Angular Armrest

Abstract: As per the variations in occupant sizes, in some applications it is desirable that Armrest can be adjustable for more than one position, rather than stowed or vertical position only. The present innovation relates to adjustable armrest designed to rotate around a pivot axis consist two bevel gears engagements for the locking mechanism. The engagement and disengagement of the both the gears with the help of a compression spring push mechanism. The present invention relates to overcoming the issue of armrest position, especially in case of Seat Back reclining as armrest is directly connected to Seat Back Frame and consists of only two positions through an improved mechanism, which is not only cheaper and liter as compared to latch mechanisms but also provide adequate strength to occupant while sitting and can be installed easily with any kinds of frame.

COMPLETE SPECIFICATION:
This present innovation relates to the Arm rest support in a vehicle to allow the occupant to rest his arm on an Arm rest with the ease of angular adjustments as per the convenience.
The present invention promotes comfort for occupant while sitting or operating starring wheel by providing Armrest support which can be positioned angularly for the variations according to the body sizes of the occupants. In most of the vehicles Armrest often used either in vertical position (no use position, generally used during movement into or out of the seat) or in horizontal position (stowed position) used during sitting of occupant for comfort The stow position of armrest usually designed in a position which can meet maximum satisfactory comfort to a maximum range of occupant sizes, but still in many cases satisfactory level not achieved due to variations in occupant size. This can be eliminate by providing a range of armrest positions to reduce operator fatigue level due to movement of arms to different controls and unsupported elbow.
The present invention also overcome the issues of Armrest support during different reclining positions as stowed position of armrest continuously changed while reclining of seat back and on most of the relining positions, position of armrest is not desirable position. The present invention provides the improved design of Armrest position which rotate independently in respect to seat back frame.
Objectives of the Invention
The main objective of the present invention is to provide comfortable armrest support position for the occupants especially in case of Seat Back reclining. As we know in traditional arm rest support, armrest is directly mounted to Seat Back Frame and consists of only two positions, armrest satisfy only design position comfort for a particular size of manikin or occupant As we change the Seat back reclining angle and change the occupant size, Armrest comfort level also degraded. The improved design in present invention provides a wide range of rotating angle for all possible cases of seat back relining and occupants sizes.
To achieve the above objective, present invention provides an adjustable armrest support which rotates on a pivot axis at Seat Back frame and can stop on a desirable position on particular angular intervals. The mechanism consists of two bevel gears (Fixed and movable) who got engaged at the time of locking position. In case of disengagement, the movable gear moves in vertical direction respect to the fixed gear and provide smooth rotation for the armrest

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
Referring now to the drawings, there is depicted an Arm rest system embodying the concept of the present invention.
DESIGN-A
Figure 3 is showing the exploded view of arm rest assembly of design A, where 1 is bracket, 2 is hinge pin, 3 is stopper or guide pin, 4 is armrest body, 5 is c-clip; 6 is spring; 7 is male spur gear, 8 is c- clip, 9 is female spur gear, 10 is screw, 11 is knob and 12 is arm rest PU cover.
Bracket 1 is fixed with side bracket of back seat frame and hinge pin 2 & stopper or guide pin 3 is attached with bracket 1.
Arm rest body 4 is attached with hinge pin 2, it's locked by the c-clip 5 due to this Arm rest body 4 will not come out in hinge pin axis direction from its-original position and this arm rest body 4 is guided by stopper or guide pin 3, female spur gear 9 is attached with this arm rest body 4 by screws 10 and it's stop the freely rotation of arm rest body 4 about hinge pin 2 axis.
Male spur gear 7 is attached with the hinge pin 2 and spring 6 will be engaged on hinge pin 2 before attaching the Male spur gear 7, it's locked by the c-clip 8 due to this Male spur gear 7 will not come out by spring force and it rotation moment is rigid by D shape fitment with hinge pin 8.
Knob 11 is attached with Male spur gear 7 by snap fit option and PU cover 12 will cover the all mechanism for comfort point of view and for esthetic look.
Arm rest mechanism work when we push (press) the knob 11, due to this male spur gear 7 will slide inside and disengage from female spur gear 9 or arm rest body 4 and now we can manually rotate arm rest at desire angle and then release the knob push pressure, so male spur gear 7 will slide outside,and engage with female spur gear 9 by this engagement its hold the desire angle position of arm rest. And it's providing the support for occupants arm.
DESIGN-B

Figure 6 is showing the exploded view of arm rest assembly of design B, where 1A is bracket, 2A is hinge pin, 3A is stopper or guide pin, 4A is armrest body, 5 is c-clip, 6A is spring, 7A is male bevel gear, 9A is female bevel gear, 10A is screw, 11A is knob, 12A is arm rest PU cover and 13A is sliding pin.
Bracket 1A is fixed with side bracket of back seat frame and hinge pin 2A.& stopper or guide pin 3A is attached with bracket 1A. Sliding pin 13 is attached with the hinge pin 2A, sliding pin 13 have thread at the knob end and have color at the hinge pin 2A end which shown in figure 7. This color works as a stopper and provide the support for sliding pin 13 and its linked parts.
Arm rest body 4A is attached with hinge pin 2A, it's locked by the c-clip 5 due to this Arm rest body 4A will not come out in hinge pin axis direction from its original position and this arm rest body 4A is guided by stopper or guide pin 3A, female bevel gear 9A is attached with this arm rest body 4A by screws 10A and it's stop the freely rotation of arm rest body 4A about hinge pin 2 axis.
Male bevel gear 7A indirectly attached with the hinge pin 2A by sliding pin 13 and spring 6A will be engaged on sliding pin 13 before attaching the Male bevel gear 7A, it's locked by the knob 11A which will thread fit on sliding pin 13 due to this Male bevel gear 7A will not come out by spring force and it rotation moment is fixed by D shape fitment with sliding pin 13.
Knob 11A is attached with sliding pin 13 by thread fit option and PU cover 12A will cover the all mechanism for comfort point of view and for esthetic look.
Arm rest mechanism work when we push (press) the knob 11A, due to this male bevel gear 7A will slide inside and disengage from female bevel gear 9A or arm rest body 4A and now we can manually rotate arm rest at desire angle and then release the knob push pressure, so male bevel gear 7A will slide outside and engage with female spur gear 9A by spring force, By this engagement its hold the desire angle position of arm rest. And it's providing the support for occupants arm.

We claim:
1. An armrest support consists an upper support surface on which an occupant can rest his elbow for comfort to reduce fatigue level.
2. An armrest according to claim 1 can be rotate on a pivot axis fixed with the backrest support for the desirable position of the occupant.
3. An adjustable armrest according to claim 2 can be engaged & disengaged to the desirable position by pressing push button fixed at the pivot axis.
4. An adjustable armrest according to claim 2, which rotation can be restricted after a limited range through a stopper pin.
5. An adjustable armrest according to claim 1-4, which can be easily assembled with any kind of vehicle seat like Car Seat / Bus Seat / Train Seats even in resting chairs easily by fixing Armrest bracket to Seat back rest frame's bracket.
