DESC:FIELD
[0001] The present disclosure relates to blister packs used for storing pharmaceuticals. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to a foil for covering and sealing the blister packs. In particular, the present disclosure relates to a foil in the form of a laminate with anti-counterfeiting feature(s), especially hidden features for covering and sealing the blister packs.

BACKGROUND
[0002] Background description includes information that may be useful in understanding the present invention. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the present invention, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.
[0003] Blister packs area type of formed packets of plastic or aluminium, in which products are displayed and sold. A blister pack typically has one or more cavities or pockets of plastic or similar material or aluminium for holding the products, and sealed by a lidding sheet (laminate) or foil on which the name of the product, type of product, etc., and/or the company producing the product is printed on the outer side thereof. Blister packs are useful for protecting products against external factors, such as humidity and contamination for extended periods of time.
[0004] Blister packs are commonly used for packaging pharmaceutical tablets, capsules, and also non-pharmaceutical products such as special chewing gums such as nicotine gums, and the like. Typically, a strip of multiple cavities is created from rolls of flat sheet or film of thermoformed plastic or cold formed laminate, a pharmaceutical tablet or capsule, or a product like special chewing gum is placed in each cavity and the strip is closed or sealed with a lidding seal of aluminum foil or plastic to form a blister pack. Mainly the foil which is used to seal a blister pack is hard tempered and the cavities formed are semi-rigid making them sufficiently collapsible to enable a consumer to push out the tablets, or capsules, or products like special chewing gum by pressing each cavity on its outer side with the thumb while breaking the foil and expelling the product.
[0005] The foil used for sealing a blister pack is composed of multiple layers of different materials formed over each other to seal the foil. Conventionally, the layers include a lowermost heat seal layer, an aluminium film deposited over the heat seal layer, a layer of lacquer, or a layer of adhesive applied over the aluminium film and a biaxially oriented film deposited over the adhesive. Optionally, another layer of adhesive can be applied on the biaxially oriented film and a layer of paper can be deposited over the biaxially oriented film. Top portion of the foil or a paper can be printed with the name of the pharmaceutical product, type or class of pharmaceutical, composition of the product, name of the company producing the pharmaceutical, manufacturing date, expiry date, price, warning and other details. Such information foremost includes the trade name and logo for easily identifying and differentiating the genuine product manufactured by a specific company.
[0006] However, blister packs are susceptible to tampering and counterfeiting, as such conventional foils can be easily peeled off to replace the original tablets, or capsules in the plastic strip with fake ones, and thereafter a counterfeited foil can be used to seal the plastic strip. At times the counterfeited foils resemble the original foils so closely that it is difficult for a consumer to differentiate between the two.
[0007] There is therefore existing a need for a laminate which makes it more unlikely to be counterfeited, to make a blister pack tamper proof, and which enables a consumer to easily recognize whether a pharmaceutical tablet, or capsule in the blister pack is original or fake.

OBJECTS
[0008] Some of the objects of the present disclosure, but not limited to the same, which at least one embodiment herein satisfies are as listed herein below.
[0009] An object of the present disclosure is to provide an anti-counterfeiting laminate for sealing blister packs so as to make a blister pack tamper proof.
[0010] Another object of the present disclosure is to provide an anti-counterfeiting laminate with overt and/or covert and/or forensic features to make it impossible for a counterfeiter to create a similar foil.
[0011] Another object of the present disclosure is to provide an anti-counterfeiting laminate which can be easily differentiated from another fake foil, by a consumer.
[0012] Another object of the present disclosure is to provide an anti-counterfeiting laminate so as to enable a consumer to easily recognize whether blister pack containing a pharmaceutical tablet or capsule, or special chewing gum, or other products is original or fake.

Adhesive - 3.2 g/m2
PET film - 12 µm
Adhesive - 5 g/m2
Soft tempered Al foil - 20 µm and 25 µm
Heat seal layer of lacquer - 7 g/m2
[0092] The process parameters used were as follows:
Sealing Temperature - 220 degree C
Dwell time - 0.5 sec
Pressure - 500 kPa
Seal strength to PVdC of the base layer of blister pack - = 7 N/15 mm
[0093] The layer of paper was printed on the inner side with a desired hologram. The PET film was reverse printed with red colour. The layer of lacquer was coated on the soft tempered aluminium, reverse printed PET film was applied with the adhesive and laminated to the aluminium foil on the opposite side coated with lacquer and allowed to cure for one day, on the second day, the resultant PET/ Al foil/ HSL was laminated with paper printed on the inner side with a desired hologram with the application of adhesive and cured for about one to four days to provide anticounterfeiting laminate with reverse printed PET and hologram on the inner side of the paper but otherwise hidden from the outer side.
The anticounterfeiting laminate thus produced was sealed on the formed base laminate containing the product in the cavities with the process parameters as mentioned above. Only after pushing the product by pressing the cavity of the blister pack, rupturing and exposing the inner side of the laminate the hidden anticounterfeiting features such as coloured PET film and hologram on the paper can be seen by the consumer.
