Abstract: A high pressure fuel pump 10 is described. The high pressure fuel pump 10 comprises a housing 12, and a cam room 14 defined within the housing 12. A cross hole 16 is defined from the cam room 14 at its first end and extending through the housing 12 10 and culminating at an overpressure valve 18 at its opposite second end. The overpressure valve 18 comprises a U-shaped chamber 20, and a spring member 22, a first end of the spring member 22 adapted to abut against the U-shaped chamber 20. An opposite second end of the spring member 22 is adapted to abut against a valve cone 24. A bush 26 is positioned within the U-shaped chamber 20. A first end of the 15 bush 26 adapted to abut against the valve cone 24. An opposite second end of the bush 26 proximate to the U-shaped chamber 20.
Claims:1. A high pressure fuel pump (10), said high pressure fuel pump (10) comprising:
10 a housing (12);
a cam room (14) defined within said housing (12), said cam room (14) adapted
to store fuel therein; characterized in that
a cross hole (16) defined from the cam room (14) at its first end and extending
through said housing (12) and culminating at an overpressure valve (18) at its
15 opposite second end, said overpressure valve (18) comprising:
a U-shaped chamber (20);
a spring member (22), a first end of said spring member (22) adapted to abut
against an end of said U-shaped chamber (20), an opposite second end of said
spring member (22) adapted to abut against a first end of a valve cone (24),
20 wherein said valve cone (24) is positioned within said U-shaped chamber (20);
and
a bush (26) positioned within said U-shaped chamber (20), a first end of said
bush (26) adapted to abut against said valve cone (24), an opposite second end
of said bush (26) proximate to an opposite end of said U-shaped chamber (20).
2. The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 1 further
comprising a bore (28), a first end of the bore (28) in flow communication with
the U-shaped chamber (20), an opposite second end of the bore (28) in flow
communication with an inlet of a gear pump.
3. The high pressure fuel pump (10) in accordance with Claim 2 wherein a first
end of the cross hole (26) is in flow communication with the cam room (14),
an opposite second end of the cross hole (26) in flow communication 5 with said
valve cone (24), wherein pressurized fuel from the cam room (14) that flows
through the cross hole (26) causes the valve cone (24) to be displaced against
a resistive force of said spring member (22), thereby causing pressurized fuel
from the cam room (14) to flow through the cross hole (16) and into the inlet
10 of said gear pump via the bore (28) that is in flow communication with the inlet
