Specification

Field of The Invention
The present invention relates to an anti-toppling system to be used in the load carrying vehicles and the method of its operation thereof, particularly in cranes. More particularly, it relates to an embodiment of the said anti-toppling system to be used in such cranes, which operates inthe condition of overloading.

Background of The Invention
Ensuring safety for the effective operation of a load carrying vehicles has always been a major concern. Safe operation of such vehicles, namely trucks, cargo-vans, tractors, cranes etc., carrying heavy load on diverse kind of transport situations, even including the critical conditions of overloading, is very important for the transport and logistic industry as well as for the public safety.
Though it is not recommended in general practice, but there are situations when such load carrying vehicles operate in overloaded condition, may be for saving time and effort the operators and other business interests.
Mobile cranes are such construction equipment, which are made to carry loads from one place to other and from one height to another, particularly at construction sites; wherein such operations of cranes are very much prone to unsafe movement conditions due to overloading.
Therefore, it is important for the crane to have such an advanced anti-toppling system that can easily be operated mechanically by the driver/operator of the vehicle so that any situation of toppling can be avoided and the safe operation or movement of the vehicle can be ensured.
CN201553560 U discusses about a gantry crane that comprises of toppling proof control system, which includes a lifting load detection sensor and a lifting load sway restrain module. In the toppling condition, the lifting load sway restrain module changes motion states of a trolley via a motion control device.
The granted patent US4732286 A relates to detection and control systems for detecting and preventing overloads affecting the support structure of a crane. It includes a sensor for detecting excessive torques about the base of the crane.
US2368268 A relates to an automatic safety counterbalancing mechanism for preventing toppling of cranes/apparatus and alike by freezing all apparatus controls having to do with movement of a load when a predetermined danger point leading to the toppling of the apparatus is reached, but permits manual nullification of frozen control for raising or lowering the load in order to stabilize the apparatus.
There are also some other systems which have facility to only dump hydraulic pressure by which the operator is not allow to overload the vehicle.
Therefore, there is a need for such a system that deactivates the hydraulic functions and applies brakes to avoid any accidents. In a condition, when the vehicle becomes unstable & toppling is suspected, the system of the present invention deactivates hydraulic functions and applies brakes to bring the vehicle to stand still position simultaneously, disallowing the operator to load further or run vehicle in unstable condition.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The main object of the present invention is to provide novel anti-toppling system to be used in a load carrying vehicle, particularly in cranes.
Another object of the present invention isto provide an improved method to ensure the crane stability and avoidance of toppling of the crane, mainly in the overloading conditions.
Another object of the present invention is to provide anti-toppling system and method thereof to avoid toppling in load carrying vehicles such as dump trucks, log carriers, cement mixer, cargo vans, tractor units, cranes etc.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved method to avoid toppling of cranes, particularly in overloading conditions, by applying brakes and deactivating hydraulic functions.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved method to avoid toppling in the cranes by using a switch that senses the overloading and sudden jerks in the cranes.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a warning in the unstable and overloaded condition of cranes.
It is an objective of the present invention that increases the safety at work place, easy handling, minimize the chances of accidents at work place and more reliable.
These and other objectives of the present invention will be apparent from the drawings and descriptions herein. Every object of the invention is attained by at least one embodiment of the invention. However, no embodiment necessarily meets every object set forth herein.

DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to an improved method to avoid toppling in load carrying vehicles such as dump trucks, log carriers, cement mixer, cargo vans, tractor units, cranes etc. by applying brakes and deactivating hydraulic functions under overloading condition and accordingly the safe working of the machine.
Generally, the improved method disclosed herein discusses about a system that basically works on the principle of crane stability. This system activates as soon as crane becomes unstable & toppling is suspected, it deactivates hydraulic functions & applies the brakes. The present system comprises of a bracket switch mounting 01, a rod 02, a bracket rod spot 03, a L-shape bracket 04, at least two hexagon nuts 05 & 13, at least three punched washers 06, 08 & 11, a MTG Block 07, a hexagonal head bolt 09, a spring lock washer 10, a hexagon head screw 12, a limit or micro switch 14, a bypass switch 15, a relay 16, a horn 17, a dump valve 18 and a break valve 19.
Figure1 depicts the perspective view of an improved method to avoid toppling in rear wheels of the cranes. According to an embodiment of said invention, switch 14 senses the overloading of crane and activates brakes and dumps the hydraulic pressure through which the crane stands in a standstill position and operator is not allowed to overload or move the crane.
Referring to figure 2, rod 02 is mounted at the rear wheel assembly of the crane, the bracket rod spot 03 and L-shaped bracket 04 is mounted on rod 02. The bracket rod spot 03 is mounted by using hexagonal nut 05, MTG block 07 is screwed with hexagonal head bolt 09 on L-shape bracket 04. Switch mounting bracket 01 is mounted with a hexagonal head screw 12 & a spring lock washer 10. As referred in figure 3, switch 14 is mounted at 01.
Referring to 3, in an unstable condition due to overload or sudden jerks, rear wheel lifts or tends to lift from the ground and consequently the reaction of wheels at the ground decreases and also relative distance between chassis and rear axle increases which is calibrated in such a way to detect instability well before crane crosses a threshold level. Said system senses this lift and immediately activates horn 17 to give audible warning to operator as an indication of overloading of crane and activates dump valve 18; through relay 16, switch 14 is activated to stop the hydraulic functions and activates brake valve 19 to stop the crane.
As both hydraulic functions & brake valves are activated and not allowing the crane to cross the threshold safe level, the crane stands in a standstill position and doesnot allow the operator to overload or run the crane in motion in an unstable condition, by this way, crane stability is ensured & toppling of the crane is avoided.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, when the crane is in safe load condition, the reaction of wheels at the ground and relative distance between chassis & rear axle is normal, the rear wheels are at ground and crane works in safe mode. As soon as the load crosses its specified limit and crane becomes unstable and the rear wheels tends to lift from the ground, the present system senses this lift and immediately applies brakes and deactivates the hydraulic functions by activating the switch while crane is in motion and ensures the safety of the crane and work place.
The advantages of the invention include low cost with respect to existing available systems, with further added advantage that it prevents machine loading in articulation without need of any extra sensor such as tilt sensor and articulation sensing to measure articulation angle of crane.
Further details of the present invention as disclosed herein and indicated in the drawings will be further elaborated in the complete specification, along with specific claims therein.
Although the invention has been described with reference to specific embodiments, this description is not meant to be construed in a limiting sense. Various modifications of the disclosed embodiments, as well as alternate embodiments of the invention, will become apparent to persons skilled in the art upon reference to the description of the invention. It is therefore contemplated that such modifications can be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the present invention as defined.
