Abstract: An article locking device for a two wheeler is provided with a cable; a spring surrounding the cable; a hook attached to one end of the cable; and a plate attached to other end of the cable; wherein the above combination is housed within a casing.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001]This invention relates to "Article Locking to a Motorcycle" and more particularly to a motorcycle helmet lock for securing a helmet to a motorcycle.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002]In almost all the countries it is mandatory that the motorcycle or two wheeler rider wear a safety helmet. However, it is not always convenient for the motorcycle rider to carry his bulky helmet with him when he arrives his destination. Accordingly, many motorcycle riders merely strap their helmets to their motorcycles after dismounting before they proceed to a further destination by other means such as walking. The helmets strapped to the motorcycles can be readily removed from the motorcycle by unauthorized persons and therefore manysafety helmets are stolen from unattended motorcycles. Of course the replacement cost of a safety helmet is appreciable. Accordingly, there is a need to provide a means whereby a safety helmet may be locked to an unattended motorcycle.
[0003]Prior art uses chains with a lock to allow rider to secure the helmet to a part of the
motorcycle. However, these approaches require the rider to carry heavy and burdensome„ . chains and locks.
[0004]Anolher prior art approach is to use the commercially available cable type lock or plastic Fitment lock on the front guard or the pillion handle bar or front handle bar. These commercially available locks are generally of low quality and can easily be opened by a simple master key. Typically, when these commercially available locks are used as a separate device, it is observed that hanging of the helmet on a side of the vehicle creates wear and tear of the vehicle body as well as the helmet itself.
[0005]Therefore. the object of the present invention is to provide a factory fitment helmet lock for vehicle which overcomes the above said prior art problems.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0006]The present invention has been devised in view of the above difficulty and it is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a helmet lock as an integral part of the two wheeler.
a seat (106) attached to the upper rear portion of the vehicle frame, an engine unit (107) attached to the lower front section of the vehicle frame, a swing arm (108) attached to a lower rear section of the vehicle frame, suspended by a rear shock absorber (not shown) from the vehicle frame and a rear wheel attached to a rear end of swing arm (108). The intake system of the engine comprises of a fuel air metering device such as a carburettor (109), intake duct and an air cleaner. The exhaust system of the engine comprises of exhaust pipe and a muffler. The motorcycle is also provided with a side cover for covering a side section of the vehicle frame, a seat cover for covering a rear section of the vehicle frame below the seat, a front fender (110) for covering an upper part of the front wheel (103), and a rear fender (VI1) for covering an upper part of the rear wheel (112).
[0017]The drive from the engine'(!07) is transmitted from the engine to the driven wheel sprocket mounted on the rear wheel hub mounted on the rear wheel assembly.
[0018]The body frame of the motorcycle includes a head pipe/ steering pivot/pivot tube at the front end of the body frame. From the top portion of the head pipe one main tube extends downwards and obliquely backwards. Both sides of the lower portion of the main tube is provided with a bracket for rear engine mounting. The said main tube is substantially L shaped one when motorcycle is viewed from left side with front wheels on the left hand side and rear wheels on the right hand side.
[0019]From the rear portion where the main tube terminates, a pair of upper tubes extends backward and upward towards the rear side of the upper tubes with respect to the horizontal direction.
[0020]Referring to figure 2 and 3, a luggage lock (302) is generally provided on one side of the seat, placed below the seat. The luggage lock is typically a hook kind of a lock to hang articles. The said luggage lock (302) is also used as a seat lock. According to one of the embodiment of the present invention the helmet lock (201) is fitted on to the bottom side of the seat. The said helmet lock (201) comes as a factory fitted lock.
[0021]The helmet lock mechanism is provided in a casing (301) and the said casing is mounted to the seat by attaching means known in the prior arts. The said casing is placed in the opposite side to the luggage lock (302). Inside the casing (301) a cable (303) is provided, a spring (304) surrounds the cable to facilitate easy pull of the cable when locking the helmet and easy automatic pull back of cable after unlocking the helmet. A hook (305) of
any shape is attached to one end of the cable. The said hook (305) is the only part, visible to eye on one side, which is preferably opposite to luggage lock side. A stopping plate (306) is connected to other end of the cable (303). The said plate (306) since on the other end of the cable lies underneath the seat and is invisible to user under use or no use condition.
[0022]When the lock is in use, the hook attached to the cable passes through the helmet to the other side of pillion which has lock mounted on it.
[0023]When a rider wants to lock his helmet to the vehicle using the said mechanism, the hook which is seen on one side of the pillion is pulled to the required length, the pulling force required is smooth because of the spring available surrounding the cable underneath the seat. Once the said cable pulled to the required length it is passed through the helmet then
— connected to the luggage lock available at the other-end. This enables the helmet to sit on the seat, the said helmet doesn't move because of the spring present which keeps the cable tight.
[0024]The said lock mechanism can be used to lock any other article apart from helmet.
[0025]The invention being thus described; it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in . the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.
We Claim:
1. A two wheeler including an article locking device, said article locking device comprising: characterized in that.
said article locking device includes a cable (303), a spring (304) surrounding the cable (303), a hook (305) attached to one end of the cable (303), and a stopping plate (306) attached to other end of the cable (303), the spring surrounding the cable attached to the stopping plate at one end is housed within a casing (301), and wherein said casing (301) is placed underneath a seat (106).
