BACKGROUND
[0002] Some of the cake makers non-professional bakers, home cooks, and
armature constantly seek perfection in the art of cake making and any other food
product. Cake makers desire to make perfect cakes that are not only delectable but
10 are visually appealing. Cake decoration needs much effort placed upon the talents
of the artist and his or her tools for the accomplishment of a highly decorated and
edible masterpiece.
[0003] Recently, tools known in the art can be used by the user to smoothen
the cake, the user after making the cake begins to smoothen the coating on a
15 surface of the cake, for example, the user begins to smoothen the coating on a top
surface and side surfaces of the cake, the coating may include ganache, coating,
fondant, buttercream, whip cream, frosting, royal coating, marzipan, sugar paste,
flower paste, petal paste, gum paste and the like. The user then examines the
relationship between the coating on the top surface with the side surface, which
20 may lead the user to further refine the coating covering the top and/or the side
surface. However, they find it difficult to spread whipping cream on the cake
using a palate knife and give it a proper finishing.
[0004] Therefore, there is a need in the art to provide an improved apparatus
for use in the decorative coating of cakes, which is easy to operate while
25 producing very satisfactory results.

[0031] In an embodiment, the apparatus 100 is in this example can be
5 implemented in the cake, however, the present disclosure is not limited to this
configuration but may be applied to other configurations such as any other
confection items and the like. The atleast one horizontal arm 102 and the at least
vertical arm 104 in the apparatus 100 can be arranged in perpendicular to each
other, and wherein the at least one horizontal arm 102 can be at a predefined angle
10 with the at least vertical arm 104, the predefined angle can be preferably 45
degree or any suitable angle based on the requirement of coating in the cake. The
at least one vertical arm 104 and at least one horizontal arm 102 can move with
respect to each other while maintaining the predefined angle between them.
[0032] In another embodiment, the at least one horizontal arm 102 can be of
15 7 inch or any suitable range, and at least one vertical arm 104 can be of 2.5 inch or
any suitable range. The apparatus 100 may be a hand-held device having the
handle 106 to hold the apparatus 100, the handle 106 can be moved along the
coating layer to generate a required ornamental design into the coating layer.
Coating may include thickening agents such as gelatin, egg whites, and the like,
20 the coating typically contains flavourings, such as vanilla extract, cocoa, colored
sprinkles, crushed nuts, and the like may be used on coating.
[0033] In another embodiment, the atleast one horizontal arm 102 may
include sharp edge at one side of the atleast one horizontal arm 102, the sharp
edge can be adapted to smoothen the coating layer on top surface of the cake, the
25 atleast one horizontal arm 102 can be adjusted based on the requirement to make
variable designs and shapes in the cake.
[0034] In another embodiment, the atleast one vertical arm 104 may include
one or more grooves 202 (also referred to as jackets 202, herein) as shown in FIG.
2B, on one side of the atleast one vertical arm 104, the one or more grooves 202
30 can be adapted to smoothen coating layer on side potion in the cake, the one or
more grooves 202 for the atleast one vertical arm 104 can be changed to provide
7
different designs on the sides. The atleast one vertical arm 104 can be twisted at
an angle of preferably 45 degree which can provide much smoother sides and the
quantity of the cream wastage on the sides can be reduced.
[0035] In an implementation, the apparatus 100 can be configured to
5 distribute the coating layer on the food product, the apparatus 100 may include at
least one horizontal arm 102 having the sharp edge at one side adapted to
smoothen the coating layer on the top surface of the food product, at least one
vertical arm 104 pivotally coupled to the at least one horizontal arm 104. The one
or more grooves 202 configured on one side of the at least one vertical arm 104,
10 the one or more grooves 202 adapted to smoothen the coating layer on the side
surface of the food product, the handle 106 coupled to one side of the at least one
horizontal arm 104 to hold the apparatus, wherein, the at least one horizontal arm
102 are held in position at the predefined angle with the at least vertical arm 104
to distribute the coating layer evenly on the top surface and side surface of the
15 food product.
[0036] For example, the cake can be placed in a movable cake support, the
coating layer may be supplied to the top surface and the side surface of the cake.
The at least one vertical arm 104 can contact the coating layer on the side surface
of the cake, and the at least one horizontal arm 102 can contact the coating layer
20 on the top surface of the cake, the height of the at least one horizontal arm 102 can
be adjusted and by moving the at least one vertical arm 104 and the at least one
horizontal arm 102 with respect to each other while maintaining the predefined
angle between them to spread the coating layer evenly on the top surface and side
surface of the cake in a manner that creates a decorated appearance on the cake.
25 The apparatus 100 is designed in a manner which can develop the skill of
finishing the cakes neatly
[0037] Thus, apparatus 100 with the atleast one horizontal arm 102 and the
at least one vertical arm 104 can be adjusted easily for various shapes and sizes of
cakes. Alternatively, designs imposed on the layer of coating may be modified by
30 addition of decoration elements, such as simulated flowers, edible paints, and the
8
like. The time required to decorate the cake, and human effort can be reduced,
perfect cakes can be made with visually appealing effect.
[0038] FIGs. 2A -2B illustrate exemplary view of shape configuration of
one or more grooves, in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure.
5 [0039] Referring to FIG. 2A, the shape configuration 200 of the apparatus
100 may include many of the same components introduced in FIG.1A above.
Those components that are unchanged in this embodiment retain their original
element number and are not reintroduced. Many different patterns and designs can
be recessed into the coating layer of coating with the use of one or more grooves
10 202 to impart a different pattern/design in the cake.
[0040] In an embodiment, the at least one vertical arm 104 and the at least
one horizontal arm 102 can be made of rigid material selected from a group
including plastic, metal and a combination thereof. The one or more grooves 202
in the at least one vertical arm may include variable patterns such as plane-shape
15 as shown in FIG. 2A, U-shape, zig-zag shape and the like. The one or more
grooves 202 can effectively scrape the side surfaces to impart differing shapes in
the cake, and can permit easy removal of ingredients from those surfaces by
scraping them along the edges of the cake.
[0041] The patterned one or more grooves 202 in the at least one vertical
20 arm 104 as shown in FIG. 2B can create textured designs on the sides of cakes.
For example, by moving the at least one vertical arm 104 and the at least one
horizontal arm 102 with respect to each other, the one or more grooves, for
example, of zig-zag shape can create decorated appearance on the side surfaces of
the cake by not ripping or pulling the coating layer off the surface of the cake.
25 [0042] It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the apparatus 100 of
the disclosure may be provided using some or all the mentioned features and
components without departing from the scope of the present disclosure. While
various embodiments of the present disclosure have been illustrated and described
herein, it will be clear that the disclosure is not limited to these embodiments only.
