Abstract: An LPG fuel system for use in a two wheeler motor vehicle running on LPG, comprises a housing immovably locatable in the vehicle. A replaceable LPG cylinder is accommodated within the housing and securely fastened thereto. A pipeline connects the outlet of the cylinder to the engine of the vehicle. The said housing and engine are disposed in proximity to each other, whereby the housing is warmed by the heat radiated from the engine and the said cylinder, in turn, is warmed by absorption of heat from the housing, to prevent icing on the surface of the cylinder, at low temperatures.

Specification

This invention relates to an LPG fuel system for use in a two wheeler motor vehicle running on LPG.
Use of LPG as fuel for propulsion of automobiles offers advantages of low running costs, lower emissions, longer engine life and lower maintenance costs when compared to their gasoline/diesel counterparts• LPG as fuel has also been found to be non-carcinogenic, non-lead bearing. It has further been found that leaner mixtures of LPG can be combusted and higher compression ratios can be obtained due to the higher octane number and because the fuel is in gaseous form.
LPG is being commercially used in automobiles in Australia, Japan, USA, Holland, Italy, New Zealand among other countries.
Efforts are being made in India, which has a huge motor vehicle population, for use of LPG in automobiles, with adequate safeguards. The LPG commercially available in India is a mixture of butane and propane with traces. of other hydrocarbons.

This invention proposes an LPG fuel system comprising a housing accommodating a replaceable LPG cylinder, among other components, the housing itself being immovably locatable in the vehicle.
The cylinder, when depleted, can easily be replaced by a fresh cylinder*
The cylinder is rigidly attached to the housing, when located within it, so that-it is securely installed in place.
However, when LPG at high pressure expands suddenly (either from gaseous state or liquid state) the sudden expansion absorbs heat from the surroundings, resulting in heavy cooling. This cooling can condense and freeze moisture in the surrounding air, on the cylinder and vaporizer resulting in icing on the cylinder surface, at low temperatures.
This invention, therefore, proposes an LPG fuel system which prevents icing on the LPG cylinder, reduces the surface temperature of the housing, leading to cooler working condition.

Various features of the LPG system proposed herein wi11 be apparent from the following further description.
According to this invention, the LPG fuel system for use in a two wheeler motor vehicle running on LPG, comprises a housing immovably locatable in the vehicle; a replaceable LPG cylinder accommodated within the housing and securely fastened thereto; a pipeline connecting the outlet of the cylinder to the engine of the vehicle, the said housing and engine being disposed in proximity to each other, whereby the housing is warmed by the heat radiated from the engine and the said cylinder, in turn, is warmed by absorption of heat from the housing, to prevent icing on the surface of the cylinder, at low temperatures.
The LPG fuel system proposed herein will now be described with reference to the single Figure in the accompanying drawings, which illustrates, by way of example, and not by way of limitation, one of various possible embodiments of this invention.

The housing H is immovably locatable in the vehicle
An LPG cylinder C is accommodated within the housing H and securely fastened thereto.
A pipeline P connects the the outlet O of the cylinder C to the engine E of the vehicle, the said housing and the engine being disposed in proximity to each other, whereby the housing is warmed by the heat radiated from the engine and the said cylinder, in turn, -is warmed by absorption of heat from the housing, to prevent icing on the surface of the cylinder, at low temperatures.
Among various positions the housing can take with respect to the location of the engine, it is preferred to have the housing disposed above the engine, in proximity thereto.
The proximity of the housing with respect to the engine has the further advantage of use of a shorter length of the pipeline P than that which otherwise would have been necessary.

The terms and expressions in this specification are of description and not of limitation, there being no intention in the use of such terms and expressions of excluding any equivalents of the features illustrated and described, but it is understood that various other embodiments of the LPG fuel system proposed herein are possible without departing from the scope and ambit of this invention.

We Claim:
1. An LPG fuel system for use in a two wheeler
motor vehicle running on LPG, comprising
a housing immovably locatable in the vehicle; a replaceable LPG cylinder accommodated within the housing and securely fastened thereto; a pipeline connecting the outlet of the cylinder to the engine of the vehicle, the said housing and engine being disposed in proximity to each other, whereby the housing is warmed by the heat, radiated from the engine and the said cylinder, in turn, is warmed by absorption of heat from the housing, to prevent icing on the surface of the cylinder, at low temperatures.
2. An LPG fuel system for a two wheeler motor vehicle running on LPG, as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the housing and cylinder are disposed in proximity, one above the other.
3. An LPG fuel system for use in a two wheeler vehicle running on LPG, substantially as herein described with reference to, and as illustrated

in, the accompanying drawings.
