, Description:Technical field of the Invention
The present invention relates generally to a system and method for diagnosis of an illness or disorder. More particularly the present invention relates to a system which uses a mobile application with artificial intelligence technology which can be used to predict the presence of conditions which lead to rapid progression of neurodevelopmental disorders.
Background of the invention
Neurodevelopmental disorders are a group of disorders in which the development of the central nervous system of an individual is disturbed, which can lead to brain dysfunction, and further manifest as neuropsychiatric problems or impaired motor function, learning, language or non-verbal communication. One such disorder which is commonly seen in the children is Autism.
Autism is a complex neurobehavioral condition that includes impairments in social interaction and developmental language and communication skills combined with rigid, repetitive behaviours. The condition is also known as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), as it shows a wide range of symptoms. It covers a large spectrum of symptoms, skills, and levels of impairment. ASD ranges in severity from a handicap that somewhat limits an otherwise normal life to a devastating disability that may require institutional care.
When a child or any individual are suffering from such disorders, there are high chances that they might go undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, untreated or even undertreated, which puts the life of the child or the individual at risk. There are existing methods which have been used to diagnose the problem, but there are several problems which exist in those known methods of assessment and diagnosis of a mental disorder, which includes difficulty in diagnosis due to a lack of access to a sufficient facility, the total cost required for a diagnosis, the time involved in obtaining a diagnosis and differences in a subject's behaviour outside of routine conditions, such as differences in behaviour at home versus outside and many more.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is diagnosed mainly in children younger than 3 years of age, which is characterized by impaired social interaction, such as fail to respond to their name or to read facial expressions in others, engaging in repetitive movements such as rocking and twirling and many more. Children with autism have trouble communicating and also have a trouble in understanding what other people think and feel, which makes it difficult for them to express themselves either with words or through gestures, facial expressions, and touch.
If the ASD continues in an individual for a longer time, then it might lead to Parkinson’s disease (PD). Many studies have led to a conclusion that there are signs of Parkinson’s disease in the adults who are 40 years and older, having ASD condition. The symptoms include slow movement, resting tremors, rigidity, and postural instability in ASD individuals.
There are several other neural disorder with similar symptoms, but there are no methods available for early detection. In order to help the individuals with the physical and mental disability, there a need for a system and method which can help in early detection of the neural disorders.
