Abstract: The present subject matter described herein relates to an internal combustion engine having a clutch assembly (105) capable of withstanding shocks/fluctuations during engine operations. Particularly, said clutch assembly (105) comprises a first set of dampers (112) for dampening said shocks/fluctuations and prevent damage to the clutch assembly (105). The first set of dampers (112) are located in plurality of holes (106a) formed in a primary driven gear (108) of said clutch assembly (105), said primary driven gear (108) being located on a clutch housing (106) of said assembly (105). The first set of dampers (112) by virtue of their small omega shape restrain the rotation of said primary driven gear (108) and ensures that there is no unnecessary friction generated between them, thereby resulting in enhanced durability of said dampers. Moreover, since said dampers (112) are made of spring steel, it is ensured that they do not wear off due to use of contaminated engine oil.

An internal combustion engine (100) for a motor vehicle, said internal combustion engine comprising a clutch assembly (105), said clutch assembly including a clutch housing (106) and a primary driven gear (108), said primary driven gear (108) housing a first set of dampers (112) having small omega Ʊ shape causes said clutch housing (106) rotatably coupled to an intermediate shaft (110) to rotate on receiving rotary motion from a primary drive gear of said engine (100).
2. The internal combustion engine (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first set of dampers (112) is made of compressible elastic material
3. The internal combustion engine (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said small omega Ʊ shape of each damper of said first set of dampers (112) is obtained by forming each damper to have a pair of bean shaped portions (112a) and a middle portion (112am).
4. The internal combustion engine (100) as claimed in claim 4, wherein said pair of bean shaped portions (112a) has an open end (112ae) each.
5. The internal combustion engine (100) as claimed in claim 4, wherein said pair of bean shaped portions (112a) have their other ends connected to form said middle portion (112am) which is continuously formed with said pair of bean portions (112a).
6. The internal combustion engine (100) as claimed in claim 4 or claim 5, wherein open end (112ae) of each bean shaped portion (112am) faces a horizontal section (112as) of a middle portion (112am) of said damper (112).
7. The internal combustion engine (100) as claimed in claim 6, wherein said open end (112ae) of each bean shaped portion of the pair of bean shaped portions (112a) is kept at a gap (a) which is 3-5% of overall diameter of said damper.
8. The internal combustion engine (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first set of dampers (112) is located in a plurality of holes (106a) formed in said primary driven gear (108).
9. The internal combustion engine (100) as claimed in claim 1 or claim 8, wherein said primary driven gear (108) carrying said first set of dampers (112) is located on a plurality of lugs (106a) formed in said clutch housing (106).

The internal combustion engine (100) as claimed in claim 9, wherein each damper of said first set of dampers (112) has at least a portion including a middle portion (112am) seated on a central portion of each lug of said plurality of lugs (106a), wherein profile of said middle portion (112am) conforms to profile of said lug enabling snug fitment for torque/force transfer.
11. The internal combustion engine (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said primary driven gear (108) houses said first set of dampers (112) and a second set of dampers (114).
12. The internal combustion engine (100) as claimed in claim 11, wherein said second set of dampers (114) is rubber dampers.
13. The internal combustion engine (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein said primary driven gear (108) houses said first set of dampers (112) and a third set of dampers (114).
14. The internal combustion engine (100) as claimed in claim 13, wherein said third set of dampers (114) is coil spring dampers.
