Description:ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE PLATFORM TO IMPROVE SOCIALIZATION OUTCOMES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH AUTISM
Field of the Invention
[0001] The present invention relates to the field of artificial intelligence and more specifically to an AI platform designed to improve socialization outcomes for individuals with autism.
Background
[0002] The background description includes information that may be useful in understanding the present invention. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed invention, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.
[0003] Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder that affects approximately 1 in 54 children in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. One of the defining characteristics of ASD is social communication and interaction difficulties, which can manifest in various ways, such as a lack of social reciprocity, difficulty in understanding social cues, and challenges in forming and maintaining relationships.
[0004] These social deficits can have significant impacts on an individual's quality of life, affecting their academic and occupational success, mental health, and overall well-being. Despite the availability of various behavioral interventions, such as social skills training and applied behavior analysis, there remains a need for innovative interventions that can effectively improve socialization outcomes for individuals with ASD.
[0005] Technology-based interventions have shown promise in improving socialization outcomes for individuals with ASD, as they provide a safe and controlled environment for individuals to practice and receive feedback on social skills. Few of the patent documetns are listed below.
[0006] US11176444B2 (By: COGNOA) Disclosed herein are platforms, systems, devices, methods and media for model optimization and data analysis using machine learning. Input data can be processed and analyzed to identify relevant discriminating features, which can be modeled using a plurality of machine learning models. A computing device can be configured with one or more optimized models for categorizing input data.
[0007] EP3539033A1 (By: COGNOA) The methods and apparatus disclosed herein can evaluate a subject for a developmental condition or conditions and provide improved sensitivity and specificity for categorical determinations indicating the presence or absence of the developmental condition by isolating hard-to-screen cases as inconclusive. The methods and apparatus disclosed herein can be configured to be tunable to control the tradeoff between coverage and reliability and to adapt to different application settings and can further be specialized to handle different population groups.
[0008] US20190088366A1 (By: COGNOA) The methods and apparatus disclosed herein provide digital diagnostics and digital therapeutics to patients. The digital personalized medicine system uses digital data to assess or diagnose symptoms of a patient, and feedback from the patient response to treatment is considered to update the personalized therapeutic interventions. The methods and apparatus disclosed herein can also diagnose and treat cognitive function of a subject, with fewer questions, decreased amounts of time, and determine a plurality of behavioral, neurological or mental health disorders, and provide clinically acceptable sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis and treatment.
[0009] However, current technology-based interventions have limitations in their effectiveness and reach. Some interventions are expensive, require specialized equipment or training, and are not easily accessible to individuals living in rural or low-income areas. Thus, a further development in this area of technology is required.

[00023] The present invention relates to the field of artificial intelligence and more specifically to an AI platform designed to improve socialization outcomes for individuals with autism.
Figure 1 presents a flowchart that illustrates one potential implementation of a method for improving the results of socialisation for individuals. This strategy is consistent with some features of the disclosure that has been made at this time. At step 110, receiving data on the individual's sociability skills is an optional step that may be included in some implementations of the approach. In other words, this step may be included in some implementations of the technique but not in others. This can entail obtaining data from wearable gadgets, comments from carers or socialisation coaches, or remarks from video recordings. At stage 120 of the process, it is possible that the data will be analysed using an algorithm based on artificial intelligence in order to identify potential areas for improvement. This may involve being able to recognise patterns of behaviour that may lead to difficulties in interacting with other people.
At step 130, the method may, in some implementations, involve the establishment of personalised socialisation objectives for the individual based on the identified areas for improvement. This might be included in certain implementations of the technique. These goals may include, among other things, objectives relating to the initiation of discussions, the maintenance of eye contact, and the comprehension of social signs. The method may include providing feedback on the individual's progress towards the tailored socialisation objectives at step 140, as well as presenting the personalised socialisation goals to the individual and/or a carer via a user interface, such as a mobile application or an online portal. This may be done in order to ensure that the individual is making adequate progress towards the tailored socialisation objectives.
In some implementations of the method, it may include monitoring the individual's progress towards achieving the personalised socialisation goals and adjusting the goals as necessary based on the individual's progress. In other words, the method is flexible enough to be implemented in a variety of ways. In certain implementations of the strategy, tracking the individual's progress towards reaching the tailored socialisation objectives may not be included. The algorithm for artificial intelligence may, in certain implementations, make use of machine learning methods in order to study the data and enhance the accuracy with which it identifies areas that might require some tweaking. This could be done in order to improve the accuracy with which it identifies regions that might require some tweaking. The customised socialisation goals may be adapted to the individual in certain implementations based on factors such as the person's age, gender, cultural background, and the degree of difficulty they have in forming relationships with other people. These are just some of the factors that may be considered.
It may be necessary, in some implementations of the approach, to provide the person being assisted with interactive activities and exercises that are geared towards assisting them in accomplishing the individualised socialising objectives. These activities and exercises are designed to help the person in question achieve the objectives. In some implementations, the user interface may be used to deliver real-time feedback to the person about their progress towards the individualised socialising goals they have set for themselves. The person being cared for and/or the individual themselves may get this input. It may be necessary, in particular applications of the technique, to provide recommendations to the carer about ways that might aid the person in achieving the individualised socialisation goals that have been established for them. An algorithm for artificial intelligence may, in some implementations, incorporate data from multiple sources, such as the individual's social media activity and patterns of online communication, in order to provide a more comprehensive analysis of the individual's ability to interact socially with other people. This analysis may be used to make recommendations for improving the individual's ability to interact socially with others.
In accordance with different implementations of the current disclosure, a block diagram of an artificial intelligence platform 200 is illustrated in FIG. 2. This artificial intelligence platform 200 has been disassembled into its component pieces and is represented here in block diagram form. The artificial intelligence platform 200 may, in some embodiments, include a data collection module 210 for the purpose of receiving data on the individual's socialisation skills, an artificial intelligence algorithm module 220 for the purpose of processing the data 212 and identifying areas for improvement, and a goal generation module 230 for the purpose of generating personalised socialisation goals for the individual based on the areas for improvement that have been identified. It's possible that the data collecting module 210 won't be present in other implementations. A presentation module 240 may also be included in the artificial intelligence platform 200. This module's purpose is to present personalised socialisation goals to an individual and/or a carer by way of a user interface, such as a mobile application or web portal, and to provide feedback on the individual's or carer's progress towards the goals 232. Along with data 212 obtained from wearable devices, video recordings, and other feedback sources, the input from carers or socialisation coaches may also be incorporated in the data gathering module 210. It is essential to be able to recognise patterns of behaviour that may be a factor to problems associated with socialising. There is a chance that the module 230 for the generation of goals will also include objectives 232 for the initiating of conversations, the maintaining of eye contact, and the perception of social cues. In some implementations, the process includes monitoring the individual's progress towards reaching the customised socialising objectives and modifying the goals 232 as necessary depending on the individual's progression. In other implementations, the process does not include monitoring the individual's progress towards reaching the customised socialising objectives.
