FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to a method of presenting a digitally replicated version of print newspapers and publications over the web page, thereby giving a global presence to the newspaper / publications and its advertisers. The invention in particular relates to an apparatus and method for on-lnie publication of e-paper, in particular e-Newspaper.
The newspaper and publiblication industry has the challenge of reaching Global audience in a timely and cost effective manner. Althogh most of the newspapers are available online, the contents and layout are not exactly the same as in the print version. The ads go missing, photographs are not in place, contents are in a free-flow text and page navigation is not very user-firiendly. Newspaper subscribers, accustomed to the original look and feel of their favorite newspapers fail to fmd the authenticity and originality in news portels. Due to this factor, subscribers are not willing to pay for accessing the static news contents online.
Newspapers are looking for new revenue streams for sustainability and growth. Its main revenue source from advertisements is getting reduced to a considerable extent, as there is no way newspapers can present the advertisements in a more attractive way in its print version. There is hence a need to give a more dynamic look to the advertisements, which can be achieved by giving an on line presence to the advertisements.

Advertisements appearing in the print version are mostly location specific and may not be of interest to a subscriber accessing the online version of the newspaper from other part of the world. Hence, there is a need of a dynamic geographical location based display of advertisement.
In this fast pace of life, people hardly get time to read news contents of their choice. There are also several occasions when people look for an article released in the recent past and end up searching for the physical newspaper. There is hence a need to instantly access news (search mechanism), look for a specific article of earlier edition (archives) and / or read news in a more customized way.
The world wide web, or the web is a storehouse of information, the contents of which are expanding exponentially. The number of persons using the web is also increasing by leaps and bounds. A substantial portion of the infbrmatkm in the web is news, traditionally delivered primarily through prmted newspapers. Typical information means including other sources of news today is the web page'. Almost all leading print newspapers have their web pages in the web, where usually only a part of the news and information is available compared to the printed publication.
Therefore, though newspapers have their web presence, the contents and the lay-out is not the same as in the physical version. People living far away from their native place miss out reading their favorite newspaper in its typical form. Advertisements in the physical news paper of one location do not have any relevance if they are accessed on-line by users of other geographical location. Hence there is a need of a solution to provide an online presence of the physical newspaper-preferably a data base oriented application to store and instantly retrieve news pages.

An object of the present invention is to provide a method which facilitates to offer exact digital replica of the print version of the day's newspaper as an e-Newspaper to the world wide online subscriber leading to low-cost global distribution of newspaper and other print publications.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a method which automatically converts the available newspaper data to a format suitable for direct publication as a web page in an elaborate and attractive lay-out format. A further object of the invention is to provide a method which facilitates publishing e-Newspaper allowing the subscribers to view the pages in a customized way by increasing / decreasing the size of the text, directly visiting the article section continued in the inside pages thereby enabling the digitally replicated e-Newspaper to extend its reach both geographically and demographically.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a method which enables the publishers to display user-location specific advertisement (Dynamic Geo ads) through e-Newspaper thereby generating additional revenue for newspaper. An yet another object of the invention is to provide a method which enables display of SPLASH ADS via e-newspaper to the users in an animated user-friendly manner including search for content facilitates via content indexing and tagging features of the invention.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a method which enables categorization of article content of newspaper as text and / or image based, depending upon the fonts embedded in the source document, each object being converted into an image format and not necessarily into a text format. Still yet another object of the present invention is to provide a method in which construction of the published data makes use of the effective utility criteria for the web page to the maximum extent by facilitating users the contents t>ased on various attributes in a customized manner, with links of contents fi-om one page to another, instead of the uniformed structure of the physical printed newspaper,

thereby allowing options to the users for choosing specific article of their interest to be viewed.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION;
Accordingly there is provided a method for on-line publication of e-paper in particular e-Newspaper which comprises the steps of converting pre-press pages such as Quark express, page makers and or likes to high resolution PDFs with fonts and images embedded in it, enhancing the converted PDFs via third party components like Acrobat professional to make them compatible to e-Newspaper processing application, zoning every section of the page for segmented display of plurality of objects inckiding but not limited to artkie, photograph , advertisement, and displaying an image of the processed page as web page. The present invention is devebped on Microsoft platform. It works on ns 5.0 above and requires MS SQL server 2000 (SP3) as the backend data base.
The invention is a web-based applicatton (set of COM-f DLL and HTML, ASP, JS pages). For easy deployment and scalability all the applkatkin togic and presentation layer is embedded into COM-f. Applkatk)n can be installed by making use of the installer or by:-
• Creating database for the publkraticm.
• Simply creating the nS host => copying HTML/ASP/JS & Images => registration COM+ (or as DLL) -> application configuration (one time resource file generation with DB settings and presentation parameters.)
The inventton will now be described in details with the help of the accompanying drawing.
