ARRANGEMENT OF EVAPORATED FUEL COLLECTING DEVICE
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[OOl] The present invention relates to a two-wheeled vehicle incorporating an
evaporated fuel collecting device.
BACKGROUD OF INVENTION
[002] Apart from the exhaust emissions froin the two wheeled vehicles, evaporative emissions
need to be controlled and the same can be achieved by employing the evaporated fuel collecting
device. The said collecting device entraps the gaseous fuel vapours generated in the fuel tank and
supplies them to the carburettor.
[003] The performance of the evaporated fuel collecting device depends on the charging and
purging efficiency which in turn depend on the temperature to which evaporated fuel collecting
device is exposed to. The charging efficiency has an inverse relationship with the temperature
whilst the purging efficiency has a direct relationship with the temperature of the retention
, apparatus. The temperature of the evaporated fuel collecting device is dependent on factors such
as proximity to the internal combustion engine, exhaust pipe, direct exposure to the sunlight and
exposure towards the wind or airflow.
[004] The saddle type vehicle such as motorcycle does not have much space or room to
accommodate the evaporated fuel collecting device with great flexibility such that the layout and
arrangement of the evaporated fuel collecting device becomes restricted.
OBJECT OF MVENTION
(0051 The object of the present invention is to mount an evaporated fuel collecting device onto
a two wheeled vehicle to ensure safety of the user of the vehicle and reducing wear-tear of the
evaporation fuel collecting device, while managing space constraint within the vehicle and
avoiding disturbance of extreme boundaries of the vehicle.

, < evaporated fuel collecting device (1 13). At least one slide rail is provided in the first
compartment (143). The slide rail extends from the first opening (139) towards the
second opening (140), partially or completely, of the integrated assembly (134). The
evaporated fuel collecting device (1 13) is disposed inside the first compartment (143) by
sliding the guide rail on the slide rails such that second face (154) of the evaporated fuel
collecting device (1 13) approaches the second lid member (1 42) as the, e-vaporated fuel
collecting device (1 13) is slid into the first compartment (143). In an embodiment, the
evaporated fuel collecting device (1 13) gets locked up when the complete guide rail is
accommodated within the slide rail.
[0057] In accordance with the present invention described above, the evaporated fuel
collecting device (1 13) is disposed within the integrated assembly (134), and accordingly
the length of purge pipe, charge pipe and air intake pipe is shortened thereby increasing
the flexibility of layout of evaporated fuel collecting device.

(0051 The object of the present invention is to mount an evaporated fuel collecting device onto
a two wheeled vehicle to ensure safety of the user of the vehicle and reducing wear-tear of the
evaporation fuel collecting device, while managing space constraint within the vehicle and
avoiding disturbance of extreme boundaries of the vehicle.

member (160) has at least one provision (Not visible) to accommodate the anchor (161)
In an embodiment, the anchor accommodating member (1 60) accommodates the anchor
(161) through a snap fit arrangement.
[0053] As illustrated in figure 02, figure 03, and figure 04 and figure 06, the evaporated
fuel collecting device (1 13) is sposed in the. first compartment (143) of an integrated
assembly (134). The integrated assembly (134) has a second lid member (142) covering
the second opening (140) provided at the left side with respect to the astride position of a
vehicle (100) (as shown in figure 01) The second lid member (142) has a hole (165) to
facilitate connecting air intake pipe to. the air intake pipe provision (159) of the
evaporated fuel collecting device (1 13). The second lid member (142) on the side facing
the second opening (140) is provided with at least one U-shaped anchor (161). The Ushaped
anchor (161) has two leg units (162) & (1 63) and a loop unit (164). The loop unit
(164) of U-shaped anchor (161) is fixed to the second lid member (142). In an

(144) is integral part of the second compartment (144).
[0054] While disposing the evaporated fuel collecting device (113) in the first
compartment (143) of the integrated assembly (134), an air intake pipe is passed through
the opening (165) of second lid member (142) and then connected to the, air. intake pipe
provision (159) of evaporated fuel collecting device At least one of the leg unit from
among the leg units (162) & (163) of U-shaped anchor (161) is inserted into the
provision of anchor accommodating member (160) so as to mount the evaporated fuel
collecting device (1 13) into the first compartment (143) of the integrated assembly (134)..
In an embodiment, the leg units (162) and (163) of U-shaped anchor (161) are inserted
into anchor accommodating member (160). The second lid member (142) then removably
covers the second opening (140) of the integrated assembly (134) after the evaporated
he1 collecting device (1 13) is disposed into the first compartment (143). After the
14

integrated assembly (134) would minimize the effects of vibration and reduce rattling of
evaporated fuel collecting device (1 13).
[0056] In another embodiment, the evaporated fuel collecting device (1 13) is disposed in
the first compartment (143) of the integrated assembly (134) through at least one guide
, rail, provided on the at least one side face (155) of the evaporated fuel collecting device
(1 13). The guide rail extends along the length of evaporated fuel collecting device (1 13).
In an embodiment, at least one guide rail is integrated with the side face (155) of the
, < evaporated fuel collecting device (1 13).
