Detailed description of the embodiments
[0005] Figure 1 illustrates a schematic diagram of a lubrication circuit of diesel engine 10. The lubrication circuit of diesel engine 10 comprises an oil pump 12, and an oil filter 14 in flow communication with the oil pump 12 and adapted to receive lubrication oil that is delivered from the oil pump 12. A crank shaft 16 is secured to a plurality of pistons 18, wherein each of the plurality of pistons 18 is adapted to reciprocate within each cylinder 20 of the lubrication circuit of diesel engine 10. A cam shaft 22 is positioned proximate to the crank shaft 16 and adapted to control a flow of oil into each cylinder 20 of the lubrication circuit of diesel engine 10. An oil filter media 24 comprising a perforated tray and a filtering element positioned within the perforated tray, the oil filer media 24 positioned below the oil pump 12, the oil filter 14, the crank shaft 16, and the cam shaft 22, the oil filter media 24 adapted to receive lubrication oil that drips from the oil pump 12, the oil filter 14, the crank shaft 16, and the cam shaft 22, and filter the lubrication oil therein.

[0006] In addition, an oil filter media 24 for a lubrication circuit of a diesel engine 10 is described. The oil filter media 24 is positioned below an oil pump 12, an oil filter 14, a crank shaft 16, and a cam shaft 22, the oil filter media 24 adapted to receive lubrication oil that drips from the oil pump 12, the oil filter 14, the crank shaft 16, and the cam shaft 22, and filter the lubrication oil therein.

[0007] The lubrication circuit of diesel engine 10 comprises an oil sump 26 that houses lubrication oil therein. An oil pump 12 is in flow communication with the lubrication oil in the oil sump 26 and draws the lubrication oil from the oil sump 26, and delivers it downstream from the oil pump 12. An oil filter 14 is in flow communication with the oil pump 12 and receives pressurized lubrication oil that is supplied from the oil pump 12. The lubrication oil that is filtered by the oil filter 14 is delivered downstream to a high pressure pump 40 for lubricating the various components of the high pressure pump 40. From the high pressure pump 40, the lubrication oil is delivered to a cam shaft 22 from where it is used to lubricate a plurality of cams 42 that are secured to the engine, the engine cylinders 20, and the crank shaft 16 of the engine.

[0008] Once the lubrication oil has completely lubricated the oil pump 12, the oil filter 14, the crank shaft 16, the engine cylinders 20, the high pressure pump 40, and the cam shaft 22, the excess lubrication oil after flowing through all the components of the lubrication circuit of diesel engine 10 continuously drips down due to the force of gravity as fresh lubrication oil is circulated to each of the components of the high pressure oil pump 10 from the oil sump 26.

[0009] An oil filter media 24 is positioned below the oil pump 12, the oil filter 14, the crank shaft 16, the engine cylinders 20, the high pressure pump 40, the cam shaft 22, and the plurality of cams 42, and is adapted to collect lubrication oil that drips down from the oil pump 12, the oil filter 14, the crank shaft 16, the engine cylinders 20, the high pressure pump 40, the cam shaft 22, and the plurality of cams 42. Therefore, due to the presence of the oil filter media 24, the impure lubrication oil flowing through the oil pump 12, the oil filter 14, the crank shaft 16, the engine cylinders 20, the high pressure pump 40, the cam shaft 22, and the plurality of cams 42 does not drip down directly into the oil sump 26 thereby polluting the existing lubrication oil that is present within the oil sump 26.

[0010] The oil filter media 24 comprises a perforated tray and a filtering element that is positioned within the perforated tray. The oil filter media 24 is positioned below the oil pump 12, the oil filter 14, the crank shaft 16, the cam shaft 22, and the plurality of cams 42. In an exemplary embodiment, the oil filter media 24 is adapted to receive lubrication oil that drips from the oil pump 12, the oil filter 14, the crank shaft 16, the cam shaft 22, and the plurality of cams 42, and filter the lubrication oil therein. More specifically, once the lubrication oil is received by the oil filter media 24 from the oil pump 12, the oil filter 14, the crank shaft 16, the cam shaft 22, and the plurality of cams 42, the oil filter media 24 filters the lubrication oil before allowing the clean lubrication oil to flow into the oil sump 26. In the exemplary embodiment, the oil sump 26 is positioned below the oil filter media 24, wherein the oil sump 26 is adapted to receive lubrication oil that is filtered by the oil filter media 24.

[0011] Figure 2 illustrates a schematic diagram of the oil filter media 24 for the lubrication circuit of diesel engine 10 in one embodiment of the invention. In the exemplary embodiment, the oil filter media 24 comprises a flat shaped perforated tray 28, wherein the flat shaped perforated tray 28 comprises a plurality of perforations that filters lubrication oil that drips into the flat shaped perforated tray 28. The oil filter media 24 for the high pressure oil pump 10 comprises a sidewall 30 that extends circumferentially about the flat shaped perforated tray 28. The sidewall 30 of the oil filter media 24 is secured to a sidewall 32 of the oil sump 26 such that the flat shaped perforated tray 28 is positioned within the oil sump 26 to facilitate allowing lubrication oil to filter into the oil sump 26. The oil filter media 24 comprises a flat shaped portion 31 that is circumferentially secured to the sidewall 30 of the oil filter media 24. The flat shaped portion 31 of the oil filter media 24 is a rectangular shaped portion. Each of the corners of the flat shaped portion comprises a circular bore 50 that is adapted to receive a threaded fastener therein for securing the oil filter media 24 to the sidewall 32 of the oil sump 26. In the exemplary embodiment, the flat shaped portion 31 of the oil filter media 24 is positioned on the sidewall 32 of the oil sump 26 and secured thereto by means of the threaded fastener. Therein, all the four circular bores 50 are securely fastened to the sidewall 32 of the oil sump 26 by means of four threaded fasteners, to secure the oil filter media 24 to the oil sump 26. Therefore, all the oil that gets filtered by the oil filter media 24 flows into the oil sump 26, and gets collected in the oil sump 26.
[0012] A working of the oil filter media 24 for the lubrication circuit of diesel engine 10 is described as an example. Lubrication oil from the oil sump 26 is sucked into the oil pump 12 due to the suction pressure of the oil pump 12, and delivered to the oil filter 14. The lubrication oil is filtered in the oil filter 14 and supplied to the high pressure pump 40 for lubricating all the components of the high pressure pump 40. From the high pressure pump 40, the lubrication oil is supplied via the cam shaft 22 to the plurality of cams 42 that operate the inlet and outlet valves of the engine respectively. Once all the components of the lubrication circuit of diesel engine 10 have been sufficiently lubricated, the lubrication oil drips down due to gravity due to the continuous incoming stream of lubrication oil from the oil sump 26. The lubrication oil that drips down from the plurality of cams 42, the cam shaft 22, the engine cylinders 20, the crank shaft 16, the oil filter 14, and the oil pump 12 are collected in the oil filter media 24. The lubrication oil that is collected in the oil filter media 24 gets filtered by the oil filter media 24, and flows onto the oil sump 26. Therefore, only clean lubrication oil is collected in the oil sump 26, while the dust and impurities from the lubrication oil that is collected in the oil filter media 24 can be periodically removed. The clean lubrication oil that is collected in the oil sump 26 is recirculated back to the oil pump 12 and the various components of the lubrication circuit of diesel engine 10 for lubricating the various components of the lubrication circuit of diesel engine 10.

[0013] It must be understood that the embodiments explained above are only illustrative and do not limit the scope of the disclosure. Many modifications in the embodiments with regard to dimensions of various components are envisaged and form a part of this invention. The scope of the invention is only limited by the scope of the claims.
