Specification

This invention is directed to an integrated mounting bracket for bowden cable
in motor vehicle
BACKGROUND/ PRIOR ART
Bowden cable includes an outer cable casing accommodating an inner cable
with a casing cap at both ends of the outer cable. The cable is required to be
mounted at a plurality of locations with the vehicle body panel and in some
cases with suspension parts for suitable alignment of the cable. Said mounting
is carried out with the help of brackets by securing the brackets with the body
panel with fasteners. For clamping multitude of brackets have been introduced
in the prior art. For the same reference may be made to fig 1 depicting two
types of brackets (A,B) with two different mountings on vehicle body so as to
support cable (C) at two different positions.
In some situation, required space is not available on the body panel for
mounting the cable particularly when the mountings are in close proximity to
each other. In some other situations, even if the space is available for the
mounting provision of two separate adjacent brackets leads to more weight,
cost and assembly time.
A patent (JP2000095092) in this regard in directed to a parking cable fixing
structure,.which comprises a bracket having a substantially L-section with two
hook structure at both ends to hold two cables, namely parking cable and
sensor harness. •
The present application has been proposed to address the issues of above
discussed known art (s).

OBJECTS OF' THE INVENTION
An object of this invention is to propose an integrated mounting bracket for
bowden cable in motor vehicle which obviates shortcomings of the prior arts.
Another object of this invention is to propose an integrated mounting bracket
for bowden cable in motor vehicle which results in saving of weight, cost and
assembly time.'
Further object of this invention is to propose an integrated mounting bracket
for bowden cable in motor vehicle which is reliable.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided an integrated mounting bracket
for bowden cable in motor vehicle comprises a member secured to a holder at
both ends, which includes a bigger holder and a smaller holder.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from
the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying
drawings of exemplary embodiments of invention and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows: Conventional mounting bracket for bowden cable in vehicle.
Fig. 2-4 shows: an integrated mounting bracket for bowden cable in motor
vehicle according to present invention.
-4-
DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
The instant invention makes a disclosure in respect of an integrated mounting
bracket for bowden cable in motor vehicle. The integrated mounting bracket as
illustrated in the fig 2 comprises a sheet metal member (1), both ends of which'
are integrated to a holder (2 and 3) for holding cable(C) as in fig 3. The sheet
metal member (1) can be an angular member (bent member) as best-seen in fig
4 according to one embodiment. Here width of the member varies from one end
to other with angular deviation at one place (4).
According to another embodiment, the sheet metal member can be flat and
straight member as shown in fig 2A. ^
The above are given as examples. Actually the profile (shape) of the sheet metal
member relies on layouting of cable and profile of the body panel.
The sheet metal member of lower thickness may be provided with atleast one
strengthening rib (5) to compensate the lower thickness.
Further the sheet metal member is integrated to an anti rotation feature
(6),which is having a hole (7) for securing the bracket with the body panel by
means of a fastener such as bolt (B).
The two holders (2, 3), each of which constitutes an open loop structure as best
seen in the figure 2. Said two holders include a smaller holder (2) and a bigger
holder (3). The smaller holder inner diameter is substantially closer to outer
diameter of the cable i.e. the inner diameter is little larger than the outer
diameter of the cable to accommodate the cable in the holder.
-5-
The bigger holder (3) diameter is larger than that of the smaller holder (2) as
shown in which the cable is free to move. Further open end of the bigger holder
is integrated to a curved member (8) so as to facilitate slipping in/out of the
outer cable in the course of assembly/disassembly.
A protector of soft flexible material may optionally be provided around the outer
cable in the bigger holder for sufficient grip. This avoids slippage of the cable
there from in the dynamic condition of vehicle due to tight fitment.
In accordance with the present invention, assembly is carried out as follows:
- Assembly of cable into smaller holder followed by staking (crimping)along
with complete assembly of cable with other child level parts, inspection
and testing.
- Mounting of bracket on the body panel by bolting.
- Assembling the cable into the bigger holder.
Last two steps can also interchange depending upon ease of assembly for
Assembly person.
The bracket of the instant invention has been devised in such a way that, cable
insertion and assembly into bracket can be done with ease. If both holders are
of small size, cable insertion and assembly is very difficult in case of curved
cable layout. Further, following cable assembly into the bracket, other
assembly, inspection and testing operations can be conducted smoothly on
straight cable condition in the current setup.
The integrated mounting bracket of the present invention is highly adopted in
case of curved layouting of the bowden cable.
Further two existing adjacent clamps can be substituted by the present
invention bracket which leads to saving in weight and cost consuming less
assembly time. The bracket is also quite useful where- limited mounting space
is available.

It is to be noted that the. present invention is susceptible to modifications,
adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments
employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within
the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the
following claims:-
