cover. Referring to figure 3, oil cooler and oil filter integrated in the engine front cover comprises of oil cooler mounting flange (14) integrated in the front cover, oil cooler (15), mounting stud (16) and oil filter (17). Referring to figure 4, oil filling system comprises of oil filling elbow (18) integrated in the engine front cover, '0' ring (19) and oil filling elbow (20). Referring to figure 5, automatic tensioner mounting comprises of automatic belt tensioner mounting flange (21), belt tensioner (22) and securing bolt (23). Referring to figure 6, alternator mounting integrated in the engine front cover comprises of alternator mounting lug (24), alternator (25), bracket for alternator (26) and mounting bolt (27). Referring to figure 7, simplified cooting system for oi) cooler and EGR cooler comprises of water pump inlet pipe (28), water pump (29), oil cooler water supply hose (30), oil cooler (31), oil filter (32), oil cooler water outlet hose (33) for EGR cooler water supply, EGR cooler (34) and EGR cooler water outlet hose (35).
An integrated front cover for common rail diesel engine of a vehicle comprises an oil pump housing formed in the said front cover by pressure die-casting for holding oil pump outer rotor and inner rotor. A water pump mounted integrally formed involute therein holding water pump body with water inlet pipe with gasket mounted in the front cover and nipple for oil cooler water supply. An oil cooler mounting flange integrally
formed therein for holding an oil cooler and oil filter. An oil filling elbow integrated therein to hold oil filling elbow with O ring. An automatic tensioner mounting flange integrally formed therein to hold belt tensioner with securing bolt; an alternator mounting lug integrally formed therein to hold an alternator mounted over a bracket. The said oil pump, water pump, tensioner and alternator axes parallel to the driving pulley shaft.
The said oil pump, Water pump, alternator and automatic tensioner means are at distant conveniently located in the said front cover so that there is no interference in functioning of each of components.
The said inner rotor and outer rotor oil pump held in the said front cover with cover plate and fasteners.
The said water pump inlet pipe flange connected to the opening said front cover, leading to inlet of said water pump, by fasteners.
WE CLAIM:-
1. An integrated front cover for common rail diesel engine of a vehicle comprises an oil pump housing formed in the said front cover by pressure die-casting for holding oil pump outer rotor and inner rotor; a water pump mounted integrally formed involute therein holding water pump body with water inlet pipe with gasket mounted in the front cover and nipple for oil coojer water supply; an oil cooler mounting flange integrally formed therein for holding an oil cooler and oil filter; an oil filling elbow integrated therein to hold oil filling elbow with O ring; an automatic tensioner mounting flange integrally formed therein to hold belt tensioner with securing bolt; an alternator mounting lug integrally formed therein to hold an alternator mounted over a bracket; and the said oil pump, water pump, tensioner and alternator axes parallel to the driving pulley shaft.
2. An integrated front cover for common rail diesel engine of a vehicle as claimed in claim 1 wherein the said oil pump, Water pump, alternator and automatic tensioner means are at distant conveniently located in the said front cover so that there is no interference in functioning of each of components.
3. An integrated front cover for common rail diesel engine of a vehicle as claimed in claims 1 and 2 wherein the said inner rotor and outer rotor oil pump held in the said front cover with cover plate and fasteners.
4. An integrated front cover for common rail diesel engine of a vehicle as claimed in claims 1 to 3 wherein the said water pump inlet pipe flange connected to the opening said front cover, leading to inlet of said water pump, by fasteners.
5. An integrated front cover for common rail diesel engine of a vehicle as claimed in claims 1 to 4 wherein the simplified cooling system for oil cooler and EGR cooler mounted in the said front cover comprises an inlet hose pipe of oil cooler connection is made to the said nipple of water; the outlet of oil cooler hose pipe connection made to inlet of EGR cooler and the outlet hose pipe is connected to outlet of EGR cooling.
