Different objects, features and advantages of the invention will become more readily apparent, from reading to those skilled in the art from the following description illustrates a preferred approach thereof.
Here in this section, we describe the proposed approach based on a process and method for application of Bhagvad Gita principles for stress management.
In modern world, all of us experience stress at one point or the other. Stress is a kind of pressure experienced by an individual in physical, psychological and emotional realms in response to the situations that are perceived as difficult. Major causes of stress include anxiety of result/ outcome, anger arising due to unperceived outcome, lack of mental peace due to prevailing conditions such as financial situation, imbalances in life, overwhelming responsibilities in different realms of life, uncertainty of future, emotional distress, sorrow, jealousy, fear and dejection. All these psychological issues arise due to imbalances in innate characteristics.
The below verses of Bhagavad Gita, by presenting a detailed analysis of different mental situations inculcate in us a practical wisdom for daily life and enable us to effectively manage stress.
a) In order to avoid stress, we should lead a balanced life. According to verses 8-12 in chapter 13 of Bhagavad Gita, for a balanced life we should be humble, free from hypocrisy, abjure violence; forgiving; simple; have clean mind; self-controlled; non-attached towards material objects, family and worldly pleasures; non-egoistic; even minded in joy and distress; pursue spiritual and philosophical knowledge of the Absolute Truth.
Further according to verse 13-14 of chapter 12, we should be friendly, compassionate and free from malice towards all living beings, free from ego and non-attached to possessions, undeterred in happiness & distress and ever- forgiving. If we adhere to above core values, then we will be able to lead a balanced life and will always be contented, self-controlled and free from stress and anxiety.
b) We should not be overly concerned with the result outcomes since the same leads to stress and anxiety. Verse number 47 of Chapter 2 of Bhagavad Gita guides us in managing stress and anxiety arising out of result outcome by stating that ‘Although we have a right to perform our duties, yet we are not entitled to the fruits of our actions. We should perform our duty sincerely without being overly concerned about the results of action.’
c) Once we understand the above aspect of life from Bhagavad Gita, we will be more focussed in our approach towards any activity we undertake and less anxious towards outcome of results which will eventually mitigate our stress and anxiety.
d) To elaborate further, if we are not too much concerned about the fruits of our activities, we will always be balanced in our approach and satisfied with our life as stated in verse 20 of chapter 4 of Bhagavad Gita ‘One who is not attached to the fruits of action, is always contented and is not affected by external phenomenon.’
e) We should not be excessively attached to material things. Such attachment will give rise to fear of losing and ultimately lead to stress. According to verse 62-63 in chapter 2 of Bhagavad Gita it is essential to have limited attachment to object of senses like wealth, family, house, status, people, etc. otherwise we will be stuck in attachments and get caught in a vicious circle of desire, greed and anger leading to stress. With limited desires, we will be less anxious and stressful.
f) We should neither be overjoyed in good times nor feel perturbed in bad times, because these times are like seasons which will eventually pass as stated in verse 57 of chapter 2. According to verse 14 of chapter 2 of Bhagavad Gita, we must learn to accept our present situation. When we are not affected by success and failures and treat them equally, we are then in a much better position to focus on tasks at hand without worrying about the results.
g) Stress arising from grief and sorrow due to fear of death, can be managed by referring to verse 23 & 30 in chapter 2 of Bhagavad Gita which describes the soul as immortal and distinct from the body. Accordingly, we should never grieve for the living nor for the dead and learn to accept all circumstances as God's grace.
Further in difficult situations, many times we feel desperate and dejected thinking that evil forces will prevail despite our best efforts. However, we should always keep in mind verses 7-8 of chapter 4 of Bhagvada Gita which says that one should keep doing his duty in the best manner and there is always a bigger power that will protect the Truth.
ADVANTAGES OF THE INVENTION
1. Through understanding the principles of Bhagavad Gita and root cause of stress, not thinking about the outcomes, performing duties sincerely, remaining un-attached to materialistic things, believing in God, accepting the present situation as temporary and the fact that whatever happens, happens for the good, each one of us through Self-Management, Time-Management and Crisis- Management can easily manage stress better and lead a peaceful & optimistic life.
