“AN ORNAMENT AND A PROCESS OF PREPARING THE SAME”

SP3 Technologies LLP an Indian Company of Plot No.C1/B-6217, Road No.62, GIDC, Sachin, Surat-394230, Gujarat, India.

THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION PARTICULARLY DESCRIBES THE INVENTION AND THE MANNER IN WHICH THE INEVNTION HAS TO BE PERFORMED.
Field of the Invention:
[001] The present invention provides an ornament or a decorative article comprising a gemstone mounted on a support material. The present invention also relates to a process of preparation of the ornament or the decorative element comprising a gemstone mounted on a support material.

Background of the Invention:
[002] A first type of traditional ornament or traditional decorative article comprises a support material comprises an aperture, plurality of griping means surrounding the aperture and a gemstone located within the aperture and being held in place by the plurality of gripping means. The gripping means are preferably in the form of hooks. The first type of traditional ornament or traditional decorative article having the aforesaid construction suffers from a variety of disadvantages well known to a person skilled in the art, including but not limited to, a need to form a cavity, a need to provide plurality of gripping means surrounding the cavity. Formation of the cavity in the support material and providing plurality of the gripping means surrounding the cavity is labor intensive process and a time consuming process. Thus, a cost of the first type of traditional ornament or traditional decorative article is adversely affected. Additionally, the cavity and the gripping means block at least a part of the gemstone and thus, a true appearance of the gemstone is not visible. Providing the cavity in the support material and providing plurality of the gripping means surrounding the cavity also adversely affect an aesthetic appeal of the gemstone. Also, providing the cavity in the support material and providing plurality of the gripping means surrounding the cavity lead to a lot of wastage in the support material. As a cost of wastage of the support material is transferred to the end customer, the end customer is paying additional money for the wasted support material. Also, there are many instances wherein the gripping means breaks and hence, the gemstone is dislodged from the cavity and in some cases, the gemstone can be lost. Additionally, to form the hooks, the support material must possess sufficient plastic deformation properties, sufficient amount of ductile and must be capable of being shaped easily.

[003] Thus, making the first type of traditional ornament or traditional decorative article from support material with no plastic deformation properties, or from support material which is often hard and/or brittle, such as for example, ceramics, sapphire, silicon, composites (for example cermets) or even intermetallic alloys is a substantial technical difficulty.

[004] A second type of traditional ornament or traditional decorative article comprises adhesive material holding the gemstone to the support material. The second type of traditional ornament or traditional decorative article may be thus devoid of cavity and gripping means. However, adhesive bonding of the gemstone to the support material does not ensure long term retention of the gemstone. In most cases, a time period of retention of the gemstone on the support material in the second type of traditional ornament or traditional decorative article is less than a time period of retention of the gemstone on the support material in the first type of traditional ornament or traditional decorative article.

[005] Thus, there exists a need to address one or more of the aforesaid disadvantages in the existing the first type of traditional ornament or traditional decorative article and the second type of traditional ornament or traditional decorative article.
