Articulated Pick And Carry Crane With Plurality Of Winches

Abstract: The present invention relates to an articulated pick and carry crane with winches (5), comprising a front body (1) and a rear body (8), joined through centre pivot pins. The steering of the crane is achieved through articulation of front body (1) and the rear body (8) at the centre pivot pins, through the operation of steering cylinders (9), that are actuated by way of pressing the control valve levers fitted in the operator cabin (3), for articulating the crane sideways. Further, the present invention comprises an additional auxiliary winch (4), which improves the workability of crane by enabling lowering of weight or load at high speed.

[001] The present invention relates to an articulated pick and carry crane. More particularly, the present invention discloses an articulated pick and carry crane with plurality of additional auxiliary winch, providing an improved operational workability and better stability.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[002] An articulated pick and carry crane is similar to a mobile crane designed to travel on public roads. The steering of the crane is achieved through articulation of front body and rear body through hydraulic cylinders.
[003] The normal function of a crane is to lift the load and place it in a new desired location. In an articulated pick and carry crane, the load to be lifted is carried to a distance and then positioned and placed. Articulated pick and carry cranes are designed to lift and lower the load with snatch/hook block with winch where the speed of lifting depends on the capacity of the hydraulic pump. The lowering speed is controlled hydraulically for placing the load on the surface without jerks and for safety reasons.
[004] In some applications, for example pile driving, load connected to a winch is brought down at a high speed to drive the pile into the ground with repeated up-down. This requires that the speed of downward motion is only partially controlled.
[005] Existing articulated pick and carry cranes can lift and bring down the load using a normal winch, which takes a lot of time. In other words, in the existing articulated pick and carry crane, the winch lifts the load by 4 falls/6 falls using rope and pulley fitted in the snatch/hook block, which results in the speed of winch for up and down motion being more.
[006] Therefore, a pick and carry crane with improved mechanism is required to overcome aforesaid limitations. The present invention provides one such articulated pick and carry crane designed with additional auxiliary winch, which improve the workability of crane while lowering the weight or load with high speed.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[007] The present invention relates to an articulated pick and carry crane with plurality of auxiliary winches, comprising a front body and a rear body, joined through centre pivot pins. The steering of the crane is achieved through articulation of front body and the rear body at the centre pivot pins, through the operation of steering cylinders that are actuated by way of pressing the control valve levers fitted inside the operator cabin for articulating the crane in a left or right direction. Further, the present invention comprises additional auxiliary winches which improves the workability of crane at lowering the weight with high speed.
OBJECTIVES OF THE INVENTION
[008] The primary objective of the present invention is to provide an articulated pick and carry crane with plurality of auxiliary winch to improve operational workability of crane.
[009] Another objective of the present invention is to provide a safe and stable base to the articulated pick and carry crane having auxiliary winch, using outriggers placed on front side of the crane.
[0010] A further objective of the present invention is to provide ease of access to the driver or operator by equipping the driver’s cabin with necessary crane controls.
[0011] Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, illustrations, and examples to disclose the aspects of present invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

It may be readily understood that certain aspects of the disclosed system and method can be arranged and combined in a wide variety of different configurations, all of which are contemplated herein.

In addition, descriptions of well-known functions and constructions are omitted for clarity and conciseness.

[0019] In the present invention, the articulated pick and carry crane with auxiliary winch (4) comprise mainly of a front body (1) and a rear body (8). Said front (1) and rear bodies (8) are joined through centre pivot pins. The steering of such crane is achieved through articulation of front body (1) and rear body (8) at the centre pivot pins, through the operation of steering cylinders (9), that are actuated by way of pressing control valve levers (not shown) fitted in the operator cabin (3), for articulating the crane onto left or right directions.
[0020] An engine with a gearbox (not shown) is mounted on the rear body of the crane, to power the crane for movement on the roads, as well as to drive the hydraulic pump (not shown) to operate the crane operations.
[0021] The power dissipated from engine to drive axles, fitted on the front body (1) and on the rear body for movement of crane, is done through an auxiliary gearbox and propeller shafts (not shown).
[0022] A counter weight (6) is mounted at the rear end of the rear body (8) to provide stability to crane when a load is lifted from the front of crane through fixed hooks or snatch blocks (11).
[0023] As per a preferred embodiment of present invention, the singular auxiliary winch (4) is mounted on the main boom (2). An auxiliary hook block (12) is also fastened to the auxiliary winch (4) via rope (13) that allows free fall movement of the hook block (12) and any load attached thereupon.
[0024] The telescopic main boom (2) is mounted through a pivot pin on the front body (1). The telescopic boom (2) includes boom sections and said boom sections can be extended/retracted through a boom extension cylinder (not shown) to accomplish the telescopic action. Two hydraulic cylinders are connected between the boom sections and front body (1) on each side of boom (2) that extends/retracts to allow the telescopic boom (2) to move up and down. Moreover, the main boom (2) is provided with hook blocks (11) to hang the load.
[0025] In another embodiment of present invention, there are at least two winches (4, 5) mounted on the main telescopic boom (2) which are luff by hydraulic cylinders (10). The winches (4, 5) may be laterally mounted i.e., back to back on the main boom (2).
[0026] The auxiliary winch (4) includes a drum on which the rope (13) is wound, and a hydraulic winch motor to rotate the drum in forward and reverse direction. Said hydraulic winch motor is driven with the help of the hydraulic pump (not shown). The winch motor rotates the winch drum so that the auxiliary hook or snatch block (12), coupled with the front end of the rope (13) on wire drum, moves up and down.
[0027] The driver cabin (3) is provided, preferably on the front body (1), having a seat for operator or driver and comprising operating controls for the crane, such as but not limited to, levers or handles, auxiliary winch (4) auxiliary winch (4) brake, steering wheel, hydraulic cylinder (10), steering cylinder (9).
[0028] The hydraulic control valve is fitted in the operator cabin (3). The operations of said hydraulic control valve consist of luffing, extension of main boom (2), winding and unwinding of the main winch (5), winding and unwinding the auxiliary winch (4), placing the left and right outriggers up and down.
[0029] Rear body of the crane includes, but not limited to, the engine, transmission (gearbox), auxiliary gearbox, a rear axle with suitable tires, fuel/hydraulic tanks, rear suspension, engine coverings, counter weights (6), bonnet (7) and outriggers.
[0030] The front body (1) of the crane includes, but not limited to, a front axle, tires, drive propeller shafts, outrigger cylinders and the cabin (3) with controls.
[0031] Further, the boom (2) along with luff or hydraulic cylinders (10), auxiliary winch (4), main winch (5), hook block (11), auxiliary hook block (12) are mounted on the front body (1). The boom (2) is fixed on the front body (1) through a pin joint. Furthermore, the luff cylinders (10) are connected with the boom (2) for upward and downward movement thereof, further enabling the boom sections to move upward or downward.
[0032] The crane as disclosed in the present invention is steered through the articulated front body (1) and rear body (8) through hydraulic steering cylinders (9). Further, the outriggers play very crucial role in cranes for lifting a maximum capacity load by providing maximum stability to the crane. Said outriggers provide a solid platform for the crane's safe operation and efficient use during working.
[0033] While the present invention has been described with reference to one or more preferred aspects, which aspects have been set forth in considerable detail for the purposes of making a complete disclosure of the invention, such aspects are merely exemplary and are not intended to be limiting or represent an exhaustive enumeration of all aspects of the invention. The scope of the invention, therefore, shall be defined solely by the following claims. Further, it will be apparent to those of skill in the art that numerous changes may be made in such details without departing from the principles of the invention.

We Claim:

1.An articulated pick and carry crane, comprising:
o a front body (1);
o a rear body (8), coupled to the front body (1) through pivot pins;
o a telescopic boom (2) having boom sections therein, mounted on the front body (1);
o an operator cabin (3) mounted on the front body (1);
o a pair of outriggers on either sides of crane, mounted on the front body (1);
o a main winch (5) fastened with hook blocks (11),
wherein,
the articulated pick and carry crane additionally comprises an auxiliary winch (4), mounted on the telescopic boom (2), fastened with an auxiliary hook block (12) via a rope (13).
2. The articulated pick and carry crane as claimed in claim 1, wherein the auxiliary winch (4) comprises a drum on which rope (13) is wound and a hydraulic winch motor that rotates the auxiliary winch (4) drum in forward and reverse direction.
3. The articulated pick and carry crane as claimed in claim 1, wherein the auxiliary winch (4) improves workability of crane by lowering the load at high speed.
4. The articulated pick and carry crane as claimed in claim 1, wherein the outriggers provide safe and stable base to the crane while operation.
5. The articulated pick and carry crane as claimed in claim 1, wherein hydraulic cylinders (9) are actuated by way of pressing control valves in the operator cabin (3) to actuate the main boom (2) and the sections therein.
6. The articulated pick and carry crane as claimed in claim 1, wherein steering cylinders (8) are actuated by way of pressing control valves in the operator cabin (3) to move the front (1) and rear portions (8) in the crane sideways.
7. The articulated pick and carry crane as claimed in claim 1, wherein the cabin (3) is equipped with the operating controls such as comprising hydraulic control valve, and steering wheel gives ease of access to the operator and responsible for the improved working of auxiliary winch (4).
8. The articulated pick and carry crane as claimed in claim 1, wherein the front body (1) of the crane comprises a front axle, pair of tires, plurality of drive propeller shafts, plurality of outrigger cylinders and the operator cabin (3).
9. The articulated pick and carry crane as claimed in claim 1, wherein the rear body (8) of the crane comprises an engine, gearbox, auxiliary gearbox, rear axle with a pair of tires, fuel tank, rear suspension, engine covering, counter weights (6), bonnet (7) and a pair of outriggers.
