Abstract: An LPG cylinder assembly for a motor vehicle comprising an LPG fuel cylinder provided with rear welded bracket with lug on one side and front welded bracket on another side, the said rear and front welded brackets being welded at different heights to facilitate the assembly of the LPG cylinder, with the lug head diameter being more than the size of the slotted hole of the rear bracket; the mating bracket front and bracket with slotted hole being welded on to the chassis of the said vehicle.
This invention relates to an LPG cylinder assembly for a motor cycle, scooter, a motor car or any other motor vehicle to which this invention is applicable
According to the known art, an LPG cylinder is fixed to the vehicle by means of clamping front and rear hinge straps, assembled on front and rear brackets by pin joint. These brackets are in turn welded on to the chassis of the vehicle. The LPG cylinder is also provided with mounting brackets on either side of the cylinder, which are bolted to the welded brackets on to the chassis.
The known art of installing an LPG cylinder on the body of the vehicle will thus be seen to be cumbersome and tedious. It is therefore an object of this invention to propose an LPG cylinder assembly which is simple in construction, yet effective in performance, less time consuming in assembling and requiring less fasteners in installation.
The LPG cylinder assembly for a motor vehicle, according to this invention, comprises an LPG fuel cylinder provided with rear welded bracket with lug on one side and front welded bracket on another side, the said rear and front welded brackets being welded at different heights to facilitate the assembly of the LPG cylinder, with the lug head diameter being more than the size of the slotted hole of the rear bracket; the mating bracket front and bracket with slotted hole being welded on to the chassis of the said vehicle.
This invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate by way of example, and not by way of limitation, one of its possible embodiments.
An LPG fuel cylinder (8) is provided with rear welded bracket (11) with lug (12) on one side and front welded bracket (13) on another side. The welded bracket rear (11) with lug(12) and welded bracket front(13) are welded at different heights to facilitate the assembly of the LPG cylinder(8). The lug head (12) diameter is more than the bracket rear (14) slotted hole (15) size. The mating bracket front (14) and bracket (16) with slotted hole (15) is welded on to the chassis (9).
Assembly of the LPG cylinder (8) is done by inserting the welded bracket rear (11) with lug (12) on to the bracket (14) with slotted hole (15) along the direction (b) and sliding it along the direction (a). The welded bracket front (13) of the LPG cylinder (8) is fastened onto the bracket front (17) of the chassis (9) using bolts (10) and nut. Tightening of the fastener (10) is done such that the lug(12) is under tension, preventing it from dislocation.
The LPG cylinder assembly proposed herein is applicable to any normal case irrespective of cylinder volume and type of multifunction valve (18).
It will be appreciated that various other embodiments of this invention are possible without departing from its scope and ambit.
We Claim:
1. An LPG cylinder assembly for a motor vehicle comprising an LPG fuel cylinder provided with rear welded bracket with lug on one side and front welded bracket on another side, the said rear and front welded brackets being welded at different heights to facilitate the assembly of the LPG cylinder, with the lug head diameter being more than the size of the slotted hole of the rear bracket; the mating bracket front and bracket with slotted hole being welded on to the chassis of the said vehicle.
2. An LPG cylinder assembly for a motor vehicle substantially as herein described and illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings.
3. A method of installing the LPG cylinder assembly on a motor vehicle as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein the welded rear bracket with lug is inserted on to the bracket with slotted hole along a first direction and slid along a second direction, the welded front bracket of the said cylinder being fastened on to the front bracket of the chassis by bolts and nuts; and the fastener is tightened such that the lug is under tension, preventing it from dislocation.
4. A method of installing an LPG cylinder assembly on a motor vehicle as claimed in Claim 3 substantially as herein described and illustrated.
