Anti Termite Herbal Composition And Process For Preparation Thereof

Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition and preparation thereof, useful as pesticide or insecticide or termicide and/or pest/insect/termite repellant agent. More particularly, the present invention relates to a composition comprising a preparation or extract of Verbesina encelioides and at least one plant selected from Epipremnum pinnatum; Carthamus tinctorius; and Epipremnum aureum. The composition additionally comprising a preparation or extract of at least one plant selected from Syzygium aromaticum; Elettaria cardamomum; and Citrus limetta. Further, the present invention relates to a process for the preparing the composition as described above. The present invention advantageously provides a stable, eco-friendly and low cost anti-termite herbal composition.

Claims

1. A composition comprising a preparation or extract of Verbesina encelioides and at least one plant selected from Epipremnum pinnatum; Carthamus tinctorius; and Epipremnum aureum.

2. The composition as claimed in claim 1, additionally comprising a preparation or extract of at least one plant selected from Syzygium aromaticum; Elettaria cardamomum; and Citrus limetta.

3. The composition as claimed in claim 1 and 2, wherein the preparation or extract of plant is prepared by using any part of the plant.

4. The composition as claimed in claim 3, wherein the part of plant Verbesina encelioides is flowers and leaves, the part of plant Carthamus tinctorius is seeds, the part of plant Epipremnum aureum is leaves, the part of plant Syzygium aromaticum is flower buds, the part of plant Elettaria cardamomum is green seed pods, the part of plant Epipremnum pinnatum is leaves and roots, and the part of plant Citrus limetta is peel.

The composition as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the preparation or extract of plant Verbesina encelioides is in 2-5 wt%, plant Carthamus tinctorius is in 0.5-2 wt%, plant Epipremnum aureum is in 5-15 wt%, plant Syzygium aromaticum is in 0.25-1 wt%, plant Elettaria cardamomum is in 0.5-2 wt%, plant Epipremnum pinnatum is in 15-22 wt%, and plant Citrus limetta is in 20-30 wt% of the total composition.

The composition as claimed in any of the preceding claims, further comprising an excipient selected from the group comprising safflower oil, jojoba oil, camphor and a combination thereof; and a carrier solvent selected from the group comprising of n-hexane, acetone, petroleum ether, distilled water and a combination thereof.

7. The composition as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the composition is formulated in the form of powder, granules, powder or granules for reconstitution, suspension, solution, concentrate for dilution.

8. The composition as claimed in any of the preceding claims for use as a termicidal or a termite repellant agent.

9. A process for preparing the composition as claimed in claim 1, comprising: (i) preparing a preparation of plant Verbesina encelioides, and at least one of the plants selected from Carthamus tinctorius, Epipremnum aureum, and Epipremnum pinnatum to obtain different preparations; or (ii) preparing an extract of plant Verbesina encelioides, and at least one of the plant selected from Carthamus tinctorius, Epipremnum aureum, and Epipremnum pinnatum to obtain different extracts; and (iii) mixing the different preparations or the different extracts to obtain the composition.

10. The process as claimed in claim 9, further comprising adding a preparation or extract of a plant selected from Syzygium aromaticum; Elettaria cardamomum; and Citrus limetta.

11. The process as claimed in claim 9 and 10, wherein the preparation or extract of plant is prepared by using any part of the plant.

The process as claimed in claim 11, wherein the part of plant Verbesina encelioides is flowers and leaves, the part of plant Carthamus tinctorius is seeds, the part of plant Epipremnum aureum is leaves, the part of plant Syzygium aromaticum is flower buds, the part of plant Elettaria cardamomum is green seed pods, the part of plant Epipremnum pinnatum is leaves and roots, and the part of plant Citrus limetta is peel. The present invention advantageously provides a stable, eco-friendly and low cost anti-termite herbal composition. , Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a composition and process for preparation thereof, used as pesticide or insecticide or termicide and pest or insect or termite repellant agent. More particularly, the present invention relates to a composition comprising a preparation or extract of Verbesina encelioides and at least one plant selected from Epipremnum pinnatum; Carthamus tinctorius; and Epipremnum aureum. The composition additionally comprising a preparation or extract of at least one plant selected from Syzygium aromaticum; Elettaria cardamomum; and Citrus limetta. Further, the present invention relates to a process for preparing a composition as described above. The present invention advantageously provides a stable, eco-friendly and low cost anti-termite herbal composition. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Termites are eusocial insects and are among the most successful groups of insects on Earth, colonising most landmasses. On the basis of caste system, termites are grouped into six types: King, Queen, Secondary queen, Tertiary queen, Soldiers and Workers. Workers take part in the social life of the colony and have certain tasks to accomplish such as foraging, building or maintaining the nest or tending to the queen. Workers also feed the other members of the colony with substances derived from the digestion of plant material, either from the mouth or anus. Termites cause millions of dollars in damages to land, buildings and wooden structures. There are number of commercial anti-termite products in the market currently. Various chemicals have been used as anti-termite treatment, such as those derived from organic phosphor, azole, carbamate, naphthalene, and several pyrethroids, including pennethrin, cypennethrin, bifenthrin pyrethroid, fipronil, imidacloprid, chlorfenapyr, metallic salts such as mercuric chloride, copper chloride, zinc chloride, ferrous sulphate, arsenic trioxide, wood tar creosote, and coal creosote etc. All of the foregoing are known toxic chemicals, and as such are declining in use. Particularly these are synthetic termite repellents and are still not so much acceptable due to their unpleasant odour. They can damage wood, plastic and leads to soil and water contamination. Moreover, the chemical repellents are not safe for public health especially breathing/ asthmatic attack, they lack widespread acceptance owing to the incomplete protection provided, lack of persistence, cosmetic disadvantages. Very few less toxic alternatives exist with chemicals used for termite treatments. Accordingly, there is a substantial need for less toxic alternatives for preventing and treating termite infestation. Typically an anti-termite composition comprises a liquid or solid carrier material for the volatilizable/non-volatilizable components. Some anti-termite compositions advantageously employ volatilizable components which demonstrate synergistic effects in their anti-termite properties. These effects are rarely predictable, especially in multi-component compositions and compositions where other factors need to be taken into account, such as acceptability for surface application, olfactory response of a human user, colour and stability, among other factors. Owing to the lack of persistence, there is currently not an acceptable anti-termite composition available. Moreover, there is a need for safe, easy to apply, new and improved anti- termite composition leading protection from termites that causes serious substantial damage to residential and commercial buildings. In addition to non-toxic and non-irritating to humans, a further requirement of an anti-termite composition also need environmental acceptability. Keeping all these above facts in mind, a promising approach in the need of the day has been taken to find out a way for the preparation of natural, ecofriendly, and non-toxic biological composition. And last but not the least, the most important feature of herbal composition is its cost. It is therefore, efforts has been taken to prepare a natural (herbal) anti-termite composition which is nontoxic, ecofriendly and biodegradable (more quickly than their chemical counterparts) in the environment with no adverse effects, easy and safe to use with acceptable fragrance. Plant derived pesticides have advantage due to their selective toxicity and has property not to be bio-accumulate in the environment and food chain with shorter persistency. Even though herbal pesticides have an unbeaten track record, however they are still small part of the whole pesticide industry as large part is covered by chemical synthetic ones. The herbal pesticide market has not grown as much as synthetics due to the barriers of the cost involves in toxicology testing for new herbal product, cost effective supply of plant product, quality control, lack of stability and competition from other bio-control agents. Now the uses of synthetic pesticides are excluded in urban areas resulting in organic agriculture restricting synthetics and following herbal insect/pest control. WO2011027362A2 discloses a herbal anti-termite formulation consisting of one or more edible and or non-edible seed oil alone or infused with one or more herbs, by-products of essential oil and cashew industry and natural active substances of one or more plant parts, wherein the formulation specifically contains active extracts of Azadirachta indica, Pongamia pinnata and genus of Acorus, Allium, and Vitex, sesame oil infused with peel of genus Citrus, pitch (residual matter of essential oil industry), and cashew nut shell liquid (by product of cashew industry), along with suitable carrier solvents and emulsifiers for termite, fire-ants and wood decaying killing or control. WO2009093079A2 discloses the use of compositions comprising herbal preparations for the treatment and prevention of plant diseases caused by pests such as nematodes, fungi and insects. Said compositions comprise a preparation or extract of two or more plants selected from Pimpinella anisum, Peganum harmala, Myristica fragrans, Syzygium aromaticum and Rhazya stricta. Also provided are methods for the treatment or prevention of disease in plants which comprise applying said compositions; seeds, plant growth media, food wrapping and pesticide formulations comprising said compositions; and methods for the prevention of termite damage to buildings which comprise applying said compositions to buildings or to building materials. CN102499271A discloses a traditional Chinese-western medicine composition for killing termites. Termites are insects with large hazard, and cause serious harms and great economic losses to various departments and fields of national economy. The traditional termite killing drug is prepared by using chemical agents with high toxicity, and the termite killing effect is good while serious pollution is generated to the environment. According to the present invention, aconitum kusnezoffii, realgar, pinellia, grand torreya, fipronil and talcum powder are adopted as raw materials to prepare into the traditional Chinese-western medicine combined compound type termite control drug; the traditional Chinese-western medicine composition of the present invention has characteristics of safety, low toxicity, quick effect, complete termite killing, and the like; the medicine source is rich, the production method is simple and easy to perform, and the cost is low. Keeping health as well cost of the product in mind, it can be easily explained that V. encelioides is a noxious weed and are under the reach of common people along with climber (E. pinnatum) which is easily grown and widely spread as ornamental foliage. This value added herbal pesticides providing low cost affordable and sustainable solution to enhance productivity of small farmers and also may minimise the use of chemical pesticides. In developing country like India, this approach will be quite effective and useful for application on wide range of crops to protect them from pests. Therefore there is a great need to develop green and cheaper alternatives of chemical pesticides having fast activity and high stability. The present invention addresses such problems existing in the art in an economic and effective way. The present invention relates to an anti-termite or termite repellant composition which comprises of phyto-constituents extracted from the leaves and flowers of Verbesina encelioides and seeds of Carthamus tinctorius along with Epipremnum pinnatum and Epipremnum aureum. The present invention advantageously provides a stable, eco-friendly and low cost anti-termite herbal composition. Besides this composition, it has also been noticed that directly spray of Citrus limetta (Musambi) peel powder with V. Encelioides, E. pinnatum plant powder and C. tinctorius seed powder mixed with soil has strongly shown anti-termite activity but the efficiency and beauty of the composition of the present invention in terms of active compound is faster like chemical pesticides. OBJECTIVES OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention is to produce an anti-termite or termite repellant composition. It is an object of the present invention is to produce a termicidal or termite repellant composition which is economical, easy and safe to use, and is also effective in killing and controlling termites. It is another object of the present invention is to produce a termicidal or termite repellant composition which can be used to immobilize the composition and retains with its longer activity. A further object of the present composition is to produce a product which is environmentally safe, non-toxic and biodegradable in the environment with no adverse effects. It is still a further object of the present composition to provide various feasible compositions and process for the preparation thereof. A further object of this invention is to provide a product which can be used as a barrier to prevent termites of all kinds from entering agricultural land, homes or commercial buildings and wood structures. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In one aspect of the present invention, the present invention discloses a composition comprising a preparation or extract of Verbesina encelioides and at least one plant selected from Epipremnum pinnatum; Carthamus tinctorius; and Epipremnum aureum. In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the present invention additionally comprising a preparation or extract of at least one plant selected from Syzygium aromaticum; Elettaria cardamomum; and Citrus limetta. In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the preparation or extract of plant in the present composition is prepared by using any part of the plant. In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the part of plant Verbesina encelioides is flowers and leaves, the part of plant Carthamus tinctorius is seeds, the part of plant Epipremnum aureum is leaves, the part of plant Syzygium aromaticum is flower buds, the part of plant Elettaria cardamomum is green seed pods, the part of plant Epipremnum pinnatum is leaves and roots, and the part of plant Citrus limetta is peel. In another aspect of the present invention, the present invention discloses a process for preparing a composition comprising, preparing a preparation of plant Verbesina encelioides, and at least one of the plants selected from Carthamus tinctorius, Epipremnum aureum, and Epipremnum pinnatum to obtain different preparations; or preparing an extract of plant Verbesina encelioides, and at least one of the plant selected from Carthamus tinctorius, Epipremnum aureum, and Epipremnum pinnatum to obtain different extracts; and mixing the different preparations or the different extracts to obtain the composition. In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, the process further comprising adding a preparation or extract of a plant selected from Syzygium aromaticum; Elettaria cardamomum; and Citrus limetta. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS Fig. 1 depicts the assay of the present herbal anti-termite composition after 10 minutes; and Fig. 2 depicts the assay of the present herbal anti-termite composition after 120 minutes. DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The invention will now be described in detail in connection with certain preferred and optional embodiments, so that various aspects thereof may be more fully understood and appreciated. The preparation in the present application is powdered dried plant material, e.g., the dry seed or kernel, or fruit or part thereof, or bud, or flower, or leaves which has been ground to a powder. The plant material is ground to a powder to allow easy dispersal of the preparation and promote diffusion of the termicidal agent to the affected area. The extract in the present application is a substance made by extracting a part of a plant material, e.g., the seed or kernel, or fruit or part thereof, or bud, or flower, or leaves, often by using a solvent such organic solvents, inorganic solvents or water. The term ‘composition’ and ‘formulation’ in the specification of the present application can be used interchangeably. In one aspect of the present invention, the present invention discloses a composition comprising a preparation or extract of Verbesina encelioides and at least one plant selected from Epipremnum pinnatum; Carthamus tinctorius; and Epipremnum aureum. In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the present invention additionally comprising a preparation or extract of at least one plant selected from Syzygium aromaticum; Elettaria cardamomum; and Citrus limetta. In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the preparation or extract of plant in the present composition is prepared by using any part of the plant. In another aspect of the present invention, the present invention discloses a process for preparing a composition comprising, preparing a preparation of plant Verbesina encelioides, and at least one of the plants selected from Carthamus tinctorius, Epipremnum aureum, and Epipremnum pinnatum to obtain different preparations; or preparing an extract of plant Verbesina encelioides, and at least one of the plant selected from Carthamus tinctorius, Epipremnum aureum, and Epipremnum pinnatum to obtain different extracts; and mixing the different preparations or the different extracts to obtain the composition. In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, the process further comprising adding a preparation or extract of a plant selected from Syzygium aromaticum; Elettaria cardamomum; and Citrus limetta. In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, the preparation or extract of plant in the present composition is prepared by using any part of the plant. In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, the part of plant Verbesina encelioides is flowers and leaves, the part of plant Carthamus tinctorius is seeds, the part of plant Epipremnum aureum is leaves, the part of plant Syzygium aromaticum is flower buds, the part of plant Elettaria cardamomum is green seed pods, the part of plant Epipremnum pinnatum is leaves and roots, and the part of plant Citrus limetta is peel. In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, the preparation of plant Verbesina encelioides is in 2-5 wt%, plant Carthamus tinctorius is in 0.5-2 wt%, plant Epipremnum aureum is in 5-15 wt%, plant Syzygium aromaticum is in 0.25-1 wt%, plant Elettaria cardamomum is in 0.5-2 wt%, plant Epipremnum pinnatum is in 15-22 wt%, and plant Citrus limetta is in 20-30 wt% of the total composition. In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, the extract of plant Verbesina encelioides is in 2-5 wt%, plant Carthamus tinctorius is in 0.5-2 wt%, plant Epipremnum aureum is in 5-15 wt%, plant Syzygium aromaticum is in 0.25-1 wt%, plant Elettaria cardamomum is in 0.5-2 wt%, plant Epipremnum pinnatum is in 15-22 wt%, and plant Citrus limetta is in 20-30 wt% of the total composition. In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, further comprising an excipient selected from the group comprising safflower oil, jojoba oil, camphor and a combination thereof; and a carrier solvent selected from the group comprising of n-hexane, acetone, petroleum ether, distilled water and a combination thereof. In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, the composition is formulated in the form of powder, granules, powder or granules for reconstitution, suspension, solution, concentrate for dilution. In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, the composition is used as termicial and termite repellant agent. In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, the composition is an herbal composition. The effectiveness of the present herbal formulation has been compared with 1% monocrotophos chemical composition. 1. Active bio-components of particular Verbesina encelioides and Epipremnum pinnatum individually or in combination can also be used as green pesticides/insecticides.

2. Paint industry can also use the composition of the present invention for the preparation of antifungal/antitermite and other insect resistant wall paints/ varnishes/ wooden paints, etc. The herbal composition is easily soluble in polishes/oil paints used for furniture coatings, thus can be used to prevent termite attack in furniture as well.

3. Liquid active composition of the present invention can be sprayed (through sprinkler) in agricultural fields to improve the plantation without affecting soil fertility.

4. Presence of bioactive compounds (alkaloids and saponins) as an insecticidal/pesticidal activity in V. encelioides and E. pinnatum can also be used for other biological activity.

5. The herbal composition of the present invention can be used by the farmers as termite controller and as insect repeller for their agricultural fields or homes or wooden structures.

6. The herbal composition of the present invention can also be utilized with building raw materials to control termites in building foundations.

7. The formulation of the present invention, does not burn the skin of the termite to release such chemicals on degradation which destroys the fertility of the soil in comparison to the chemical composition. Some illustrative non-limiting examples of the present invention are described below. EXAMPLES Example 1 Preparation of an anti-termite or termite repellant herbal composition: The present herbal composition is designed either in a sequential manner or in any manner, and comprises of the following steps:

1. Prepared 730 mL acetone extract of Verbesina encelioides flowers and leaves, Carthamus tinctorius seeds, Epipremnum aureum leaves, Syzygium aromaticum and Elettaria cardamomum followed by addition of 22.4 mL Safflower oil;

2. Added 7 mL jojoba oil to the above abstract;

3. To the above mixture, added 20% Camphor (26.6 g camphor in 133 mL acetone) and stored at room temperature with continuous stirring;

4. Further 1L acetone extract of Epipremnum pinnatum leaves (66.5 g) and roots (106.4 g) were added in above mixture;

5. Added 1.5L n-hexane to the above extract;

6. Further added 266 mL aqueous extract of 26.6 g Epipremnum aureum aerial roots and stirred continuously;

7. Concentrated the above extract to 750 mL and added 200 mL n-Hexane solvent, 133.2 mL Safflower oil and 33 mL Jojoba oil to it. Store it at room temperature with continuous stirring;

8. Prepared sequential extract of 266 g Citrus limetta (musambi) peel with 1.3 L n-hexane followed by addition of 2L petroleum ether and 637 mL acetone. All the filtrates (n-hexane, petroleum ether and acetone extract of Citrus limetta (musambi) peel) were combined together and concentrated to 1.3 L. The Citrus limetta (musambi) extract prepared was added to the herbal composition prepared in step 7;

9. Finally the composition was stirred continuously for proper mixing of phyto-components and concentrated the final volume to 1 Litre. The prepared composition is ready to use and can be stored at room temperature with longer stability. S. No. Ingredients Quantity

1. Prepared 1.730 L acetone extract of Verbesina encelioides flowers (17.62 g) and leaves (13.6 g), Carthamus tinctorius seeds (7.315 g), Epipremnum aureum leaves (46.08 g), Epipremnum pinnatum leaves (66.5 g) and roots (106.4 g), Syzygium aromaticum (5.486 g) and Elettaria cardamomum (8.04 g); and 266 mL aqueous extract of 26.6 g Epipremnum aureum aerial roots, mixed them, followed by addition of 155.6 mL Safflower oil and 40 mL jojoba oil;

2. To the above mixture, added 20% Camphor (26.6 g camphor in 133 mL acetone) and stored at room temperature with continuous stirring followed by addition of 1.7L n-hexane;

3. Prepared sequential extract of 266 g Citrus limetta (musambi) peel with 1.3 L n-hexane followed by addition of 2L petroleum ether and 637 mL acetone. All the filtrates (n-hexane, petroleum ether and acetone extract of Citrus limetta (musambi) peel) were combined together and concentrated to 1.3 L. The Citrus limetta (musambi) extract prepared was added to the herbal composition prepared in step 3;

Advantages of the composition of the present invention:

1. A composition comprising a preparation or extract of Verbesina encelioides and at least one plant selected from Epipremnum pinnatum; Carthamus tinctorius; and Epipremnum aureum.

2. The composition as claimed in claim 1, additionally comprising a preparation or extract of at least one plant selected from Syzygium aromaticum; Elettaria cardamomum; and Citrus limetta.

3. The composition as claimed in claim 1 and 2, wherein the preparation or extract of plant is prepared by using any part of the plant.

4. The composition as claimed in claim 3, wherein the part of plant Verbesina encelioides is flowers and leaves, the part of plant Carthamus tinctorius is seeds, the part of plant Epipremnum aureum is leaves, the part of plant Syzygium aromaticum is flower buds, the part of plant Elettaria cardamomum is green seed pods, the part of plant Epipremnum pinnatum is leaves and roots, and the part of plant Citrus limetta is peel.

The composition as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the preparation or extract of plant Verbesina encelioides is in 2-5 wt%, plant Carthamus tinctorius is in 0.5-2 wt%, plant Epipremnum aureum is in 5-15 wt%, plant Syzygium aromaticum is in 0.25-1 wt%, plant Elettaria cardamomum is in 0.5-2 wt%, plant Epipremnum pinnatum is in 15-22 wt%, and plant Citrus limetta is in 20-30 wt% of the total composition.

6. The composition as claimed in any of the preceding claims, further comprising an excipient selected from the group comprising safflower oil, jojoba oil, camphor and a combination thereof; and a carrier solvent selected from the group comprising of n-hexane, acetone, petroleum ether, distilled water and a combination thereof.

7. The composition as claimed in any of the preceding claims, wherein the composition is formulated in the form of powder, granules, powder or granules for reconstitution, suspension, solution, concentrate for dilution.

8. The composition as claimed in any of the preceding claims for use as a termicidal or a termite repellant agent.

9. A process for preparing the composition as claimed in claim 1, comprising:
(i) preparing a preparation of plant Verbesina encelioides, and at least one of the plants selected from Carthamus tinctorius, Epipremnum aureum, and Epipremnum pinnatum to obtain different preparations; or
(ii) preparing an extract of plant Verbesina encelioides, and at least one of the plant selected from Carthamus tinctorius, Epipremnum aureum, and Epipremnum pinnatum to obtain different extracts; and
(iii) mixing the different preparations or the different extracts to obtain the composition.

10. The process as claimed in claim 9, further comprising adding a preparation or extract of a plant selected from Syzygium aromaticum; Elettaria cardamomum; and Citrus limetta.

11. The process as claimed in claim 9 and 10, wherein the preparation or extract of plant is prepared by using any part of the plant.

The process as claimed in claim 11, wherein the part of plant Verbesina encelioides is flowers and leaves, the part of plant Carthamus tinctorius is seeds, the part of plant Epipremnum aureum is leaves, the part of plant Syzygium aromaticum is flower buds, the part of plant Elettaria cardamomum is green seed pods, the part of plant Epipremnum pinnatum is leaves and roots, and the part of plant Citrus limetta is peel.

ANTI-TERMITE HERBAL COMPOSITION

The present invention relates to a composition and preparation thereof, useful as pesticide or insecticide or termicide and/or pest/insect/termite repellant agent. More particularly, the present invention relates to a composition comprising a preparation or extract of Verbesina encelioides and at least one plant selected from Epipremnum pinnatum; Carthamus tinctorius; and Epipremnum aureum. The composition additionally comprising a preparation or extract of at least one plant selected from Syzygium aromaticum; Elettaria cardamomum; and Citrus limetta. Further, the present invention relates to a process for the preparing the composition as described above. The present invention advantageously provides a stable, eco-friendly and low cost anti-termite herbal composition.
, Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a composition and process for preparation thereof, used as pesticide or insecticide or termicide and pest or insect or termite repellant agent. More particularly, the present invention relates to a composition comprising a preparation or extract of Verbesina encelioides and at least one plant selected from Epipremnum pinnatum; Carthamus tinctorius; and Epipremnum aureum. The composition additionally comprising a preparation or extract of at least one plant selected from Syzygium aromaticum; Elettaria cardamomum; and Citrus limetta. Further, the present invention relates to a process for preparing a composition as described above. The present invention advantageously provides a stable, eco-friendly and low cost anti-termite herbal composition.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Termites are eusocial insects and are among the most successful groups of insects on Earth, colonising most landmasses. On the basis of caste system, termites are grouped into six types: King, Queen, Secondary queen, Tertiary queen, Soldiers and Workers. Workers take part in the social life of the colony and have certain tasks to accomplish such as foraging, building or maintaining the nest or tending to the queen. Workers also feed the other members of the colony with substances derived from the digestion of plant material, either from the mouth or anus.
Termites cause millions of dollars in damages to land, buildings and wooden structures. There are number of commercial anti-termite products in the market currently. Various chemicals have been used as anti-termite treatment, such as those derived from organic phosphor, azole, carbamate, naphthalene, and several pyrethroids, including pennethrin, cypennethrin, bifenthrin pyrethroid, fipronil, imidacloprid, chlorfenapyr, metallic salts such as mercuric chloride, copper chloride, zinc chloride, ferrous sulphate, arsenic trioxide, wood tar creosote, and coal creosote etc. All of the foregoing are known toxic chemicals, and as such are declining in use. Particularly these are synthetic termite repellents and are still not so much acceptable due to their unpleasant odour. They can damage wood, plastic and leads to soil and water contamination. Moreover, the chemical repellents are not safe for public health especially breathing/ asthmatic attack, they lack widespread acceptance owing to the incomplete protection provided, lack of persistence, cosmetic disadvantages. Very few less toxic alternatives exist with chemicals used for termite treatments.
Accordingly, there is a substantial need for less toxic alternatives for preventing and treating termite infestation. Typically an anti-termite composition comprises a liquid or solid carrier material for the volatilizable/non-volatilizable components. Some anti-termite compositions advantageously employ volatilizable components which demonstrate synergistic effects in their anti-termite properties. These effects are rarely predictable, especially in multi-component compositions and compositions where other factors need to be taken into account, such as acceptability for surface application, olfactory response of a human user, colour and stability, among other factors. Owing to the lack of persistence, there is currently not an acceptable anti-termite composition available.
Moreover, there is a need for safe, easy to apply, new and improved anti- termite composition leading protection from termites that causes serious substantial damage to residential and commercial buildings. In addition to non-toxic and non-irritating to humans, a further requirement of an anti-termite composition also need environmental acceptability. Keeping all these above facts in mind, a promising approach in the need of the day has been taken to find out a way for the preparation of natural, ecofriendly, and non-toxic biological composition. And last but not the least, the most important feature of herbal composition is its cost. It is therefore, efforts has been taken to prepare a natural (herbal) anti-termite composition which is nontoxic, ecofriendly and biodegradable (more quickly than their chemical counterparts) in the environment with no adverse effects, easy and safe to use with acceptable fragrance.
Plant derived pesticides have advantage due to their selective toxicity and has property not to be bio-accumulate in the environment and food chain with shorter persistency. Even though herbal pesticides have an unbeaten track record, however they are still small part of the whole pesticide industry as large part is covered by chemical synthetic ones. The herbal pesticide market has not grown as much as synthetics due to the barriers of the cost involves in toxicology testing for new herbal product, cost effective supply of plant product, quality control, lack of stability and competition from other bio-control agents. Now the uses of synthetic pesticides are excluded in urban areas resulting in organic agriculture restricting synthetics and following herbal insect/pest control.
WO2011027362A2 discloses a herbal anti-termite formulation consisting of one or more edible and or non-edible seed oil alone or infused with one or more herbs, by-products of essential oil and cashew industry and natural active substances of one or more plant parts, wherein the formulation specifically contains active extracts of Azadirachta indica, Pongamia pinnata and genus of Acorus, Allium, and Vitex, sesame oil infused with peel of genus Citrus, pitch (residual matter of essential oil industry), and cashew nut shell liquid (by product of cashew industry), along with suitable carrier solvents and emulsifiers for termite, fire-ants and wood decaying killing or control.
WO2009093079A2 discloses the use of compositions comprising herbal preparations for the treatment and prevention of plant diseases caused by pests such as nematodes, fungi and insects. Said compositions comprise a preparation or extract of two or more plants selected from Pimpinella anisum, Peganum harmala, Myristica fragrans, Syzygium aromaticum and Rhazya stricta. Also provided are methods for the treatment or prevention of disease in plants which comprise applying said compositions; seeds, plant growth media, food wrapping and pesticide formulations comprising said compositions; and methods for the prevention of termite damage to buildings which comprise applying said compositions to buildings or to building materials.
CN102499271A discloses a traditional Chinese-western medicine composition for killing termites. Termites are insects with large hazard, and cause serious harms and great economic losses to various departments and fields of national economy. The traditional termite killing drug is prepared by using chemical agents with high toxicity, and the termite killing effect is good while serious pollution is generated to the environment. According to the present invention, aconitum kusnezoffii, realgar, pinellia, grand torreya, fipronil and talcum powder are adopted as raw materials to prepare into the traditional Chinese-western medicine combined compound type termite control drug; the traditional Chinese-western medicine composition of the present invention has characteristics of safety, low toxicity, quick effect, complete termite killing, and the like; the medicine source is rich, the production method is simple and easy to perform, and the cost is low.
Keeping health as well cost of the product in mind, it can be easily explained that V. encelioides is a noxious weed and are under the reach of common people along with climber (E. pinnatum) which is easily grown and widely spread as ornamental foliage. This value added herbal pesticides providing low cost affordable and sustainable solution to enhance productivity of small farmers and also may minimise the use of chemical pesticides. In developing country like India, this approach will be quite effective and useful for application on wide range of crops to protect them from pests. Therefore there is a great need to develop green and cheaper alternatives of chemical pesticides having fast activity and high stability. The present invention addresses such problems existing in the art in an economic and effective way.

The present invention relates to an anti-termite or termite repellant composition which comprises of phyto-constituents extracted from the leaves and flowers of Verbesina encelioides and seeds of Carthamus tinctorius along with Epipremnum pinnatum and Epipremnum aureum. The present invention advantageously provides a stable, eco-friendly and low cost anti-termite herbal composition.

Besides this composition, it has also been noticed that directly spray of Citrus limetta (Musambi) peel powder with V. Encelioides, E. pinnatum plant powder and C. tinctorius seed powder mixed with soil has strongly shown anti-termite activity but the efficiency and beauty of the composition of the present invention in terms of active compound is faster like chemical pesticides.

OBJECTIVES OF THE INVENTION
It is an object of the present invention is to produce an anti-termite or termite repellant composition.
It is an object of the present invention is to produce a termicidal or termite repellant composition which is economical, easy and safe to use, and is also effective in killing and controlling termites.
It is another object of the present invention is to produce a termicidal or termite repellant composition which can be used to immobilize the composition and retains with its longer activity.
A further object of the present composition is to produce a product which is environmentally safe, non-toxic and biodegradable in the environment with no adverse effects.
It is still a further object of the present composition to provide various feasible compositions and process for the preparation thereof.

A further object of this invention is to provide a product which can be used as a barrier to prevent termites of all kinds from entering agricultural land, homes or commercial buildings and wood structures.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
In one aspect of the present invention, the present invention discloses a composition comprising a preparation or extract of Verbesina encelioides and at least one plant selected from Epipremnum pinnatum; Carthamus tinctorius; and Epipremnum aureum.

In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the present invention additionally comprising a preparation or extract of at least one plant selected from Syzygium aromaticum; Elettaria cardamomum; and Citrus limetta.

In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the preparation or extract of plant in the present composition is prepared by using any part of the plant.

In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the part of plant Verbesina encelioides is flowers and leaves, the part of plant Carthamus tinctorius is seeds, the part of plant Epipremnum aureum is leaves, the part of plant Syzygium aromaticum is flower buds, the part of plant Elettaria cardamomum is green seed pods, the part of plant Epipremnum pinnatum is leaves and roots, and the part of plant Citrus limetta is peel.

In another aspect of the present invention, the present invention discloses a process for preparing a composition comprising, preparing a preparation of plant Verbesina encelioides, and at least one of the plants selected from Carthamus tinctorius, Epipremnum aureum, and Epipremnum pinnatum to obtain different preparations; or preparing an extract of plant Verbesina encelioides, and at least one of the plant selected from Carthamus tinctorius, Epipremnum aureum, and Epipremnum pinnatum to obtain different extracts; and mixing the different preparations or the different extracts to obtain the composition.

In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, the process further comprising adding a preparation or extract of a plant selected from Syzygium aromaticum; Elettaria cardamomum; and Citrus limetta.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The invention will now be described in detail in connection with certain preferred and optional embodiments, so that various aspects thereof may be more fully understood and appreciated.

The preparation in the present application is powdered dried plant material, e.g., the dry seed or kernel, or fruit or part thereof, or bud, or flower, or leaves which has been ground to a powder. The plant material is ground to a powder to allow easy dispersal of the preparation and promote diffusion of the termicidal agent to the affected area.

The extract in the present application is a substance made by extracting a part of a plant material, e.g., the seed or kernel, or fruit or part thereof, or bud, or flower, or leaves, often by using a solvent such organic solvents, inorganic solvents or water.

The term ‘composition’ and ‘formulation’ in the specification of the present application can be used interchangeably.

In one aspect of the present invention, the present invention discloses a composition comprising a preparation or extract of Verbesina encelioides and at least one plant selected from Epipremnum pinnatum; Carthamus tinctorius; and Epipremnum aureum.

In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the present invention additionally comprising a preparation or extract of at least one plant selected from Syzygium aromaticum; Elettaria cardamomum; and Citrus limetta.

In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the preparation or extract of plant in the present composition is prepared by using any part of the plant.

In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the part of plant Verbesina encelioides is flowers and leaves, the part of plant Carthamus tinctorius is seeds, the part of plant Epipremnum aureum is leaves, the part of plant Syzygium aromaticum is flower buds, the part of plant Elettaria cardamomum is green seed pods, the part of plant Epipremnum pinnatum is leaves and roots, and the part of plant Citrus limetta is peel.

In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the preparation of plant Verbesina encelioides is in 2-5 wt%, plant Carthamus tinctorius is in 0.5-2 wt%, plant Epipremnum aureum is in 5-15 wt%, plant Syzygium aromaticum is in 0.25-1 wt%, plant Elettaria cardamomum is in 0.5-2 wt%, plant Epipremnum pinnatum is in 15-22 wt%, and plant Citrus limetta is in 20-30 wt% of the total composition.

In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the extract of plant Verbesina encelioides is in 2-5 wt%, plant Carthamus tinctorius is in 0.5-2 wt%, plant Epipremnum aureum is in 5-15 wt%, plant Syzygium aromaticum is in 0.25-1 wt%, plant Elettaria cardamomum is in 0.5-2 wt%, plant Epipremnum pinnatum is in 15-22 wt%, and plant Citrus limetta is in 20-30 wt% of the total composition.

In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the present composition further comprising an excipient selected from the group comprising safflower oil, jojoba oil, camphor and a combination thereof; and a carrier solvent selected from the group comprising of n-hexane, acetone, petroleum ether, distilled water and a combination thereof.

In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the composition is formulated in the form of powder, granules, powder or granules for reconstitution, suspension, solution, concentrate for dilution.

In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the present composition is for use as a termicidal or a termite repellant agent.

In an embodiment of one aspect of the present invention, the present composition is an herbal composition.

In another aspect of the present invention, the present invention discloses a process for preparing a composition comprising, preparing a preparation of plant Verbesina encelioides, and at least one of the plants selected from Carthamus tinctorius, Epipremnum aureum, and Epipremnum pinnatum to obtain different preparations; or preparing an extract of plant Verbesina encelioides, and at least one of the plant selected from Carthamus tinctorius, Epipremnum aureum, and Epipremnum pinnatum to obtain different extracts; and mixing the different preparations or the different extracts to obtain the composition.

In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, the process further comprising adding a preparation or extract of a plant selected from Syzygium aromaticum; Elettaria cardamomum; and Citrus limetta.

In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, the preparation or extract of plant in the present composition is prepared by using any part of the plant.

In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, further comprising an excipient selected from the group comprising safflower oil, jojoba oil, camphor and a combination thereof; and a carrier solvent selected from the group comprising of n-hexane, acetone, petroleum ether, distilled water and a combination thereof.

In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, the composition is formulated in the form of powder, granules, powder or granules for reconstitution, suspension, solution, concentrate for dilution.

In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, the composition is used as termicial and termite repellant agent.

In an embodiment of another aspect of the present invention, the composition is an herbal composition.

The effectiveness of the present herbal formulation has been compared with 1% monocrotophos chemical composition. The results are given below:

Advantages of the composition of the present invention:

1. Active bio-components of particular Verbesina encelioides and Epipremnum pinnatum individually or in combination can also be used as green pesticides/insecticides.
2. Paint industry can also use the composition of the present invention for the preparation of antifungal/antitermite and other insect resistant wall paints/ varnishes/ wooden paints, etc. The herbal composition is easily soluble in polishes/oil paints used for furniture coatings, thus can be used to prevent termite attack in furniture as well.
3. Liquid active composition of the present invention can be sprayed (through sprinkler) in agricultural fields to improve the plantation without affecting soil fertility.
4. Presence of bioactive compounds (alkaloids and saponins) as an insecticidal/pesticidal activity in V. encelioides and E. pinnatum can also be used for other biological activity.
5. The herbal composition of the present invention can be used by the farmers as termite controller and as insect repeller for their agricultural fields or homes or wooden structures.
6. The herbal composition of the present invention can also be utilized with building raw materials to control termites in building foundations.
7. The formulation of the present invention, does not burn the skin of the termite to release such chemicals on degradation which destroys the fertility of the soil in comparison to the chemical composition.
Some illustrative non-limiting examples of the present invention are described below.

EXAMPLES
Example 1
Preparation of an anti-termite or termite repellant herbal composition:
The present herbal composition is designed either in a sequential manner or in any manner, and comprises of the following steps:
1. Prepared 730 mL acetone extract of Verbesina encelioides flowers and leaves, Carthamus tinctorius seeds, Epipremnum aureum leaves, Syzygium aromaticum and Elettaria cardamomum followed by addition of 22.4 mL Safflower oil;
2. Added 7 mL jojoba oil to the above abstract;
3. To the above mixture, added 20% Camphor (26.6 g camphor in 133 mL acetone) and stored at room temperature with continuous stirring;
4. Further 1L acetone extract of Epipremnum pinnatum leaves (66.5 g) and roots (106.4 g) were added in above mixture;
5. Added 1.5L n-hexane to the above extract;
6. Further added 266 mL aqueous extract of 26.6 g Epipremnum aureum aerial roots and stirred continuously;
7. Concentrated the above extract to 750 mL and added 200 mL n-Hexane solvent, 133.2 mL Safflower oil and 33 mL Jojoba oil to it. Store it at room temperature with continuous stirring;
8. Prepared sequential extract of 266 g Citrus limetta (musambi) peel with 1.3 L n-hexane followed by addition of 2L petroleum ether and 637 mL acetone. All the filtrates (n-hexane, petroleum ether and acetone extract of Citrus limetta (musambi) peel) were combined together and concentrated to 1.3 L. The Citrus limetta (musambi) extract prepared was added to the herbal composition prepared in step 7;
9. Finally the composition was stirred continuously for proper mixing of phyto-components and concentrated the final volume to 1 Litre. The prepared composition is ready to use and can be stored at room temperature with longer stability.

Preparation of an anti-termite or termite repellant herbal composition:
The present herbal composition is designed either in a sequential manner or in any manner, and comprises of the following steps:
1. Prepared 1.730 L acetone extract of Verbesina encelioides flowers (17.62 g) and leaves (13.6 g), Carthamus tinctorius seeds (7.315 g), Epipremnum aureum leaves (46.08 g), Epipremnum pinnatum leaves (66.5 g) and roots (106.4 g), Syzygium aromaticum (5.486 g) and Elettaria cardamomum (8.04 g); and 266 mL aqueous extract of 26.6 g Epipremnum aureum aerial roots, mixed them, followed by addition of 155.6 mL Safflower oil and 40 mL jojoba oil;
2. To the above mixture, added 20% Camphor (26.6 g camphor in 133 mL acetone) and stored at room temperature with continuous stirring followed by addition of 1.7L n-hexane;
3. Prepared sequential extract of 266 g Citrus limetta (musambi) peel with 1.3 L n-hexane followed by addition of 2L petroleum ether and 637 mL acetone. All the filtrates (n-hexane, petroleum ether and acetone extract of Citrus limetta (musambi) peel) were combined together and concentrated to 1.3 L. The Citrus limetta (musambi) extract prepared was added to the herbal composition prepared in step 3;
4. Finally the composition was stirred continuously for proper mixing of phyto-components and concentrated the final volume to 1 Litre. The prepared composition is ready to use and can be stored at room temperature with longer stability.
